Quote# 133691

Why all the fuss over a game? I will attempt to give you my view of Dungeons and Dragons from the perspective of what the Word of God says.

Corinthians II 2:11 Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.

Now I have never gotten “into” the game, (and I thank my lord and savior for that) I have been around people who have and from what I have researched and have seen its is my conclusion the game teaches witchcraft, demonology, voodoo, necromancy and satanism. There are many more but lets look at just these five and other meanings in their definitions. Those of you who are playing D&D are angry right now and are looking for the mail link to give me a tongue lashing. Before you do I ask, as some ask me to do, just listen for a moment. What we must do is identify certain definitions and then see if in fact this game is contrary to the word of God.

According to Webster what is:

Witchcraft–The use of sorcery or magic.
Sorcery– The use of power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits.
Demonology– the study of demons or evil spirits
Voodoo– One who deals in spells and necromancy
Necromancy– Conjuration of the spirits of the dead for purposes of magically revealing the future or changing the course of events.
Magic– The use of means (as charms or spells) believed to have supernatural power over natural forces.
Satanism– obsession with or affinity for evil
Now let us look at some of the characters from which a player can choose. And keep in mind Mr. Gygax admits these are derived from mythology.

Mythology– The myths dealing with gods, demi-gods and legendary heroes involving supernatural events.
Dwarf– a small legendary manlike being.
Elf– a small often mischievous fairy. a small lively creature; also mischievous or malicious person.
Gnome– an ageless and often deformed dwarf of folklore who lives in the earth and usually guards treasure.
Half-elf, Halfling, Half-orc– There are no definitions in the dictionary for these three creatures and I admit I do not know what they are. However from what I know of mythology they are somewhat like the above. Perhaps Half elf, half human etc….

Now the occupations the player can choose. There are many but lets use these.

Cleric– Wears armor, has weapons and can do spells and heal wounds.
Druid– Cleric of nature with powers over plants and animals
Ranger– Woodsman with magical abilities.
Magic user– no need to explain this one is there
Illusionists– magic user
Thief– does this one need explaining?

Now the object of the game.

Players try to build up personal power and wealth. They have to penetrate the dungeon or the maze that the dungeon master has created. This game has no cards, boards or play money. It is played in the mind and mapped out on paper. The motivation is greed and you can do what ever you have to do to outwit and win. If it means to steal, rape, assassinate, trick or kill then so be it. You cast spells, hexes or curses on the other players monsters to help over come them. Players also have the ability to reincarnate their dead characters and the ability to gain information by contacting the spirit world. (just a tad of new age there) The game also uses occult emblems. See Signs and Symbols

So what is the problem with all of this?
Well if this were only a game to play like football, baseball ect.. there would be no problem. Most games are played on a field or board. Here lies the problem. This and games like it are in the field of the mind which is a very fragile thing when the wrong things are pumped into it. In order to master this game you need to take on characteristics of what you are playing. Most of the time you act out what is in you, your fantasies or imagination. Lets look at what God has to say about these things.

Concerning your fantasy’s or imagination
2nd Corinthians 10:3,4,5 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Concerning the witchcraft and other things listed
1st Samuel 15:23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Deuteronomy 18:10 ,11,12 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

Galatians 5:19 ,20,21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envying, murders, drunkenness, reveling, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

What you think you become. If all this garbage gets in you mind you can not think in a rational way. What you have to understand is Satan is the author of all this perversion. The bottom line is he hates your guts because we are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). There is a battle for your soul and it is not a battle of the flesh as we see in 2 Cor. 10:3,4,5. Now, if Satan can get you to reject Gods word and keep you from this knowledge that you have just read, then he has you right where he wants you.

So much more can be said here and I am not going to dig more deeply. More things can be listed but what is the point. This has just taken the tip of the “ice berg” and from just what is shown any rational person (God Fearing) can see this game is demonic.

As I stated at the beginning this is my God inspired view by his Holy word. I would advise you to do your own research into what Mr. Gygax has created here.

Is he in contact with some supernatural force? I do not know…..but God does!!!!!

Yes, you just described d&d elves as the santa ones... That alone is enough to just laugh you all the way back to the eighties where you belong.

@Wikipedia on Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition, released in 1987:
Character classes are organized into four groups: warrior (fighter, paladin, ranger), wizard (mage, specialist wizard), priest (cleric, druid), and rogue (thief, bard). Assassins and monks were removed from the game as character classes, "magic-users" are renamed "mages", illusionists are made into a subtype of the wizard class, along with new classes specializing in the other schools of magic.

Your knowledge of DnD is thirty years out of date.

The only member of my family that believes in god is the one that played D&D as a kid.

This just in. Ozzy Osborne is a Satanist, 'I Dream of Jeannie' is a gateway to the occult and the 'uh' sound at the end of each of Rob Halford's lines caused two lads to top themselves.

I never knew why fundies were so opposed to DnD. I mean, it’s one of the best ways known to stop kids from having sex. You’d think they’d be fans for that reason.

Ah, bullshit.

The game doesn't TEACH witchcraft, necromancy, or any other magic tradition. A spell description will say that a spell needs words to be spoken but won't even try to tell you what those words are.

