But, yes, scientology is just weird. One of the top three strangest beliefs humans have solidified. Atheism and Demon Worship being the other two. Not sure which of the three takes top place. I seem to change my mind too often. But they're certainly the top three.

Not sure which of the three takes top place. I seem to change my mind too often.
Perhaps you should develop some objective criteria rather than pulling this out your ass.

MAGPie

Well, at least he's right that Scientology is weird.

8/30/2006 8:24:59 PM

TDR

Demon worship?

does this presuppose the existence of said demons? If it does, I would challenge the poster's right to define the word \"weird\".

\"Scientology is just weird.\"

Can't argue with that.

David D.G.

The first sentence states an opinion, but it's one I can go along with. After that, though, the post is just a meltdown of irony.

\"But, yes, scientology is just weird. One of the top three strangest beliefs humans have solidified. Atheism and Demon Worship being the other two. Not sure which of the three takes top place. I seem to change my mind too often. But they're certainly the top three.\"

Well lets see:

- Atheism (at least the materialistic atheism that most people seem to fond of) says \"all things and events in the universe are purely product of matter and natural phenomena\".
- Scientology says \"Lord Xenu flew the Thetans across the galaxy in golden DC-8 aircraft, afterward he strapped them to volcanos and killed them with an h-bomb, then the souls of the thetans permeate through our bodies causing low e-meter readings.\"

The guy is sooooo right, its hard to pick which one is the weirdest, tee hee which one to choose, so bizarre lol

Brain_In_A_Jar

\"E-meter\", Yahweh? Call a spade a spade, it's just a lie detector in a fancy box.

McCulloch

Now if udsuna would just focus on why scientology is weird, then he/she would get the covetted mirror award.

8/30/2006 9:14:59 PM

ProperJob

Not even that, Brain_In_A_Jar. I've heard rumour that you can influence the results of e-meters by simply relaxing your grip or squeezing on the 'cans' you hold as they take your readings. At least it would take some modicum of skill and self-control to deceive a lie detector.

Now, about udsuna's post...it's bullshit.

This guy takes the cake for one of the most retarded fundies I've ever debated with. Seriously. That comment doesn't even touch on some of the things he's said. An entire website could be devoted to him.

I would think that atheism should not be classified as a \"belief\". Of course, when talking out of one's ass, many strange things emerge...

Napoleon the Clown

And yet you believe an all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful being created us and set forth rules we could not follow?

Think about that and get back to me.

If he's so retarded, submit his posts, maybe he can defeat JohnR7.

Brain_In_A_Jar

Unsurprising, ProperJob - increasing the pressure on the cans would most likely improve the electical contact and decrease resistivity, which is all that the device measures and is supposed to be affected only by changes such as perspiration and blood flow. I think that's why proper lie detectors have electrodes taped over other parts of the body that can't be directly influenced by the subject's muscles without at least being spotted, the forehead, for example. Not that I'd expect a bunch of religious zealots, who treat it like a magic box, to think about it in such a way as to figure that out!

\"One of the top three strangest beliefs humans have solidified. Atheism and
Demon Worship being the other two.\"

That religion where you get tied to a chair in front of a desk
with a pencil in it - that's atheism, right? Or is it when you
water a pool 9/8 full of dirt and then interview ants?
Cause both of those are really wierd.

Oh, nice one raist. Genius level IQ and more knowlege on religious philosophy, physics and biology than most people could pick up in a lifetime. I am no one's idiot, and I sure as hell don't pull things out of my ass.

But this is hardly an \"objective\" area to have this kind of discussion. That'd require something called neutral ground. Sure as hell not here. Anyone who was objective, intelligent, and open minded would have left this place seconds after seeing it.

And, yes, atheism is odd. You can sit here and say that this vast, complicated reality is nothing more than random chance? That'd be like landing on mars, and finding out the entire core of the planet is a vast supercomputer, complete with a user-friendly operating software and saying it's a natural formation.

Oh, and I don't believe in demons (don't have to be to think worshipping them is idiotic- if you're wrong, you're wrong. But if you're right... you'd be better off being wrong). Not christian at all. In fact, I worship a Goddess, and a Celtic one at that. So \"fundamentalist\" I'm definately not.

\"I seem to change my mind too often.\"

Maybe you could change it to be rational this time.

e-meter? Is that used with an E-Machine? Because I noticed that a friend bought one, and it came with a monitor, keyboard and printer

Whoopdy-fucking-doo. It doesn't change the fact that your arguments are full of holes, that your beliefs are irrational, and that you're a formidable idiot.

8/31/2006 12:17:17 AM

Papabear

S/he must be using some weird Fundie definition of \"weird.\" I agree, Scientology is very weird, and I agree, demon worship is weird. Both of them involve the belief in imaginary beings, but in that, they are no weirder than Xianity.

What's so weird about atheism? Not believing in fairy tale creatures or ridiculous ideas like the trinity is rational, not weird.

8/31/2006 12:26:59 AM

Sandman

Well, he is right about Scientology....

I only said I change my mind about which one's weirdest of the three. That's not indicision, just that they're too close to call conclusively. Then again, can't expect the people dumb enough bring that up to be smart enough to comprehend the distinction.

Yet you don't know that virtually no atheists believe this all came to be by random chance...
