Race is a very significant, if not the single most important factor when defining foreignness for most people in the world.
''And actually, a lot of the models who look non-white are often not foreigners at all! The west has been a multi-racial society for a looooong time, and it is just as likely that the white model is from Ukraine while the Asian model is from San Francisco.''
If you actually live according to this ideal, then all the power to you. But like it or not, that is not how most people, including myself, operate. So pardon me for not jumping on the politically-correct post-racial bandwagon. Immigrants in the will ALWAYS remain outsiders to some degree, no matter how small, in relation to the mainstream culture that was established by the dominant ethnic group, which was Whites for the West.
And here's the key point: that is ABSOLUTELY fine by me. It is simply a part of human nature to be tribal; the liberal mentality of thinking that we're somehow above the laws of nature is simply pure hubris. So just as I don't expect my racial/ethnic group to be fairly represented in the west (though some of us still rightfully try their damn hardest for such), whites shouldn't be surprised to find their status waning in an increasingly racially-aware China.
