[Is the Bible god vengeful and jealous?}

Basically, it says that in the OT because God knew the NT would come along. The other god he is talking about is Jesus and God does NOT want you to put Jesus first.

Quote# 40727

Some nation's judicial system's like America's are becoming too laid back on capital punishment. Nowadays not even everyone thats charged with murder receives capital punishment., but yet God punishes and condemns those that kill others so are Government's to believe they are more forgiving then god?

If it were God's decision he'd have someone condemned to damnation instantly, but yet a political system allows its subordinates and citizen's to run free with the abominable slaughter of another human being?

in refute I'd like to say perhaps America would leave the actual punishment until the afterlife while they let a murderer live on until his judgment day.

Quote# 40744

As I've said before, Evolution is self-contradictory. On the one hand its proponents claim it is the origin of everything that exists, but on the other they acknowledge that it cannot account for the formation things which really exist such as human DNA. Evolution is quintessential occultism.

I find the proof of God's existence quite logical. Deconstruct anything, including the Theory of Evolution, and you find God at the beginning. If God is not there, then nothing is there. Your ability to understand God is not required, but if you seek the truth with all your heart, he will lead you to his Son Jesus Christ.

Quote# 40742

Matt dick said: Why should I, as a non-Christian, see your faith as the one true faith?

Simple Matt, because if Christianity were not true, truth would be without meaning. Christianity is the only faith that can consistently support the preconditions of intelligibility, such as truth, knowledge, logic, and reasoning.

Atomic chimp said: Ray every day you and your minions talk in absolutes concerning or connected to unsupported assertion you make.

Is that absolutely true??? That’s the problem, you talk in absolutes but don’t even realize it. The only way one can know anything is by or through revelation by someone (God) who knows everything, and this is exactly what we claim. Sure, you can disagree with that claim, but any knowledge claim you make in doing so, will be inconsistent with your worldview. If you doubt this, please tell us how it is possible for you to know anything according to your worldview.

Quote# 40743

[So was slavery acceptable in biblical times and then become immoral in modern times? Whatever is going on, it doesn't sound like an immutable unchanging morality.]

You're an idiot.

Slavery, in and of itself, is not immoral. Kidnapping is. The slavery in the Bible was voluntary. Except in the cases of indentured servitude that were results of the servant stealing [they became servants in order to pay restitution].

The slavery we had in the States was immoral because people were being kidnapped from their homes and forced into it. They did not go into it voluntarily.

And the way many of them were treated was also immoral. The Bible gave guidelines of how to treat slaves and servants properly.

Quote# 40740

[Regarding 'witnessing' to friends]

Yeah, I've lost everyone basically. All my family, even getting a "you're an apostate" letter from JW aunt. All friends are gone. My neighbors have done something nasty toward me for giving them tracts, my step-brother (he's in his 60's!) called me a name... can't remember what it is now, but a horrendous email. I only have my Christian friends, my son, and my husband left. Jesus did not come to bring peace, but a sword.

Keep proclaiming His Word. He is THE way, THE truth, and THE life. If they don't hear it and repent, they go to hell............... forever. Keep telling people about Him! He's worthy of it, we're commanded to do it, and what is your life anyway but a vapor. One day, He will wipe away every tear too!

Quote# 40719

Why would anybody come up with the idea that they came from a monkey? Who pays these scientists to study monkeys and find evidence of us coming from them. This is absurd. This article has showed me that lots of money goes to people who study monkeys. If humans came from a monkey and a monkey came from some bacteria that started in the ocean. How did this begin. You say the big bang. How did the big bang come to exist. What started the big bang. You cant answer that question. Scientists just started their timeline at the big bang and worked their way up. Nothing before that. Scientists chose not to believe in the Bible because it had no evidence. Well scientists have no evidence of anything either. Scientists can believe they came from monkeys but I belive in what the Bible says.

