w00t! We bagged another one, my atheist companions! Da Vinci Code, Harry Potter--Satan just keeps cranking out the bestsellers.
5/13/2006 10:27:34 PM
I wonder if he will then use 'Star Wars' as his primary religious text
5/13/2006 10:29:50 PM
Napoleon the Clown
Thanks for letting us know. We have properly catologued this information and will fax it to Satan letting him now he's doing a reat job.

\"... and told them that he had been decieved by the bible, that this book \"opened his eyes to the truth\"
Decieved by one book and now another. I don't think he'd even register on a standardized IQ test.
\"... said from now on he would be teaching from that book.\"
What exactly would he be teaching? Why doesn't he just go to the source and teach from Holy Blood, Holy Grail? You know, that book that Brown got all his ideas from. If you think the Davinci Code is bad you'd have a stroke if you read that one.
\"If you recall, God said in the end times that even the \"Elect\" would be decieved if possible.\"
In my experience it's the ones who think they can't be decieved who are the first to be so.
\"We have to be careful.\"
Yes, for it wont be long before someone comes around to fit you all with a nice jacket with extra long sleeves.
5/13/2006 10:50:48 PM
I suspect the story of the pastor is bullshit. It sounds a bit like the cautionary tales to not get into drugs, doesn't it?
5/13/2006 11:07:52 PM
Either this is an urban myth or there is a lot more to the story. No ex-Christian that I know turned away that suddenly. And for such unsupported drivel as the Da Vinci code? Not likely!
5/13/2006 11:31:35 PM
Anecdotes are trivial, especially when you just make them up.
5/13/2006 11:51:08 PM
Deceived or came to his senses? I wouldn't recommend teaching from the Da Vinci Code, but maybe it was that last straw that pushed this guy off the Xian bandwagon. Could be his realization about the absurdity of Xianity had been building up in him for a long time. Whatever the case, he doesn't sound like he handled himself very well.
Then again, you could just be lying.
5/14/2006 12:12:27 AM
\"said from now on he would be teaching from that book.\"
Like fuck! He'd be riding off into the sunset on a stolen Harley to catch up on his lost years!
5/14/2006 12:36:16 AM
he didnt love her and never had
So he stopped lying to her. Isn't that part of repenting?
called his daughter some very bad names
I always wonder what the \"very bad names\" are. But maybe she was all he said she was. Another example of no more lying.
decieved by the bible
This is true, people are decieved by the bible and the people who explain the texts to them on daily basis.
the \"Elect\" would be decieved if possible
So? why didn't god make it impossible if he hates it that much?
5/14/2006 1:19:23 AM
And God is punsihing Dan Brown by making him exceedingly rich!
5/14/2006 1:56:23 AM
mad dog: please, please, PLEASE let this occur. I would be the first to sign up (well, behind all those people who listed 'Jedi' as their religion on some census or another...). Viva la Star Wars!
5/14/2006 2:32:51 AM
Our father, who art on Hoth, hallowed be Yoda's name...
5/14/2006 2:43:02 AM
Lying for Jesus? Again.
I love the fact that the character didn't go through any real changes, just suddenly hated everyone. I bet its something like over time the pastor lost his faith and his family hated him.
5/14/2006 2:56:10 AM
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this is total bullshit.
5/14/2006 4:32:12 AM
b. beau brinker
J-Walk linked to this:
5/14/2006 12:27:15 PM
Those curse words being \"think\", \"thought\", \"considered\", \"questioned\", \"debated\" and \"eureka!\"
5/14/2006 2:09:02 PM
The Last Conformist
I wish to say I'm 100% certain the story is made up out whole cloth, but prolonged exposture to fundies has taught me there's no limit to human stupidity and gullibility, so I'll stick to 95.86% sure.
5/14/2006 3:03:00 PM
I think Alex W. is correct here. Lying for jesus is not a good thing, mr. tnybblz.
5/15/2006 7:55:41 AM
Don't worry. A Pastor as stupid as that will one day for no reason at all suddenly decide that Christianity is right again and go back to it...
5/15/2006 5:08:46 PM
So, somewhere in America, there is a full-blown Church of the Da Vinci Code.
... I kinda want to go there now.
5/15/2006 8:48:06 PM
And if we turn to page 23, we shall all readeth from the parable of the tracking device in the cake of soap.
5/15/2006 11:46:37 PM
Ugh, if you must make up stories, please make them somewhat believable.
5/16/2006 4:01:29 AM
Well, this is interesting. I have been a Christian for 2 years and I'm studying ministry in college. I read the Da Vinci Code and it actually helped me to reaffirm my faith, as well as research the authors claims to find out that most of his theories had been debunked many years ago.
I do have to say, this pastor, 35 years or not, was likely going through the motions and was not that firmly grounded in his faith if a book like this changed his mind.
That or he was just looking for an excuse all along.
5/17/2006 10:59:57 PM
Congratulations, roadrunner, but you should know that Dan Brown never has claimed that these \"theories\" in The Da Vinci Code are his; they were material that he used as the foundation for a work of fiction, not any agenda he was trying to promote as reality. It's the nutcases who have seized on this as if it were reality (along with those who came up with these \"theories\" in the first place) who are the real fools here, not Brown.
