I know a man who has been a pastor for 35 yrs. He, for some reason, decided to read the Da vinci code when the book came out. On Easter morning he got up, told his wife of 33 yrs, he didnt love her and never had, called his daughter some very bad names, went in front of his church and told them that he had been decieved by the bible, that this book "opened his eyes to the truth", used several curse words, and said from now on he would be teaching from that book. I would be careful about watching the movie. If you recall, God said in the end times that even the "Elect" would be decieved if possible. I feel that this is a tool of the devil. This world is getting more and more evil every day. We have to be careful.

"... and told them that he had been decieved by the bible, that this book "opened his eyes to the truth"
Decieved by one book and now another. I don't think he'd even register on a standardized IQ test.
"... said from now on he would be teaching from that book."
What exactly would he be teaching? Why doesn't he just go to the source and teach from Holy Blood, Holy Grail ? You know, that book that Brown got all his ideas from. If you think the Davinci Code is bad you'd have a stroke if you read that one.
"If you recall, God said in the end times that even the "Elect" would be decieved if possible."
In my experience it's the ones who think they can't be decieved who are the first to be so.
"We have to be careful."
Yes, for it wont be long before someone comes around to fit you all with a nice jacket with extra long sleeves.
Deceived or came to his senses? I wouldn't recommend teaching from the Da Vinci Code, but maybe it was that last straw that pushed this guy off the Xian bandwagon. Could be his realization about the absurdity of Xianity had been building up in him for a long time. Whatever the case, he doesn't sound like he handled himself very well.
Then again, you could just be lying.
he didnt love her and never had So he stopped lying to her. Isn't that part of repenting?
called his daughter some very bad names I always wonder what the "very bad names" are. But maybe she was all he said she was. Another example of no more lying.
decieved by the bible This is true, people are decieved by the bible and the people who explain the texts to them on daily basis.
the "Elect" would be decieved if possible
So? why didn't god make it impossible if he hates it that much?
mad dog: please, please, PLEASE let this occur. I would be the first to sign up (well, behind all those people who listed 'Jedi' as their religion on some census or another...). Viva la Star Wars!
Those curse words being "think", "thought", "considered", "questioned", "debated" and "eureka!"
I wish to say I'm 100% certain the story is made up out whole cloth, but prolonged exposture to fundies has taught me there's no limit to human stupidity and gullibility, so I'll stick to 95.86% sure.
Well, this is interesting. I have been a Christian for 2 years and I'm studying ministry in college. I read the Da Vinci Code and it actually helped me to reaffirm my faith, as well as research the authors claims to find out that most of his theories had been debunked many years ago.
I do have to say, this pastor, 35 years or not, was likely going through the motions and was not that firmly grounded in his faith if a book like this changed his mind.
That or he was just looking for an excuse all along.
Congratulations, roadrunner, but you should know that Dan Brown never has claimed that these "theories" in The Da Vinci Code are his ; they were material that he used as the foundation for a work of fiction, not any agenda he was trying to promote as reality. It's the nutcases who have seized on this as if it were reality (along with those who came up with these "theories" in the first place) who are the real fools here, not Brown.

Actually, at the beginning of the book, he states that the Priory of Sion is fact, and all the stuff about it in the book is fact. he says all the secret societies, rituals, etc are all historical fact. I've seen him say this in interviews too. He says the story of Langdon and Sophie were fictional, but the information surrounding them are historical facts.
Of course, he doesnt' say thats all facts, he sells a few million less books and it probably doesn't become a movie.
Ugh. It's hard to determine whether I want to rate this guy highly because he's a fundie or because he's just STUPID. Sadly enough, though, the preacher is several times stupider. I have to wonder, though, if he has any history of mental illness in his family or anything.. this sounds like schizophrenia, almost.
Hey, I know a man who read the Da Vinci Code and next day an angel of the Lord Almighty came down with a Ferrari full of chicks and one million dollars to give it to him.
Now, if you want the same, you have to resend this message to at least 10 friends. If you don't do this, very very bad things will happen to you - like someone calling you bad names and such things.
Roadrunner, I seem to recall that the Priory of Sion text, on which Brown heavily based his book's premise, has been debunked in the media numerous times as a complete fabrication, a hoax from a few decades ago. So even if he himself thought it was genuine, others have been trying to correct that misinformation.

No joking. You´re right guys, this story is a cautionary tale, and not a very original one. To be honest, the Da Vinci code is a very well-written book but for any learned person, not a theologician, as this man should be, but any Art or history aficionado, is full of inaccuracies. Besides, one thing is that you doubt over Jesus marital state and something else behaving like an ass. Honestly, this person is trying to assign the book kind of malign supernatural features and tells that the deceived one was a pastor to make it more frightening. I don´t believe it. I have been consulting with literature teachers and they told me that many novels such as "O crimen do Padre Amaro" or some anti-clerical stories were urban legends that people were WELL-AWARE of.
Besides, there is something which has given me the clue to the urban legend stuff. He does it on Easter Morning.Honestly, can´t he be opened to the truth any other day, as many agnostic people I know?.People have chosen that date due to its significance, as well as the data of the "pastor for more than 35 years". They want to mean, "imagine its power, with us poor sinners".
Then I bet the pastor did a line of coke off of a hooker's ass, shot a puppy, drank the blood of a unicorn, and donated money to PBS.
I love the smell of bullshit in the morning...
If the faith is so fragile, it can be deceived by a mere book of fiction, it's not much of a faith, really.
I know a man who was really non-religious for about most of his life. One day he decided to give the Bible a good read, as he never so much as laid a finger on the book in all his life. He soon found this book "opened his eyes to the truth". He condemned his entire family, stating they were all filthy heathens and going to hell for daring to question the book. He called his wife a 'filthy whore' and refused to love her anymore for losing her virginity outside of marriage. He continued to abuse his children verbally for their skepticism, even to the point of using vile curse words. He said from now on he would only listen to what was listed in that book and anyone with an outside opinion should be ridiculed and demonized. I feel this book is a tool of evil. The world is getting more and more evil every day. We have to be careful.
"Pastor snaps and goes off deep end"
is hardly news anyway. Many priests have renounced their belief in front of the congregation, many more have never believed anyway and stayed or left quietly.
Why the Da Vinci Code would change anyones views bewilder me, it's just a story dude. This is on Rapture Ready, these people believe every occult concept ever imagined are real due to their concept of Satan being very diverse and busy. I don't think there's a more gullible group in existance.
These people think Harry Potter spells, spoken verbatim from the books, are REAL MAGICAL SPELLS.
Confused?
