[On atheist morality]Why do you want a relationship when you could have a bunch of different women, thus passing on your DNA more effectively? Along those lines, why not just rape women if you can get away with it?

Why do you want a relationship when you could have a bunch of different women, thus passing on your DNA more effectively? A bunch of different women? Do you mean like ... oh, I don't know ... 700 wives and 300 concubines? That would seem to count as "a bunch of different women."
Along those lines, why not just rape women if you can get away with it? You're in luck, pal. The Old Testament, that perfect guide to morality, does let you get away with it under certain circumstances.
Because... rape causes vast amounts of suffering, for the victim, their family and friends, and for your own family and friends when they find what you've done?
And... if you found out for certain that God didn't exist, you'd rape people? *stays well clear*
Desire to assure that the children that you do have are successful for the former, basic human empathy for the latter. I'm sure that since such ideas as rape being bad and desire to see your children happy aren't written explicitly in the Bible that such motivations would never occur to you. Poor little thing.

In the olden days with much higher mortality rates it would make at least some sense, but in the 21st century, simply passing on your DNA isn't enough; there's that matter of quality-over-quantity. One would rather make 2 successful, productive and psychologically well-balanced babies, than 12 failures who would go online thinking only God is what keeps men from raping women.
why not just rape women if you can get away with it?
Ever heard of this guy called "Conscience"? I fear that if I dared to do any such thing as defiling another human being's honor, this Conscience fellow would tear my very mind asunder. I have been beaten up by him in the past over minor offences, and one of the things I've learned is that he runs a lot faster than me.
I would like a relationship because I enjoy emotional intimacy as well as physical intimacy, and whilst the latter can be acquired in many ways (most quite expensive) the former is much rarer. Certainly, neither can be acquired through rape since rape involves dominating and abusing someone against their will.
tl;dr? I want a relationship because I like the idea, and I wouldn't rape someone because I don't like the idea. Enough said.
1) Couplings not a construct of your God, it a construct of society. Proof: Marriage occurs all over the world, further back than any religion
2) Companionship is also sought after, naturally by both sexes. We are all products of home and homefires and ultimately the village (Society) We're social animals like most mammals
3) Having children isn't the end game. Raising them within your values, identity and skills is. Children were part of the work force that increased prosperity, you eventually benefit from them and your lifes work is their benefit
Family and extended family trees, property and possesion holdings,
Laws and law enforcement (Rape is a crime of state, even before your Bibles first scrolls)
Societal cooperation (the villiage becomes a network of extended families, coupling within rules of society first, then laws which cement the union )
etc etc
It always the Christian mind that sees the deviant lifestyle as something society or the non-religious would tolerate. Every culture on this planet has developed the values above without a religious base.
The "why can't I rape and kill and steal if there's no God" argument is mostly an American Christian one. Stemming from the fact most Americans know nothing about the rest of the world or it's history. Worse; because many of them believe the rest of the world is a lawless quagmire of filth and deviance especially if their not Christians
Evolution does have something to say about this. If your only concern is passing on your DNA, then you won't mind if the women you impregnate (and the men who care about them) just kill you afterwards. That's fine; you will have fulfilled your biological function.
Once a dick, always a dick?

I think it’s important to point out that as an atheist, i don’t think there’s any god behind YOUR morality, either. It’s merely something that allows groups of humans to live together with the least amount of harm inflicted between us. You pretend it’s from an absolute authority figure, but it’s still, near as i can tell, an attempt to codify our behavior for everyone’s benefit. Well, every man’s benefit. You guys get upset at morals that benefit only women.
But, anyway, a lasting relationship is better for me because i can’t always drive myself to the emergency room. A series of lovers would be more difficult to get one of them to get a sitter for my DNA legacy and come get me. And that’s assuming i can reach the phone.

I don’t want to. Seriously, in the last 50 years, i have raped ALL the women i desire to fuck against their will. All none of them.
I find it amusing, really, that my response to accusations of rape would be “i don’t do that to people.”
Whereas the conservative poster child for the future of mankind said that ’she’s not pretty enough for me to rape her.’
Confused?
