Nowhere does anything say that. Supposedly, the Messiah will reestablish the theocratic KINGDOM of Israel in which God will personally govern and so on and so forth. The modern State of Israel is different and officially secular ((Though don't ask Netanyahu or his cronies about that)).
Personally, I'm of the view that everyone has it in themselves to be the Messiah and that all being the Messiah means is that you're supposed to try and leave the world a better place than when you entered it.

Although if you look at things this way, it does put the stories in the Book of Judges (among elsewhere) in a really grim light. Not that Judges needs to be any grimmer considering the content in there.

In fairness, they kinda are protesting about that. They just have no idea what the facts are. Even in Israel, the Orthodox are thought of as pretty damn annoying, especially in the big cities.