Dear friends,

Now that California has kicked up a foul same-sex marriage stink so rank that it’s attracting maggots from all over the world - you two are caterwauling like a tree full of howler monkeys about getting “married” to your own filthy partners in shame. Well, now, if it’s so wonderful, why are you two hiding the time, date and place of those glorious affairs from Westboro Baptist Church? You are glorying in your shame. Phil. 3:19. God has given you a bully pulpit and a bullhorn by virtue of your celebrity status; but rather than use it to spread a little truth and decency for young America - you are doing the opposite, spreading Satan’s filthy fag lies and immorality. You are bound, irreversibly, for Hell. WBC wants to use your farcical, unholy “weddings” to counteract your lies with a little Gospel truth. We plan to picket you! Please tell us the date, time, and place of your blasphemous affairs.

Quote# 40699

Here is the deal. There is science, and there is the bible. The bible covers a lot more, than science can in it's wet dreams. I like it's tested authority, proven prophesies, and risen Messiah. That is why I use it, when science cannot help, in some areas. -Not to build a bridge, or for guidance systems of rockets.

If one wants to use science as the basis for the claim, one must provide certain evidences, repeatability, and, etc. If you have neither for your claim, it does not have any worth, or merit. There is no need to even consider it.

Any claim I make, as a bible claim, will have solid bible support. Any claim that is a bona fide science claim will have real supports as well. If you have neither, you are not playing with the big boys. You are playing with yourself. I mean that. -As clever and exciting as you seem to think that may be, you are in the wrong forum.

Quote# 40707

This protein has been in our bodies since before Christ died on the cross. It was there when Adam and Eve were created. The sign of the cross was put in our bodies from the very beginning by the Almighty God who sees beyond time!

And notice how it's constructed. Three chains intertwined as one molecule. Think about that for a minute.

Father.

Son.

Holy Spirit.

Coincidence? I don't think so! God is truly sovereign over all!

"He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together." (Colossians 1:15-17)

Quote# 40722

Of course the world was made in 6 literal days. After all, that IS what it says in Genesis. Moses believed it was 6 literal days and Adam (who probably wrote the book that Moses edited to get that part of Genesis) believed in 6 literal days. Jesus and Paul believed in a literal Adam and Eve and (by extension) believed in a literal 6 days of creation. The geologic record seems to indicate a 6 literal days of creation and a global flood.

I guess what I don't get is why people have such a hard time taking the Bible at face value. Especially since the Bible says 6 literal days and all the scinetific evidence fits a young earth model much better than an evolutionary model.

Quote# 40697

"I don't believe in God because there is so much evil in the world." Many atheists consider the problem of evil an airtight proof that God does not exist. They often say something like: "I know there is no God because if He existed, He never would have let Hitler murder six million Jews."

A good approach to an argument like this is to say something to this effect: "Since you brought up this issue, the burden lies on you to prove that evil actually exists in the world. So let me ask you: by what criteria do you judge some things to be evil and other things not to be evil? By what process do you distinguish evil from good?" The atheist may hedge and say: "I just know that some things are evil. It's obvious." Don't accept such an evasive answer. Insist that he tell you how he knows that some things are evil. He must be forced to face the illogical foundation of his belief system.

After he struggles with this a few moments, point out to him that it is impossible to distinguish evil from good unless one has an infinite reference point which is absolutely good. Otherwise one is like a boat at sea on a cloudy night without a compass (i.e., there would be no way to distinguish north from south without the absolute reference point of the compass needle).

The infinite reference point for distinguishing good from evil can only be found in the person of God, for God alone can exhaust the definition of "absolutely good." If God does not exist, then there are no moral absolutes by which one has the right to judge something (or someone) as being evil. More specifically, if God does not exist, there is no ultimate basis to judge the crimes of Hitler. Seen in this light, the reality of evil actually requires the existence of God, rather than disproving it.

