Adoration: But here's another thought that added to my woes...how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 gays?
Scapegoat: Not long. Based on the threats of violence and death my pastor gets on a regular basis, I'm pretty sure they are plotting some sort of "Sting" to take out churches. All in the name of progress, open-mindedness, love, and tolerance of course....

Your pastor has been threatened by gay couples because he won't marry them? Either you're lying, or your pastor is.

Okay, considering the topsy-turvy world that the common Fundie inhabits, let apply a bullshit-filter onto the quote.
Result: Most likely the pastor was the one MAKING the threats, as opposed to receiving them, and then simply lied through his teeth so to score extra brownie points.
That or they are all assholes... make your pick.
how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 gays?
As far as the law is concerned, marriage is nothing more than a legal contract. If the church wants to impose other rules before they consider it a marriage before God, that's their own business.
Here, I fixed it for them:
Adoration: But here's another thought that added to my woes...how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 people of different races?
The sting, or "Operation Fabulous Bridesmaids' Dresses", takes place in 6 months, 12 days time.
And you missed out the part where the pastor would be legally obligated to offer Cher as an alternative to traditional organ music.
...how long before pastors...Christian pastors...are thrown into jail for NOT marrying 2 gays?
Well, that depends. How long until your pastor gets up to spew another hate-fueled diatribe against gays like a sick dog on a rollercoaster?
I'm pretty sure they are plotting some sort of "Sting" to take out churches.
Obviously I wouldn't want to see your church oppressed. Perhaps rather than a law enforcement sting we should just arrange for an in-depth IRS audit for your church instead.
All in the name of progress, open-mindedness, love, and tolerance of course....
You betcha. Is that the same progress, open-mindedness, love and tolerance you fundies display for anyone who hasn't knuckled under to your spiritual terrorism?
That will never happen, you twit. Legal marriage and religious marriage are two different things. Pastors have the right to refuse to marry anyone for pretty much any reason. I happen to think it's an assholish thing to do, but it's not against the law.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA -- ::gasp::
Oh, yeah, your pastor is receiving "death threats", sure. I bet they're all in his own damn handwriting, too.
No. If for some reason it became necessary to do that, we'd probably do what the French did and abolish recognition of religious marriage, and make people head down to city hall to get married before a JP before going to the church.
It'll never happen. My dad is a pastor, so I know how this works. A church can decline to preform the service for any reason. Many churches refuse to marry people who have already had sex, or if the woman is pregnant. Some won't marry people who aren't members of their church. Your church will never be forced to marry gays. It just won't happen. You're delusional.
@ James
Now I have this image in my brain of two elderly gays having a 'Civil Partnership Registration' (which is what a 'gay marriage' is officially called in the UK to avoid offending the religious) to the strains of 'If I Could Turn Back Time'.
Incidentally,(and relating to a different post), despite our government condoning Civil Partnerships £1 sterling now = $1.95 It was $1.75 when the 'Gay Marriage' law was brought in.
Strange, that.
Thanks ;-)
Am I the only one on here a little weirded out about that particular post? Not by the hysterical, conspiracy-theorizing homophobia--that's par for the course. No, I mean, is this one poster calling his/herself "Adoration and Scapegoat"? It sounds like some kind of performance artist. You know, the guy/gal marches on stage, with different makeup on either side of his/her body, and announces, in different voices: "I am Adoration!" "And I am Scapegoat!"
Hmm. Not a bad concept, actually. Maybe I'll try it out.
"Based on the threats of violence and death my pastor gets on a regular basis"
Shit of the bull. The only people who would bother phoning a pastor or priest with death threats, are the people who don't want to see people they even suspect of being gay, or divorced, in a church.
Umn... no.
The Catholic Church, has a strong prohibition on divorce and remarriage. Guess what? Even though the government recognizes second marriages, no Catholic church has EVER been forced to marry divorced people.
Divorced people seeking remarriage, are, of course, a much larger group than gay people seeking first marriage. So if the divorced can't force the church's hand, gays certainly cannot.
Instead, we're going to be positively biblical about it. "Render unto Ceasar's that which is Ceasar's." Civil marriage and religious marriage are independent.
riiight. and the fact that my fundamentalist christian father, a full-time minister in the first province to legalize gay marriage, has never ever EVER received a single threat over not marrying same-sex couples... is an anomaly? or is it just that canadians are so peace-loving that even the baby-eating lobby for the omgbbq!!1! gay agenda can't muster up the will to look beyond its poutine? fucking american fundies.
I get violent death threats on a fairly regular basis as well. Most of them well, all of them, actually consist of, “im gogin 2 kill u uo thing you no god ill show u god mutherfucka i stab ur eye out b cur webpage is sick. BTW god luvs evry1! Drop ded, bigot.”
Despite this, however, I need only consider how human rights are flagrantly abused elsewhere in the world to know that what I face is nothing like organized persecution.
Ditto for your whiny pastor, Scapegoat; his receiving poorly-written missives disagreeing with his stance, or even threatening him, is nothing like the state-sponsored terror he would face in
say
China.
So piss off, b4 I stab ur bals w/a spoom.
Not long. Based on the threats of violence and death homosexuals get on a regular basis, I'm pretty sure the fundies are plotting some sort of "Crusade" to take out homosexuals. All in the name of progress, open-mindedness, love, and tolerance, of course....
Fixed/
Unless your pastor is down on the street corner screaming that they're all going to hell, I really doubt he gets death threats. But lies pour off a fundies tongue as easy as water.
A church can refuse to perform any wedding they want. I know one that refused because they were not active members of that specific congregation and the pastor did not personally know them. There are churches that accept gays into their fold, so if a gay couple wants a church wedding, I'm pretty sure they'd go to one of those churches.
And really Scapegoat? You've really got a persecution hardon, don't you. Well...

Or here's an idea: LEARN ABOUT HOW THE FUCK LAWS WORK AND THEN STFU!
It's still legal for any minister to refuse to do a marriage, and there's no hint of that ever being overturned.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
