[Regarding a Hindu poster who expressed distaste the British occupation of India in the first half of the twentieth century]
Yes I know. It appears that most people are concerned about racism only when it is directed at minorities. About such racism we should certainly be concerned, but nor should we ignore this instance of blatent, anti-Western Indian nationalism. Perhaps people have not learned the lesson of Nazi Germany: that nationalism is a dangerous philosophy

Oh crap - is that what she meant! Without the comma I assumed she was talking about internal Indian politics - discriminating against West India, as opposed to anti Western Nationalism [in an inferred tautology by Indians]. I wasn't going to bother with a debate on Bombay becoming Madras becoming Chennai or their tiered caste system or discrimination against Seikhs. (From memory they were predominantly in the West of India.) I probably made a few other mistakes too.
How dare a country with over a billion people wish for autonomy and the right to Govern itself. I guess that made America anti-Western and racist back in 1776.
And I, on behalf of all Australia, would like to extend a hearty, 'Get Fucked' to our erstwhile colonial overlords.
Oh and givvus our ashes back ya theiv'n mongrels!
Huh? He's equating India's desire to be out from under Britain's foreign rule to the Nazi agenda of BEING the foreign rulers of all other nations?
Something is seriously screwed up in THAT equation.
Oh, and Julian: What's this about ashes? (I'm American, so I'm terribly ignorant about world history.)

Sour grapes Julian old boy! Maybe we should occupy you again, y'know, to save you from the terrible perils of nationalism. (How is Paline Hanson?)Now, if we could only beat you at Rugby League ... nah, we'll let the Kiwis do that.
Keeping in tone with the "proud colonists" theme, if you have to invade Canada, use a hockey team. We'll just have to use our Olympic women's team, and send you packing! That, and the British would never get past Quebec. Vive le Canadiens!
No sour grapes.
Pauline's out of jail now. Can't say I've ever followed her idiocy that closely. She was like George Bush. Insane, illiterate, popularist, figurehead. The brains behind the puppet, was called David Oldfield and I'm fairly certain everyone stopped listening to him.
That said, there's some commercial TV channels over here where their news and 'Current Affairs' are becoming increasingly FOXified.
I think we need an amendment (addendum?) to Godwin's Law
What you propose was the original form (if maybe not the exact text) of Godwin's Law. What's popularly called "Godwin's Law" (that the eventual fascist analogy is a confession of losing the argument) is itself an addendum, amendment or corollary, one which IMO only applies if the person making the analogy can't back it up to a DSM-IV degree. Oh, yes, and the American colonists who protested against British taxes? Totally racist. I mean, who wouldn't want to pay taxes to a faraway country and give room and board to strangers for free?
And don't get me started on the Native Americans, those racist, scalping savages. When they tried to unite the tribes against the white man, what do you think that was? Nationalism! Never mind that they were trying to get the Europeans off their land, rather than paddling to Europe and attempting to conquer England. Nazis! Whoever opposes the saintly white Anglo-Saxon must be a Nazi, because the Nazis only fought against the English!
You're an idiot.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
