I doubt that there are people out there that didn't smoke, then accepted Jesus and then for some reason started to smoke

There probably are, but I doubt Jesus has any direct relation to the smoking.

Hybrid, The Vague
With the constant threat of eternal damnation looming over your shoulder, there'd be a reason to take up smoking. It's different with us, since those guys take the delusion seriously.

Dude, you should try smoking some marijuana instead ;) . Might even get you closer to your pal Jebus...

Except for every single smoker born and raised as a Christian, you mean.
9/27/2006 5:53:06 PM
Of course, many of us still have to watch out for second-hand Christianity.

I'm not seeing the connection.

Sorry, I don't understand. It doesn't seem fundie... just rather confusing and stupid.

No, that only happens when they start trying to debate things like evolution. Then the smoke comes billowing out of their ears.

Only if they are altar boys and enjoy a fag after sex.
Damn. Freudian slip. In GB, by the way, a \"fag\" is a cigarette. I had an American friend visit me once in Inverness and his eyes just dropped out when another friend, a
large friend, asked him in the pub while awaiting word of the birth of his first son, \"You've a fag, mate? I need something to suck on or I'll go crazy waiting.\"

Sure there are, it's just that you have to take your blinders off, WFU...

\"Sorry, I don't understand. It doesn't seem fundie... just rather confusing and stupid.\"
Sure it is. The guy is saying becoming a Born-Again prevents smoking.

Just for the record, I have known at least two people who started smoking long after they had been Bible-thumping fundie Christians for years, as well as many people who were fundie Christians and smoked (without my knowing when they had started), so that profoundly trounces any claim that Christianity somehow prevents smoking.
9/27/2006 7:28:12 PM
WTF????did I miss something?
9/27/2006 7:28:54 PM
Well, at least it's falsifiable. That's a step in the right direction.
9/27/2006 7:38:45 PM
How do the two connect?
9/27/2006 7:43:17 PM
Not that anecdotal evidence matters, but in my life I've found that it is my Atheist friends who don't smoke or are trying to quit. I suppose in lieu of an afterlife, you have to make the most of this one.
Sandman: When I was in the UK I got used to fags. I just couldn't get used to calling a bathroom a \"toilet.\" I suppose fags in the toilet are a real problem for some Americans.

Hi, I'm an atheist, and I'm never going to smoke. I know plenty of Christians that do smoke.
9/27/2006 8:41:49 PM
What would that even prove? Is it essential that Jesus either approve or disapprove of smoking?
9/27/2006 8:58:49 PM
This is just fucking DUMB.
9/27/2006 9:04:31 PM
Well, what´s the correlation?, worse for their lungs, in any case. Or do you asume that there was another prescription for something that didn´t exist?
9/27/2006 9:17:59 PM
I know one.
9/27/2006 10:20:58 PM
YOU GUYS JUST MAKE IT TOO FUCKIN EASY! I am restraining myself, and not saying it. :D
9/27/2006 10:32:29 PM
Are you talking \"On fire for Jesus\" here?
9/27/2006 11:58:57 PM
I confess, with just this quote to go on, WFU comes off as smarter than the person he's responding to.
9/28/2006 12:49:22 AM
I'm sorry. Could you rearrange that sentence?
