Quote# 11624

The people who would have the world 'doin' it' like jack rabbits would also have us believe that condoms are %100 effective in preventing the spread of disease and in preventing pregnancy. The TRUTH is that condoms are only about 30% effective in preventing pregnancy, so one must conclude thier efficacy in preventing the spread of diseases like HIV leave somthing to be desired.

The only sure fire method for a woman to avoid an unwanted pregnancy is to not have sex. The only sure fire way for a person to avoid contracting a sexually transmitted disease to not have high risk sexual contact. For most people, this means abstinance. It certainly means fidelity to marraige vows for the rest.

The morning after pill is very worrisome because it is death in a bottle - not just to a fetus, but very possibly for the woman taking the abortifacient. Abortion should never be a simple or easy or accessible choice for anyone. It needs to be entirely under the perview of REAL medical professionals in a traditional hospital setting with the oversite of an ethics commitee in place to determine if a pregnancy really IS a danger to the life of the mother, and real counselors in place to educate any woman in that position of the full spectrum of every choice available in said situation.

If we, as a society, had put as much money into figuring out a way to preserve a tiny fetus ex-utero and cryogenicaly store it to be implanted into an adoptive mother at some future date, we likely would have saved billions of lives already and not be in this cultural morass.

God Bless,
mik

I've never seen a 'God Bless' that felt so strongly like an 'Up Yours'.

I guess all those hemophiliacs who got HIV were just trying to cover up for their adultery.

\"The people who would have the world 'doin' it' like jack rabbits would also have us believe that condoms are %100 effective in preventing the spread of disease and in preventing pregnancy.\"

No reputable source has ever claimed condoms to 100% effective birth control.

\"The TRUTH is that condoms are only about 30% effective in preventing pregnancy,\"

No, I think the last stat I read from Planned Parenthood was that condoms were 98+% effective birth control.

\"so one must conclude thier efficacy in preventing the spread of diseases like HIV leave somthing to be desired.\"

No, I don't have to conclude that.

\"The only sure fire method for a woman to avoid an unwanted pregnancy is to not have sex.\"

Not true. Not that I would expect anyone of RR to know this, but there are other ways of having sex which do not involve putting a penis in a vagina.

\"The only sure fire way for a person to avoid contracting a sexually transmitted disease to not have high risk sexual contact.\"

No, you would have to avoid all sexual contact. Not being \"high risk\" does not mean zero risk.

\"For most people, this means abstinance.\"

So, your contention is that any sex at all is \"high risk\" sexual contact?

\"It certainly means fidelity to marraige vows for the rest.\"

Don't get me wrong, I think fidelity is great, but there can be \"high risk\" sexual contact within marriages and there can be low risk contact outside of marriages.

\"The morning after pill is very worrisome because it is death in a bottle - not just to a fetus,\"

That's untrue. That's not how the morning after pill works. At the time Plan B is used there is no fetus anyway.

\"but very possibly for the woman taking the abortifacient.\"

Not true, and I suspect you know it isn't true.

\"Abortion should never be a simple or easy or accessible choice for anyone.\"

Certainly no one who would actually have an abortion, eh, mikitta?

\"It needs to be entirely under the perview of REAL medical professionals in a traditional hospital setting with the oversite of an ethics commitee in place to determine if a pregnancy really IS a danger to the life of the mother, and real counselors in place to educate any woman in that position of the full spectrum of every choice available in said situation.\"

Anyway you can think of to deny others a right you don't hold dear.

\"If we, as a society, had put as much money into figuring out a way to preserve a tiny fetus ex-utero and cryogenicaly store it to be implanted into an adoptive mother at some future date, we likely would have saved billions of lives already and not be in this cultural morass.\"

At the time when Plan B is used or most abortions performed, THERE IS NO FETUS. Got it?
The only morass we have here is that you're more of an ass than I thought you were at the beginning of this post.

The only sentences even close to true in the entire post (and neither is 100% accurate, as others have pointed out).

Is there a reason we have two Lying for Jesus awards this month? They're both deserved (though this one a little less so than the first), but ...

If not it should be. Not that it would matter since they rarely pay attention to anything else in their holy book except to point out when someone else isn't following it.

And this is why sexual education should be mandatory in schools. And why over here in The Netherlands we'll be having a new campaign set up to promote the use of contraceptives, especially the condom.

Plan B and RU-486 are not the same by any stretch of the imagination. Plan B is a massive dose of Progesterone, the hormone created by pregnancy, which disrupts the signaling for an egg to pop out of the ovary. Because the egg hasn't been released, it can't be fertilized, therefore Plan B is not an abortion. RU-486 on the other hand is a pill that forces a misscarriage, which makes it an abortificant.

I've been reading my Pharyngula.

Yes, and if we as a society had invested a few billion dollars into equine cybernetics, we'd all be riding around on rocket horses right about now.

Are you refering to those that post on this site? If you are, I would really like to know where that 30% figure comes from, assuming it wasn't just made up.
