Hmmm, let me take a stab at it.

So basically it's \"us\" against \"them\" and since \"you\" are the majority/the ones in power \"you\" get to decide to or not to reconize Human beings as fellow citizens who therefore should have the same rights as everyone else? Interesting...So, if \"they\" became the majority/the ones in power you wouldn't mind them not reconizing your right to be married to someone of the opposite sex? After all it's a violation of one's rights to legally allow someone else to have equal rights, right?

To be honest, the only forceful thing is that those who oppose it are being trying to be forced by law to recognise it. That's what would happen wouldn't it. We would have no legal choice correct.
How do you force somebody to recognize someone else's marriage? Do you serve papers on them if they don't bring a wedding gift? It isn't about gays forcing \"you\" to do anything. It's about \"you\" forcing gays to live as second class citizens.

Ok. It looks like he makes two assanine, illucid, and horribly obfuscated points.
(1) Some liberals think that going with the fundy definition of marriage will de-gay the gay. I agree with the fundy that the idea is silly. But why the fuck did he fucking make it up?!
(2) The only ones being fascist dicks are the liberals, in forcing their damn tolerance on everyone again.
After all, the fundy right to deny rights to others is a paramount right, supplanting even those rights enumerated in the constitution!

No you illiterate fuckwad, you would not be \"forced to recognize\" anything. You can stick your fingers in your ears and scream \"La la la, no gays are married! I can't hear you!\" all you want. You don't have to go to weddings, send cards, or invite gay couples to your house. They probably don't want to go to your house anyway.
All you have to do is shut up and let them live their lives, while you live yours--in blissful, bigoted ignorance, if that's what you really want--and the world will keep turning.

No, churches would *NOT* be forced to recognize same-sex marriage. Gays would probably wind up having to get a civil ceremony (or perhaps go to the Episcopalians), but the point is that the law would recognize them and confer the *LEGAL* benefits of marriage on them.

No legal choice to do what? To grant equal rights to gays? Equal rights to visit adopted children in hospital and share insurance and tax benefits that straight couples take for granted? What a wanker.
\"Fred Phelps Wannabe\" award, maybe?

As soon as the bill is passed your Pit Bull will be traded in for a pair of miniature poodles namedLord Byron and Lady Jane Seymour. Your manly flannel shirts will all become pink or lavender ruffled tuxedo shirts. You'll develop a lisp. Your wife will start dressing in leather and roll a pack of cigarettes in the sleeve of her tee shirt. She'll run off with the checker from the local supermarket, and you'll have this passionate desire to become a hairdresser and date the mailman. DUMBFUCK

Gays have had the right to marry in Canada for nearly a year now. My wife and I just celebrated our 19th anniversary last week.
I related these two seemingly separate events because fundies are fond of saying that allowing gays the right to marry will somehow denigrate their own heterosexual marriage.
My wife and I don't feel any less married now than we did 19 years ago.
Americans are fairly unique in the Western world for their reticence in recognizing equal rights for gays. As far as I can tell, most if not all of the arguments against equal rights are of a religious nature.
Your founding fathers drafted your Constitution the way they did to exclude religion from the debate in the first place.
Religion has no place in any intelligent discussion about equal rights, particularly since fundies actually cherish inequality within their own heterosexual relationships.

\"Religion has no place in any intelligent discussion about equal rights, particularly since fundies actually cherish inequality within their own heterosexual relationships.\"
i would like to thank you...that quote made me realize why conservatives oppose gay marriage...it is a matter of equal rights and destruction of straight marriage...
to most fundies...marriage is an arrangment built upon inequality...the woman is subservient to the man by simple virtue of the fact that he is the man...in gay marriage there isn't that inherant gender-based dominance...gay marriage threatens straight marriage because women might see a relationship where both partners are equal and would want that same equality...then they'd leave their fundie husbands..thus raising the divorce rate and destroying the institution of straight marriage...
does this sound like a workable rationale to anyone else?...did i really just figure out the secret non-jesus reason why they oppose gay marriage?

That's the non-secret non-Jesus argument. The secret reason is probably much more along the lines of mtsbspidey's response, but they can't tell us that one because it's secret.

This is the same arguement that these folks made against inter-racial marriage. Its against (their interpretation) of the Bible. Its unnatural and besides, we don't like it so don't make me recognize the right of a black person and a white person to marry. Same shit, different decade.

Oh no, they're forcing you to recognise the existence of gays. Damn liberals, oppressing everyone with their equality. If you deny it enough maybe they'll start to like women again, just like Jesus said it should be.
