What an ass. He missed the whole point of the story.
He'd probably explode if he Reanimator. Of course, he'd probably explode from some much weaker fare, too; Chuckie, Jason, etc..
Not only was Tolkien christian, he based the cosmology of Middle Earth on christian cosmology. It's not as direct as the Narnia series, but there are numerous parallels: Eru = all powerful creator god, valar and maiar = angels, balrogs (fallen maiar) = demons (fallen angels), Morgoth (another fallen maiar) = Satan (another fallen angel). In short, LotR is at least a very christian friendly, for those with the brains to realize it anyway.
Damn - just had to add this guy's review for "Brain Dead".

OK, so you've seen Lord of the Rings and the umpteen sequels or whatever, so fine. Do you have any idea how Peter Jackson started out before he went "mainstream"? If not, and you have a sense of adventure, watch THIS. And add a strong stomach to that sense of adventure too. This is WAY over the top in the gore department, and it's meant to be that way so it's just ridiculous at some point. A young man (Lionel) lives with his mum in New Zealand, and on a visit to the zoo mum gets bit by a Sumatran Rat Monkey, after which she develops a taste for human flesh, and starts to fall apart. Lionel is in denial of her condition, despite her odd behavior (she eats a German Shepherd, among other things). Things begin to escalate and pretty soon they're out of control. Throw in a kung-fu priest, and slimy relative, a Hispanic girlfriend that really loves him, and the zombie mom really starts to be a problem. Best of all is the lawnmower scene, a cut above all others. Highly recommended, but if Lord of the Rings is more your speed, be prepared to be very shocked that it's by the same guy. In fact, for a real treat, watch it along with "Bad Taste" and "Meet The Feebles", you'll never be the same.
But maybe it's just the first one that is demon-infested. Or maybe it was that specific DVD (movie theater, VHS). I forget, would the demons infest specific DVDs, or just the abstract idea of the Fellowship movie, in whatever format?

Now it'd be just interesting to know whether this was your reaction to Cate Blanchett, or Orlando Bloom?
Personally I suspect the latter, eh, Joe? ;-)
Just because you've got a thing for Gandalf doesn't make him demonic.
I laughed way too hard at that.
Once again, the LOTR, like almost all stories in this genre, is about the fight between good and evil. This is a good thing. The devil doesn't want you to fight evil, remember?
Tolkien was a Christian, I believe his mother converted to Catholicism when he was young and caused a bit of a stir in the family.
Please stop abusing great literature by blaming the devil every time you see something resembling fantasy. Many of these works of literature are abundant in christian imagery and Jesus figures. If you are breaking into a sweat for no reason, I suggest a trip to the doctor.
I'll say what I say to anti-Harry Potterists... if your faith is so weak that it can be shaken by a fictional novel or children's story, you need to re-examine your faith, not blame the story.
Agreed.
If this guy gets shaken by LoTR, then he'd probably go bonkers if he had to deal with the crap I face simply for being Mormon.
You're right. There was something demonic in it. It's called a Balrog, it is a demon of fire and darkness, and it ends up getting it's fat tail kicked by Gandalf.
Now where have I read THAT story before? Evil being gets his ass whooped by a Christ figure...Oh wait, I know! THE BIBLE! You gonna stop reading that now too?
Not only was Tolkien catholic, but LotR is also intended as a metaphor of christian ideas.
Aah! Now I hate LoTR! *kisses female elf goodbye* *is no longer ashamed at having never read the books*
Demonic?
IT'S GOT FREAKING DWARVES, ELVES, AND WIZARDS!!! IT'S FIH-HIH-HIH-HICTION, YOU HIH-HIH-HIH-HICKS!
Going through the changes, dearie? I know how it is; it's awful when those hot flashes hit you unaware.
The demonic in LotR is the power they are fighting AGAINST, silly.
The LotR is a Christian allegory, a warning against war as an industry, and the usual fight between Good and Evil.
Confused?
