Many people are unpleasent, and this applies to anyone. Atheists are no more (and likely less) unpleasent than anyone else. Fortunately, you have reminded us that this is from the limited perspective of your own experience. From your own experience, atheists likely seem to be a pissed-off and angry bunch. I will help show you why by simulating a conversation between you and a hypothetical atheist. (KR= This fundie nut, A= atheist.)

(Setting: The park. A and KR have just met, and are talking.)
A: I like this park.
KR: Yeah, it's nice. I'm gonna have my church picnic here.
A: Oh? That's nice.
KR: What church do you belong to?
A: I'm an atheist.
KR: Eww! You're gay!
A: I beg your pardon?
KR: You're an atheist, and atheists are gay!
A: Um, no. I'm not gay. I just don't believe in any gods.
KR (angry): You're going to hell!
A: Oh, really.
KR (very angry, screaming): YOU'RE A VILE DISGUSTING ATHEIST AND YOU'RE GOING TO HELL! YOU WANT TO KILL PEOPLE AND DESTROY AMERICA!
A: Calm down! I don't want to destroy America and I don't want to kill anyone. I just don't believe in any gods.

You see, if you tell atheists that they're damned or horrible, they will likely respond in a manner that would be considered rude in ordinary conversation. This does not mean that they are unpleasant people; rather, it means that you are an unpleasant person.

Here's a little food for thought, Keith: Christians do not make up a majority of the world's population. Hinduism is the most popular religion. Other religions are incompatible with Christianity as well, so non-Christians make up a majority of the population. How dare you offend the majority of the world's population by being Christian?

What's this supposed to mean? Atheism isn't a club with membership requirements. If you don't believe in any gods, you're an atheist, no matter what. Other atheists can't say you're not an atheist because you're gay or straight or black or white or up or down or whatever. How could an atheist say that a nonbeliever is \"not an atheist?\" Perhaps you think atheism is just another church, which can impose membership requirements on people hoping to join. In that case, this is what I think.



No, most Christians are straight. More Christians than atheists are straight, I'm guessing. When a religion designates a minority as \"horrible\" and does all it can to oppress them, that minority paticipates in that religion at lower rates than the general population.

This is the only sentence that I can flat out disagree with. I do not know, nor do I think anyone else here knows for sure whether or not he is being honest about the other parts of his statement.

If he is telling the truth, and has been treated rudely on a regular basis by Gay people and/or atheists, then he is only reporting observations. If he is lying and just making blanket statements out of his ass, then he deserves every bit of criticism he gets on this thread. Unless somebody here knows this guy personally and knows for certain he is a liar, I think all these insults might be unjustified, with exception for the sentence I just pointed out.
