But the placebo in that scenario still isn't doing anything. It's all in your--fuck it.

Talk about missing the point!
Johnnie is striving pretty hard to break his own (and any other fundies' as well) records of stupidity.

Sorry, I enjoy valuing myself. If I rely on God my mind gives Him the credit. Then I feel like a worthless pile of shit.

Oh, no better, really, just about 1/3, the same as for all the other placebos. At least until the patient's enthusiasm flags, and the pain of reality sets in again.
And those placebo studies refer to the subjective feeling of symptoms, not the physical effect that takes place. The most convinced placebo-taker in the world will not be able to vaccinate himself from a disease merely by believing himself already immunized.

\"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one.\" -- George Bernard Shaw
Beyond that, every properly done study has shown that a) prayer has no effect on recovery from illness and b) when controlled for behaviors, believers are no healthier than non-believers.

1) Why not, by the same token, just conclude that believing in god is a placebo.
2) Why don't 100% of people show improvement if this comes from god? I might concede that there is 1/3 of a god, but not a whole one!

Hmmm, isn't a placebo an utterly useless, sugar coated deception!
Well, OK it does sound like God now you mention it!
Shame your other statistics are bullshit - never mind, just coat them with sugar!

Wait, wait... is this another Death by Irony Overdose? Or a Least Helpful Analogy?
He's comparing God to a placebo - meaning that like a placebo, God has no actual effect on us, we just *think* that's the case.
Wow. Just... wow.

You know, considering that he's arguing that it's the FAITH in God (rather than God itself) that causes the effect similar to one's faith in a placebo drug, I think that maybe JohnR7 deserves a \"By Jove, I Think He's Got It!\" Award for this one.

I voted a 1 for this, because it's actually a decent argument against religion.
Now that I just remembered this poster IS a Christian I'm thinking I should have given it a 5
