I have no suggestions on what the Cheneys should do in this situation, but I can tell you what I did.

I have a gay daughter and have been loving and accepting of her and her partner, but not of their lifestyle. We have made clear our opinions, but my wife and I do not make life uncomfortable for them because of our opinions.

When they announced that they were going to try and get pregnant, we sat them down and explained our position. We explained why we believed that children should have a mother and a father and told them that, should they go though with this, we would sue for custody of our grandchild. We assured them that living in the South that we had a better than even chance of winning.

Though they were not happy with our decision, they still visited and were welcomed and we have always been welcomed at their home. They thought of moving elsewhere but didn't like any of the places with more liberal laws. (A lesson in how liberalism ruins a place) It has now been eight years and still no babies.

And this goes along with the end of the USA thread.

LOTR actually promotes GOOD vs. EVIL. Not a specific religion.

Harry Pothead promotes EVIL vs EVIL... and the religion of witchcraft -- even using some real people as characters.

But because idiot parents let their idiot kids read them because "at least it gets them to read" crap, we have to suffer through the hypocracy. Toss the kid a Playboy and I'll be he'll read too.

Quote# 25899

If true Christians had the power in the U.S. there would be so fewer secular laws.

Since they are not, we have so many laws for so many things that shouldn't have to be, that it is almost insane!

Non-Christians can never understand the Lord's teaching of true freedom through obedience to His New Testament commandments. Non-Christians see obedience to His teaching as kind of miserable slavery. They do not see the true slavery of endless secular laws from the result of a society in rebellion against the Lord.

Quote# 25897

The entire script of "The Lion King" is a carefully orchestrated picture of a pagan society with animals as the actors. Everything from the king and his heir down to the witchdoctor is acted out in the panorama of idolatry and pagan bondages. The struggle between good and bad IS a classic occultic picture of black and white magic. Even the relationship of the king and his evil brother draws attention to the pagan suggestion that Jesusand Satan were brothers.

[Joseph Chambers discusses the opening sequence of "The Lion King" where newborn cub Simba is shown off to the animals by Rafiki the baboon at the top of Pride Rock]

It's impossible to call this event anything but idolatrous. God's people are commanded "to worship the Lord thy God and Him only." They are even commanded to make no images to their God and not to use His namc in jest or in vain. To allow our children to glory in or be entertained by such a pagan ceremony is an abomination.

This new "Disney" phenomenon is another slick production of "raw idolatry" dressed up in the garb of entertainment for children. Apparently, they (Disney) believe it's okay to producc cntertainment for children that glorifies a baboon shaman and his witchdoctor methods and to promote thc worship of a sungod.

Quote# 25892

Don't speak too soon. We have "freedom of religion" yet people have been expelled for praying in school, we're not allowed to use the name of Jesus in public prayers. We have "freedom of speech" yet if we speak up against gay rights, we are accused of "hate crimes".
God has blessed America and we're a great country but we're turning on God. What makes you think that he will continue to bless a country who has started to curse him? Without God's protection our country COULD fall. We could loose our freedoms to outside invaders. Or (more likely) we could give up our freedoms.

Quote# 25898

[a mother whose attempt to ban Harry Potter from the library shelves of public schools failed]

At Tuesday’s hearing, Mallory argued in part that witchcraft is a religion practiced by some people and, therefore, the books should be banned because reading them in school violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

“I have a dream that God will be welcomed back in our schools again,” Mallory said. “I think we need him.”

Mallory said she has testimony from children who have read the Harry Potter books and have thought about acting out spells described in the books.

“They don’t want the Easter Bunny’s power,” Mallory said. “The children in our generation want Harry’s power, and they’re getting it.”

DeLay says that when, in the coming years, he is not fighting the indictment in Texas (he insists that he is not guilty) he will be building a conservative grass-roots equivalent of MoveOn.org. “God has spoken to me,” he said. “I listen to God, and what I’ve heard is that I’m supposed to devote myself to rebuilding the conservative base of the Republican Party, and I think we shouldn’t be underestimated.” He said that Republicans should spend their impending exile reminding themselves what they stand for. “I see this as a cleansing process, where you can return to your principles, which are order, justice, and freedom—the basic principles of the conservative movement. We have to redefine government based on conservative principles, we have to win the war against our culture, and we have to win the war on terror.”

Quote# 25886

"In case you do not remember, the inquisition was a period of time when the Roman church gave people the option to convert to catholicism or be tortured and killed.

