I think, if there is a god, it’s an evil god, like Gozer. And though wizards defeated it a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time ago, its minions have created the various (impotent) faiths left behind. Nothing any Christain prays will stop Gozer, nor any Muslim, nor any Wiccan, Hindu, Shinto, Jew, Norse, Greek, Roman priests…