Quote# 40696

God won't allow himself to be mocked forever

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I realize that atheists think think they should be able to; deny God, deny that Jesus suffered and died on the cross to save you from death, mock Jesus (which is evident on all atheist forums, especially those without rules against it), get away with sin or deny that sin exists, think they are qualified to judge God but can't admit they themselves are guilty of sin, curse their fellow man, eat food that could have been given to the hungry, taken money that could have been given to the poor, envy their neighbor's houses, cars, intelligence, lie to themselves and others, call God evil, desecrate His creation and/or deny he created it, call the authors of the bible liars or deluded, break God's laws, desecrate the way God created the sexual union between a man and a woman, and not be held accountable.

Well sorry guys, but God gives all of us 365 days times the number of years we live to simply apologize and accept his unconditional forgiveness even though none of us deserve it ( which no earthly judge would even do). So he cannot hold us accountable until we die. And since God will not allow himself to be mocked forever, or he would be a wimp and not to be respected, he has a cut-off point which is your own death. After that you have no more chances. So anyone foolish enough to throw away a free pardon for breaking God's laws, deserves what he gets.

So sorry, guys, we all gotta grow up sometime and accept the consequences for our actions. Better now then after it's too late because none of us gets off this earth scott-free. Sorry.

Quote# 40695

The Inadequacy of Atheism.
Whether offensive or defensive, there are a number of reasons why atheism is inadequate as a rational world view. First, atheism cannot adequately explain the existence of the world. Like all things, the world in which we live cries out for an explanation. The atheist, however, is unable to provide a consistent one. If he argues that the world is eternal, then he is going against modern science which states that the universe had a beginning and is gradually running down. If the atheist affirms that the universe had a beginning, then he must account for what caused it. Either way, the atheist cannot adequately explain the world.

Second, the atheistic world view is irrational and cannot provide an adequate basis for intelligible experience. You see, an atheistic world is ultimately random, disorderly, transitive, and volatile. It is therefore incapable of providing the necessary preconditions to account for the laws of science, the universal laws of logic, and the human need for absolute moral standards. In short, it cannot account for the meaningful realities we encounter in life.

The Christian theistic world view, however, can explain these transcendental aspects of life. The uniformity of nature stems from God's orderly design of the universe. The laws of logic are a reflection of the way God Himself thinks, and would have us to think as well. Absolute moral standards, such as "Thou shalt not murder," mirror the perfect moral nature of God.

Quote# 40703

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Members of a moderate Muslim sect were ordered by the government Monday to return to mainstream Islam or face possible imprisonment for insulting the country's predominant religion.

[...]

Indonesia's constitution guarantees freedom of religion, but many in the nation of 235 million consider it offensive that the sect does not recognize Muhammad as the last prophet.

"Is it still safe for us in this country?" Ahmadiyah spokesman Syamsir Ali said in an interview with national broadcaster tvOne. "Our houses are being targeted and those who don't like us feel it is acceptable to spill our blood."

Ali said he hopes Indonesia doesn't "turn out to be like governments in the Middle East" where the movement is prohibited.

Hard-liners have attacked Ahmadiyah members and torched their mosques since the government said in April it was considering banning the faith. Several dozen religious tolerance activists were beaten at a rally in Jakarta just over a week ago while police stood by.

A spokesman for the radical Islamic Defenders' Front — which has a long record of arson, stoning and vandalism against opponents and Western targets — said the decree falls short of its demands.

"It is not enough. We will keep up the struggle until the president orders the disbandment of Ahmadiyah," he said in a telephone interview.

Earlier Monday, several thousands protesters wearing white Islamic robes and caps gathered outside the presidential palace to demand that the organization be outlawed.

The religion needs to be defended "from people who want to destroy Islam's teachings," said demonstrator Zairin, who like many Indonesian goes by a single name. The use of violence would be justified to force reluctant Ahmadiyah members to renounce their faith and "keep Islam pure," he said.
