“Belief in God is rational and supported by good reasons,”
If that were true, Christains would not keep trotting out that stupid wager of Pascal’s….
“and belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster is irrational and not supported by any good reasons.”
And no one believes in the FSM.
“Bobby Henderson simply begs the question (commits a logical fallacy) when he says that there are no good reasons for belief in God.”
What question does it beg?
Now, YOU saying it’s begging the question DOES beg the question: Oh, and what IS a good reason to believe in the Christain god as held to be true by your particular sect of Christainity?
Note that you can’t just refer to the Christain God, because you guys all insist that Catholics, Baptists, Mormons are worshiping differently. So what can you offer for what YOU believe? Why should i join YOUR superstition?
“Despite his claim to the contrary, Christianity is a rationally defensible religion.”
Ookay. So, defend it.
“There are difficult questions that we must ask ourselves as Christians, but the fact that there are difficult questions is not grounds for dismissing Christianity.”
No, but how do you find the answers might be.
“As believers, our pursuit of answers to our own deep-seated spiritual questions draws us further into the intellectual richness of the Christian faith.”
Time after time the ‘intellectual richness’ i see are Christains who think the Flood was 40 days, who think that the bible prohibits abortion, who think that the bible restricts slavery, AND who insist biblical slavery was no worse than being a maid or a stableboy, and who are unable to list all three versions of the 10 Commandments.
But still, I see some high-falutin’ claims, but no actual rational defense of ‘God came to Earth to sacrifice himself to himself to keep himself from throwing everyone into the Hell made by himself.’
