God is love, but he also is just. He responds to every error with destructive punishment -- upon the sinner or upon Christ as substitute for those who believe.

If you don't, God will destroy you.

Wow. Sounds like he's really a just guy to me.
Y'know, Stalin had a way of killing people that didn't agree with him too. But Stalin didn't kill quite as many people as it is claimed God did, so I suppose that's why God's a little more holy than Stalin, eh?
God is Love because he responds to every error (no matter how insignificant) with destructive punishment, but if you believe in him, he'll torture his own son instead of you. If you don't believe in him, he'll torture you AND destroy you.
I don't see any justice in that. Sounds more like God is Hate. No wonder fundies are so fucked up; they worship an evil monster and they're too frightened to stop.
So... let's say I really hate Jesus a lot. So, I just have to become a Christian and profess belief, and then when I go kill a bunch of people, Jesus gets a whippin' instead of me.
Coolness.
"God is love,"
There is no evidence to support that assertion.
"but he also is just."
Similarly, there is no evidence to support that assertion either.
"He responds to every error with destructive punishment -- upon the sinner or upon Christ as substitute for those who believe."
So, "God" the Father, punishes every transgression from any of his special, created-in-his-own-image creations with destructive vengence? And, this destruction is vented either on the "sinner" or on "God's" innocent son? Why would such a god be worthy of worship?

God is love, but will kill you if you disagree, or fail to properly felate him, or genuflect improperly or breathe. God may or may not be love, but your version of God is fucked.
God is love
If you define "god" as "the emotion of love" or "the series of chemical reactions and electrical impluses that cause the emotion of love," then I'm a theist. I don't see what the point is, though.
but he also is just.
Oh, so you're defining "god" as a being who is loveing , not as the feeling of love. (*takes back "theist" remark*) You also define your god as just. I'm guessing you mean the Christian god, based on the forum you're posting in.
He responds to every error with destructive punishment -- upon the sinner...
I'm a strong atheist towards this god. The being you've described cannot exist because he/she/it holds two mutually exclusive traits; "just" and "punishes for every error, however small."
...or upon Christ as substitute for those who believe.
Maybe that's why we can't find Jesus! If he gets beaten for Christians' sins, he'd be far to bloody to recognize by now! Assuming God ressurects him every time he dies, we'd still be unable to recognize him; the moment he rises again, he'd be beaten beyond all recognition.
Let's all tell the Christians that:
1. If you want to find Jesus (and have him intact enough to recognize), then stop sinning.
2. You're a bit late for the Second Coming; based on the severity of God's punishment and the vastness of Christian sin, I'd estimate that Jesus has been ressurected (((10^5000000000)^2000000000000)^650000000000)^200000000000 times.
Why should I believe what you say is true?
If you don't, God will destroy you.
Well, I define "god" as "Maronan Saretene and/or His Author." Obey me, or I'll destroy you !
For future reference, please keep in mind that death threats do not replace a rational argument. Fear is a poor reason to believe something.
JohnRaptor "Appeal to authority fallacy"
More of an Appeal to Force fallacy, i.e. believe what I say or I (or god) will hurt you.
No, if there was any evidence that God had some intention of destroying me for not believing, then it would be an appeal to force. But first he implicity made an appeal to authority to validate the appeal to force. An undefiled appeal to force would be, "If you don't, I will burn you at the stake."
<<< or upon Christ as substitute for those who believe. >>>
That ain't justice. Punishing the innocent in place of the guilty is, in fact, about as far from justice as you can get (even if the innocent person wants it that way).
<<< If you don't, God will destroy you. >>>
And thus you eliminate both justice *and* love from the equation.
Confused?
