Quote# 13111

There is a newage store here in town. It is a book store I went in there
one day and you could feel the evil in that place. The woman just stared
at me. I think she knew that the spirit in me was not the same spirit that was in her and in that place. This is a very small town and I have been praying for that store to close its doors. It is leading so many down the wrong path.

Keep it up with the condescending attitude and you'll get even more people staring at you.

Reading the rest of that thread blew out my irony meter. I should have expected nothing less from those people.

this is the most fantastic thing I've ever read. I look forward to the whole thread with morbid fascination.

From later in the thread:

\"But as we all know, we have all checked out the Bible , we have all checked out the history the facts, we have gone into all area's of this book & after lots of study & by this I mean years of study. We have come to the conclusion that we have, that the Bible is the one true word of God & all that it has within it's pages is the truth. We have gone through lots of secular studies & teachings, secular history we have checked & checked. So who are the real educated free thinkers in all of this.\"

I teach in a church school. I have daily contact with many, many hard-core, die-hard Christians, many of whom are very old-school conservative.

VERY few of them have done anything this poster claims. One of my favorite things is to lure them into making inaccurate statements about the Bible, then pointing it out to them. They just kind of stare at you like a deer in the headlights.

The average American Christian, in my experience, simply believes what other \"experts\" tell them and do little or no research or thinking for themselves. And the number of times the \"experts\" are wrong, misguided, or simply making shit up as they go along is remarkable.

She probably thought you were shoplifting, you moron.

Or maybe your Jeebus shirt and WWJD bracelet and the God Rock coming through your Ipod was enough to weird her out.

I wonder who beliefs that. I doubt all those people at RR have studied the bible for years (and to find out that it is the \"ultimate truth\")

And what is it with the fish pointing \"the wrong way\"? Do they even know why it is a symbol used by christians? The only reason it points in one direction and not the other is because of tradition, there is no divinity in the symbol at al.

People tend to look at you funny when the first thing you say upon walking in is \"Jesus will kill all you Satanists!!!\"

If you didn't like the place then why the fuck did you go in there? I don't like churches so I don't go in them. I don't walk into them and give people the finger.

It's more likely that she saw that you were batshit insane and wanted to get a head start on dialing 911

Non-Christian books! We must burn them!

It hurts my soul a little that they refuse to read stuff in a \"heathen's\" bookstore. They're missing so much.

Oh no, newage store, right here in River City! Lock up the kids, hide the women folk, circle up the wagons!

She could have been tipped off by the cross nacklace, the WWJD wrist band and the Bible in your upraised hand.

If it is such a bad place, why were YOU there?

Sandman -- Absolutely! Few things in the world are accepted more wholly with less knowledge than the Bible. Not only that, but those who accept the Bible as \"the word of God\" often blather on about how much Bible study they have done when it is obvious they have very little knowledge of the Bible; it's history, contents or context.

And I think anyone would stare at a bull in a china shop.

I have been praying for that store to close its doors. Let me guess, you tried that out the front. If this is anything like abortion clinics, phase I involves praying, phase II involves molotov cocktails.

How can it lead 'so many' down the wrong path when you said it is in a 'very small town'?

\"you could feel the evil in that place\"

My mom thought KISS was evil, a mother-in-law who thought a rattlesnake on the side of the road at the beginning of a movie (eastwood western) was evil, no shit. Now that she is on medication she has become much more relaxed. She's still a raving fundy, but she doesn't complain about my skull ring anymore. She even bought me a shirt that has skulls and spiders on it! I was shocked.
Did you really feel the evil, or are you in need of depression medication? Mom in law would of been better years ago if she hadn't been relying on god to 'fix' her.

Praying 0 Science 1.

She stared because she was surprised to see you in a book store that sold more than just bibles. What did you think of the satanic cookbook section?

7/19/2006 7:31:10 AM

Brain_In_A_Jar

I imagine the expression of seething disgust and hatred on your face is what made her stare.

\"It is leading so many down the wrong path.\" There are many paths in life, my friend. When you hide all but one, you steal someone's ability to make decisions for themselves, and thus take away an essential part of their very humanity. A person prevented from making such decisions becomes an automaton, running on rails.

\"I once presided over the trial of a man, whose only 'crime' was to have translated a book that contradicted the holy scripture...the man was burned at the stake.\" - William of Baskerville, The Name of the Rose.

The sad thing is i have seen this before. I doubt the lady would have been staring at her for no reason. Most newage stores actually have christian clientelle (sp?) that are into the angel books they sell or the candles etc. So most newage stores actually see christians. The problem comes when people think it is the debils work and such and try to 'fix' the problem.