If i were creating a recruiting game for Satan, I'd have put down the actual spells i thot would work, with the complete details to bring forth The Dark Master AND his more useful minions.

If nothing else, a way to summon Asfodiin, the imp who gives you the right answers during a psyche eval...

This is really old stuff. The bloke behind Exposing Satanism is named Jon Watkins and lived at the time in Texas City, TX. A Whois search will show this.

He used to have a really 90s throwback sight with the background a tile layout of "King Jesus" over and over again.

According to Deuteronomy 15-22 someone with magic powers whose predictions come true is a prophet. So the Bible is not really against magic and more against false prophets. As long as the Dungeon Master treats the magicians as such there isn't any godless influence in the game at all. Not that a brain like that of you would comprehend that anyways.

Yeah, this bunch definitely looks Satanic to me.

Keep chewing the gristle of your insanitiy, Fundies!

Swede

Tl:dr.

Why all the fuss over a NFL game, then? Who cares who kneeled or stod, right?
Well, except for the ones who felt guilty of violence against people of color...

Feeling guilty is apparently a powerful trigger. Here in Sweden we have had a lot of very poor Roma people begging outside of grocery stores for a couple of years. How could you ever get worked up AGAINST people so extremely poor that sitting on the ground in northern winter cold and rain, begging for pennies, being spitted on and having liquids pored onto you, is preferable to be at home in warmer Romania or Bulgaria with your kids?

What Would Jesus Do?!?

Yet another case for "who gives shit?"

I'm, not a gamer, never was, and never will be and as far as I'm concerned computer games can disappear from the face of the earth without me so much as noticing or caring, but I'm not going to damn them. If people want to waste their time playing them, have fun.

Sit in on a game, sometime. It’s no more innately harmful than when kids pretend to be superheroes, just with actual rules

I never knew why fundies were so opposed to DnD.

It encourages children to use their brains to think up interesting scenarios and requires a certain amount of independent thought. Independent thought is the enemy of all fundies; if they can think, they might question the stupidity of the religion their parents force down their throats...

Hey, dumbass, the eighties called, they want their fad controversy back.

Also,

Elf– a small often mischievous fairy. a small lively creature; also mischievous or malicious person.

Yeah, what Skide said. That's more of a Pixie/Santa Elf than a common fantasy one. Shows that you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Some Christian Anon

My dad is a very devout christian, and has been for a long time. My mom is a very devout christian who converted from... something. (Cursed memory! I think it was a druid belief system? There was spell casting, for sure, or at least that's what she said...)

My dad played D&D for many years. Neither of my parents had ANY issue with it. At all. And I'm sure they would have said something if it did.

So yeah. this is garbage.

How old is this?

First, a lot of groups use maps and grids for combat situations or to keep track of where everyone is or has been, so your objection to the lack of a physical representation is flawed at best.

Second, how the hell do you not understand the concept of "Half"-(insert race here)? It means exactly what it sounds like. Were you dropped on your head as a baby?

Third, perhaps you didn't get to the alignment system when you were doing your "research". Good is a viable (even preferred by some DMs) choice for characters.

Fourth, the greed bit is all in your head. Was Lord of the Rings (one of the things Gygax cites as strong inspiration) about greed? How about the Chronicles of Narnia? Faerie Tales? Classical Mythology? Those are the sources of inspiration. It's high fantasy, numbnuts.

I get the feeling that all of this idiot's research was done third or fourth hand through a mix of rumors and half-assed descriptions.

You want a game of greed, violence, and intrigue, I have been known to run Shadowrun...

@Azereaux

To be fair to the OP, "halfling" is often a sort of catch-all term for Hobbits (or whatever equivalent, non-copyright race a fictional world has), which are a little harder to explain than simple "orcs" or "elves". OP is still dumb as a brick when it comes to fantasy and D&D, but still.

The alignment and greed rant this guy goes on, though, just wow. Personally, I've never seen a party with some sort of Slaaneshi cultist in it; I imagine the DM would just sort of kill off the one asshole of the group who stops to face-rape every opponent they fight.

If Dungeons and Dragons is a Satanic recruitment tool, why are all the demons, devils etc. explicitly "Always [Lawful/Neutral/Chaotic] Evil"?

11/2/2017 10:32:51 AM

Anon-e-moose

My best friend - whom I'll be visiting next week - has a huge collection of RPGs: including "Vampire: The Masquerade", "Werewolf: The Apocalypse": and "Call of Cthulhu".

"Dungeons & Dragons" - which he also has in his collection - as he's a long-time Church of England Christian, is the least of your problems.

Why all the fuss over two id Tech 6-based games? "Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus", o Alt-Shitists?

And since Dr. Samuel Hayden has conquered Hell, knows everything about interdimensional travel, and has in his possession the more-than infinitely powerful Crucible Hellblade artefact/weapon...:

...the potential for id Software to create a "DOOM V", o fundie Christains?!

11/2/2017 6:43:20 PM

NonProphet

This tripe was debunked 30 years ago, ffs. Playing a game based on fiction, with fictional characters using fictional magic in a fictional world, is not the same as casting real spells or murdering real people.
I know you fundies can't differentiate between fantasy & reality (and despise imagination or creativity), but most of us don't have that problem.
