Most people here believe that the bible is total bullshit, while forgetting that it has many truths to it. Noah's ark and the flood, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, and several other events of the bible have been proven to be true by archeolgical digs.

The bible may have some merit as a historical document. But it doesn't prove God's role in it.
If you make assertions, I'll respond likewise.
"Proven to be true by archaeological digs?" You mean that odd shape on a mountain that an amateur said was the Ark, the one he refused to send for testing? And Sodom and Gomorrah, you mean the city that was probably destroyed by fire started by an erupting volcano, the one the fundies insisted was Sodom even though the dates weren't even close, right?
To be fair to this guy, there were ancient cities very similar to Sodom and Gomorrah that were discovered somewhere in Palestine, figured it could BE Sodom and Gomorrah, since the two cities match the Biblical cities rather closely.
However, I disagree with what he said regarding Noah's ark and the flood. As far as I can tell, none of the dozens of claims to have found the ark have ever been verified.
Though it was true that there was a chain of volcanic eruptions that triggered a rather massive flood due to underwater seismic activity.
It's a natural event that happens every once in a while so the planet doesn't run out of steam to keep the plates moving.
They recently discovered a bunch of ruined buildings in the middle of the Atlantic, some folks think it's Atlantis, it may very well be. the story of Noah's Ark may be a horribly exaggerated metaphor for someone who survived this global flooding by using a boat for him and his family ((Not every animal on Earth, that's bs)).
Also, it's not that one amateur went up to the mountain and dug something out and claimed it was a piece of the Ark, it's that the Turkish won't let anybody go up there and see what that vague object on the satallite camera actually was.
Noah's Ark: The "evidence" of the Ark itself comes in the form of contradictory, unsubstantiated accounts from religious groups and in the form of stones that people apparently think were used as anchors, with no justification apparently needed for this belief.
The "truths" that you can get the Bible are the same that you can get from any other work of fiction: mildly accurate representations of human nature and mildly accurate representations of current/past events and locations. That devout Christians cling to such trivial things as proof of the validity of their religion is nothing short of pathetic.

Damn, I must start watching the news more often. I miss a lot of good stuff, like the proof of Noah's ark and the flood. There I was thinking they were still imaginary bullshit stories with no possible foundation in reality.
