Because if it's not something done in faith, it's not pleasing to Him and not good afterall but done with ulterior motives. Good works by Christians are done because the Gospel has given us faith and we do the works out of thanksgiving to God and because those works benefit our neighbor. These pleasing good works are done because we have faith. Anything outside of that is not considered a "good" work by God since it's not done by faith.
