Without Western thought and civilization, whose backbone is Christianity, the world would be a dark place. Islam, liberalism, and Eastern philosophy and civilization have brought nothing good to the world, only evil. They are the forces of regression. They attempt to rob the world of all the progress Western Christianity has brought.
Democrats, of course, laud such religions, philosophies, and civilizations because they want to bring down America and the West.

Oooh! Ooooooooh!
Please let me be the one to tell Al that "liberalism" as he is referring to it, is, in fact, a Western idea! Please? Can I? Pleeeeease?
Can I also be the one to point out that "liberalism," seeing as how it is a desire for change , is really hard to describe as "regressive"...? "Conservatism," being a desire for things to remain the same or...GASP!...return to a previous state, is really easy to describe as "regressive."
Eastern philosophy isn't all that bad, Al. You should read some.
I don't see how Islam and liberalism are even remotely connected, though. Most of the Muslims I know are more socially conservative than liberal, actually.
Islamic societies: Preserved Roman ideas after its collapse, improved on sciences such as medicine and astronomy
Liberalism: Focused mainly on improving the current soceity through progress.
Eastern Philosophy: Daoist respect for nature, Confucian respect for humanity.
Western Christianity: Invaded the Americas and committed genocide, enslaved Africans to do their work, took away rights of people living in the Americas, killed people for not believing in their specific God, persecuted everyone not like them, slowed or even stopped scientfic progress.
Al, I so agree with you!!11!!!!!eleventyone111!!1
Hadanelith: dude, if Jesus walked in to some people's churches and started preaching politics like he did in the first century, well, he'd get about as warm a welcome as he did back then.
Now this is REALLY funny. Because, as any historian could tell you, it wasn't until the West came into contact with Islam that the Renaissance, and therefore "light," came into being. When we were solely "Christian"-influenced, we were living in the Middle Ages.
What utter laughable nonsense.
Al needs to study history. The Greeks and Romans (pagans) had a great amount of knowledge that the western Christian world had lost by the middle ages. The Arabs (muslims) studied this knowledge, resurrected a lot of it, especially in fields like astronomy, mathematics and medicine, and retaught it to the Europeans.
I'm not sure why people are defending Islam, but I'm insulted to be pegged along with it. Arab scholars may have preserved Greek ideas when they conquered places like Alexandria, but to attribute that to Islam, the religion, is nonsense.
Yeah, most of the basic foundations of our society are based on stuff founded by Islam, liberalism and Eastern philosophy and civilisation.
Without Eastern philosophy, you wouldn't thave the number zero. You'd still be using Roman numerals. Without the Chinese, you wouldn't have pasta, ice cream, fireworks, rockets, guns, kites, compasses, paper money etc. etc.
One day, I must ask a physicist to create a wormhole to an alternate Universe where all the things these Fundies hate are gone and shove them there. Then they'd know how good they had it over here.
Yeah, no child labor, universal suffrage, free public education, those are all because of christians........wait, you probably hate those things anyway.
Arab scholars may have preserved Greek ideas when they conquered places like Alexandria, but to attribute that to Islam, the religion, is nonsense.
Notice I was careful to say "Arabs" (who, factually speaking, were Muslims at that time), not "Muslims". I agree that "to attribute that to Islam, the religion, is nonsense", and I don't think I did that.
Al's original point is also nonsense, and for the same reason: he tries to attribute western progress to Christianity, the religion, as opposed to people who happened to be Christians. Galileo was a Christian, and it would be hard to argue that western progress was in any way helped by the fact!
If Jesus preached today as he did then eh would be arrested without charge, held indefinitely and probably tortured. All by people who claim to be his followers.
As for Christianity being the source of our advancement, as others have alreayd said - take a real history course.
(Of course they'll probably claim any history other than their own fantasies is a liberal conspiracy funded by Islamic fundamentalists)
i think you and your views are the reason the word is so messed up. they are just as twisted as those of fundamentalist from all religions. live and let live my boy. america aint so great and good either, its the only country in history to use nuclear wepons in combat and as far as christianity bringing light, what about the years of persecution and genocide it has spawned. religion in my view is what causes racial hatred.
Islam: Brought astrology, algebra, and coffe.
Liberalism: It is said the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution were the most liberal documents at the time.
Easter Philosophy: Daoists respect nature and Buddists seak enlightenment.
Western Civilization: Thought the concept of zero was insane for thousands of years, destroyed the civilizations of anyone who looked different then them, created Jihaddist Muslims through the Crusades, burned anyone who disagreed with them, and brought the first mass extinction ever caused by a single species.
However, Christianity did stop the Roman practices of gladiatorial games (Constantine introduced restrictions, which were increased until Honorius banned it altogether) and abandoning unwanted infants in the street to die of exposure.
I don't think Christianity has kept anything back; if anything, the Church supplied some sort of stability and tried to limit wars between the city-states of Europe after the incredibly destructive fall of Rome. That Arabia retained the knowledge doesn't speak to a superior culture, but to an area less ravaged by barbarian invasions.
Y'know, I'm a liberal Democrat Christian... Am I 'lauding' your religion and civilization?
Also, that one dude you claim to worship? Definitely liberal.
Confused?
