But I hate it because I just hate most Spielberg films in general (except Saving Private Ryan, Jaws...)

1. That was the whole point of the movie. He was trying to play God...and failed. (Watch the directors cut, a much better ending in my opinion)
2.Kayleigh's father was one of the archtypical antagonist in the movie. The crosses on the wall during the prono scene were to show that this is a "typical suburban white american home" and that even though he says that he follows God, He can still do bad things.
3. Carlos religon again shows that even though Evan tries to play God...he can't (And that timeline shunt was screwy. IF he impaled his hands in the second grade, he would have always had those scars. They wouldn't 'suddenly' appear.)
3b. Evan laughed then because it was so different from the Tommy he knew.
3c. (since you don't know how to label) stereotypical white superiorist, nothing more.
If you don't like the movie...then DON'T WATCH IT!!! Simple as that.