The roman church is also responsible for the massacre of the Anabaptists in numerous locations - the Anabaptists would not convert to catholicism and would not stop distributing the Word of God.

As for the wars between the Native Americans and the settlers: The settlers wanted to live in peace. Aside from that, this war was not a religious war.

As a Christian, I believe you can worship however or whatever you want. Just be warned that you will face Jehovah and give an account.

On the other hand, non-Christians such as Catholics and Muslims would have any worship, other than their own, shut down and all people worshiping their false religions."

From a Yahoo news article on an attempt to ban the Harry Potter books from a school library:

At Tuesday's hearing, Mallory argued in part that witchcraft is a religion practiced by some people and, therefore, the [Harry Potter] books should be banned because reading them in school violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

"I have a dream that God will be welcomed back in our schools again," Mallory said. "I think we need him."

[My comment: Interesting juxtaposition. Clearly, separation of church and state only applies to other people's churches.]

Quote# 25864

I know i am exceedingly late in getting to this topic. but i believe i can move a mountain. God doesnt just do stuff the way you see it. you can tell a physical mountain to be moved and while your telling the mountian to be moved some high up business people are discussing how they can break down the exact mountian u just told God u want to be moved. I cant tell u how many times I have said to the sky on a day where there were no clouds in the sky "please give me some shade" and all of a sudden clouds come out of no where and it starts raining. or how many times i have told God on snowy days "God please let this snow storm skip over maryland and we barely saw snow that year.I even asked God this winter to allow it to be a little warmer than normal and if u all live in maryland u will remember how warm it was until december 27th. so to say that Jesus lied is a lie. because i have experienced it for myself, and i know for myself that it is real, and it is possible.

(we can not move mountains.)

I would disagree and say the reason we don't see people moving mountains is due to the extreme lack of faith.

in other words lack of people asking or even believing that mountains can be moved.

Quote# 25861

Does God evolve?

New ideas are just that: new ideas. Evolution is a new idea, but I don't think that it has been properly thought out. For example, consider God. God changes all the time, but does evolution apply to Him? The fact is that it does not.

"Wait," I hear you say "God doesn't reproduce, so evolution can't apply to Him." Well, that is interesting, isn't it? The one who created all things can't experience what He created. It's like God creating a rock that He can't lift: something doesn't make sense and it's not God.

What if God did reproduce, do you think that evolution would apply to Him then? Would His children gradually change so that they are nothing like Him? The problem with this is that you would then be saying that there are people more evolved than God. Does that make sense? No.

Fortunately for this nation most of our intellectualoids [sic] only pen silly columns, and don't govern our people or make our laws. If they did we would all be up the creek. Our libertarian gurus would likely have us all enjoying snuff films beamed into our homes 24/7; there would be heroin sold in Kmarts, child porn delivered with the junk mail, and terrorist manuals available in our school libraries.

The right to life movement is all about "intolerance" and a majority component in the movement is "Christian Morality". Christians should not tolerate Murder or Homosexuality. It’s bad enough that we have to live in a secular society. Being forced to deny our beliefs by presenting ourselves as Inclusive for the sake of diversity should also not be tolerated.

Whoa whoa whoa. Christianity is the belief that God created the earth and all of mankind and died for our sins (if you don't get why he had to die just message me) on the cross. HOW can you believe in Christ AND evolution at the same time? I don't get it! And why do all the Christians besides me want pie?

Quote# 25838

dear lord why do I get myself into these things?

I believe in Creation. I believe the world is to well made to be any sort of chance, I believe everything in the bible is correct, benefits society and does not disagree with itself in any location, the only way it would seem as such is if it is misinterpreted.

now that I have that out of the way

if anyone has any serious comments or questions post em :P otherwise I'm ignorin youz...lol

oh and Evolution is a religion, weather you choose to believe that or no, the only difference is it is government funded.
Cristianity used to be in our school systems, and I am glad that it was removed because of things it states in the bible that doing so goes against, but now they have Evolution in there, in children's textbooks as though it were real, pure stated fact, furthermore creation in general has been all but removed, even when Evolution can be proven wrong by something as simple as the spin of the earth; just because we float in space doesn't mean we don't encounter friction. If they were ever to take this into account, they would realize the earth could only be a few thousand years of age at most, since we gain about one second to our every year. this may not seem like much, but if you do the math (the earth spins about 1000mph) you know what :) the earth probably would have been flat... as well as completely devoid of life... *inserts imaginary picture of some random guy flying off the earth shouting WEEEEeeeee......*
yeah I'm done for now. but there's a whole lot more if you want to know it
