People in 150, 200 years will probably look back on what we do to billions of other animals (for the sake of taste, not need) just like we look at the worst atrocities in history. It's unnecessary, and if it we take secular reasoning seriously it leads to veganism and anti-speciesism.

"Factory farms especially should disgust our descendants."
Especially if by then, aliens have taken over the planet and there are factory farms breeding humans.
So that bacon sandwich I just had was basically the Holocaust.
Feck off.
It's true that factory farms are an abomination, but I grew up on a livestock farm and I know first-hand that not all farms are terrible.
@People mentioning factory farms:
This delirious moonbat is talking about what would be different "150, 200" years from now. (I initially didn't notice the space, so the first thing I saw was "People in 150,200 years will..." and I immediately went "WTF??" before I even read any further.) I'm pretty sure factory farms would already disgust and appall something like 80% of the population once they're told or for an even higher figure, shown the obscene conditions and treatment of animals there. Whether it would influence their buying habits is another story, but I still think a fair majority of them would buy more humane food given a price they could reasonably afford, even if it's more expensive. That's the case at least as far as eggs and milk are concerned: I know because I buy them.
Hell, I think at least half of people who don't give a fuck about how the animals are treated would still be disgusted (as in grossed-out) after seeing what goes on at factory farms and appalled that nobody pressing the issue was presented in a reasonable light, so they've been eating that . Or maybe I'm projecting my own reaction. Still, as everyone knows, PETA is beyond batshit insane, and pretty much everything they say is deceptive if not outright lying (or just stupid, e.g. renaming seahorses to "sea-kittens" to make them "cute"), but their factory-farm gross-out videos and images are pretty much accurate so far as I've seen. Shit's so bad PETA couldn't even exaggerate it or spin it into something worse. I'm sure they probably tried.
Yes, because all of a sudden (in evolutionary terms) a species of Omnivores that have been eating their natural mux of plant and animal matter will suddenly change their minds about it and look at their own natures with disgust.
How, exactly, does secular reasoning result in veganism?
"It's unnecessary"
First-world problems right there. A large percentage of the world's population only has access to one protein source - meat. Leaving out protein in the diet does something bad, but I can't remember what... Oh, yeah! IT KILLS YOU.
Veganism requires the slaughter of wildlife to maintain. :/ These people don't get it, sustainable farming practices require at least cattle to create. And modern agriculture has created two of the dirtiest, land and water consuming crops on the market: Soy and Rice. Cornerstone crops to a vegan lifestyle.
There is a lot to fix about agriculture, but going vegan isn't one of them. It requires a globalized system, thousand of oil miles, and the destruction of wildlife to maintain a vegan culture. Where as a diet of local meat and produce means a person can remain healthy without supplements on less oil miles with minimal to no destruction of wildlife (if the proper methods are used).
We have a no till farmer who can produce giant sweet potatoes and a local beef farmer that produces amazing and cheap grass fed beef.
I've noticed Vegans are very much against real discussions about food. Namely food security and environmental impact in favor of emotionally driven crying about the feelings of animals that would be killed anyway if they had no purpose as food.
Confused?
