One cannot be compelled to believe something. People believe all sorts of ridiculous things, but no sincere belief is attained by way of threats.

Punishment without correction. Great idea. They used to do that in prisons until very recently - what you got out the other end was not reformed citizens, but just the same criminals, with more muscles from breaking all those rocks.

Belief by coercion is at best feigned and at worst brainwashing. Neither constitutes coming to a particular genuinely held viewpoint by free will.

the \"if you don't...\" argument is best used by parents making their children clean messy bedrooms.
in the mouth of a divine entity it seems a little... petty.

Wouldn't we all be shocked and dismayed if just once, a fundie admitted there is no proof of any of this crap outside the Babble?

So then, if you are, as a spirit, sentient and capable of the same pain and free thought, why can't you look at God at the pearly gates and go "Shit. Sorry man. I guess I was wrong." If you can pull a death-bed repentance, why not one as a spirit? Why can Jesus not save you after the fact? I mean it seems rather callous to just throw people into the furnace because they don't read the evidence (or lack thereof) the right way.

*laughs* If that's God's reasoning, we humans have a far better criminal justice system. We're also far more merciful. I'd say that makes humanity, y'know, *better* than your disgusting excuse for a monotheistic deity.
Thank my God and his lesser deities and angels that I don't believe in yours.
