The same when a womon holds her Wise Blood inside and becomes a Crone. Crones were even more feared..Once the Tribal Elders and Wise womyn and healers were turned into useless and villainous older women who were hunted down in the Witch craze during the Dark/Middle Ages....destroying the wisdom and last remnants of our matriarchal societies and Knowing to a deep seated fear many womyn have at truly accessing our Power at the deepest of levels. You have Patriarchal mind numbing soul and spirit stifling religions to thank for that....much less the 80 million females a year who undergo Female Genital Mutilation in the name of male dominated religion.

I agree with some of this, primarily the part about shaming women during our menstrual cycles and male-dominated religions oppressing women.

Where she goes wrong is claiming that it was only older women (or women only) who were accused and tortured or burned during the christian Dark Ages. Though the majority of the accused were women, many men also endured torture and were executed under suspicion of Witchcraft. Most of the accused were christians, which makes that entire hunt more than a little ironic.

Also, citation needed re: 80 million girls enduring FGM every year. It's a lot, perhaps even in the thousands, but to say 'millions' may be inflating the numbers. I'll look it up and come back later.

1) Those headaches and weird cravings you get during PMS are not evidence of psychic powers or "connecting to Mother Earth," sorry.

2) "Orthodox Judaism" as we know it is a relatively recent invention - i.e., it definitely did not exist during the time people were transitioning from paganism to Judaism. Sexism isn't on the list of things Jews are "to blame" for.

3) If you think the pre-Abrahamic religions of most cultures were any nicer to women, you really haven't been paying any attention to history. In many places, the arrival of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, etc. actually helped improve the status of women.

4) The victims of witch hunts were overwhelmingly people who were already social outcasts and people living at the margins of society. This included women who were unusually independent, suspected criminals, male and female homo/bisexuals, and anyone else who did not fit the norms of their society in a way that raised suspicion. It had nothing to do with their ability to actually practice "witchcraft."

Oh, please. "Most powerful time physically", my ass. Those women were probably just smart enough to turn the male superstition and fear of menstruation to their advantage so that they could get a couple of days of rest while they were experiencing the pain, exhaustion, and headaches of their periods, pre-ibuprofen. Good for them.

You had a few good points there, and then you ruined it with all of the stupid woo-woo. It's just a biological function, like digestion. If you have great "spiritual" experiences or visions, seek help. You either have a hormone imbalance or a mental illness that's exacerbated by hormonal shifts.

Wykked Wytch: Absolutely. I see it as a mixed bag, both assets and liabilities. While I do recognize that there were some good things done, organized religion has also done a lot of harm.

Professor von SCIENCE!!!: I get what you're saying, and it's true; there are some women in our community that will slap menstrual blood on pretty much anything during ritual. I read a blog several years ago by a woman who would harvest and save her 'moon flow' for not only ritual use, but for daily blessings. However, the only ones I've met that do it have been Dianic or some other form of 'Goddess Only' worshipers (and even then, only a small percentage of people do it). Most of us, myself included, don't do that. I don't see my own 'moon flow' as anything more than a natural cycle. We don't use bile or other bodily fluids, either.

I've never seen myself as a lunatic, either, but I suppose that's all a matter of perspective. LOL

Ummmm... no. It's actually the reverse: the husband cannot touch the wife. Not to mention "touch" probably means "have sex with" in this context, because this commandment is featured in the Mishna chapter dealing with sexual purity and impurity. This isn't due to eeeeeeeeeevil male agenda. It's mostly due to the fact that bleeding vaginas and women in pain are a huge turnoff to but the most vile rapists-to-be. It makes sense, methinks.

And this would affect your arcane menses powers how exactly? If we believe you, women can do this as naturally as, say, using their hands. To draw a parallel, women in the Medieval Ages were expected to be dainty and helpless (DURR HURR MALE OPPRESSION), but peasant girls had to have physical prowess to work. I don't think the shaming for this prevented them from working to save their families from starving.
If your magical menstrual sorcery can be quelled by a little shame, it ain't that great anyway.
