I'm an evolutionist, where exactly is my church?
It. Is. In. No. Way. A. Religion.
ToE is merely a provable theory that contridicts to your pathetic attempt to understand the world. How anyone with more then a 6th grade education can be so stubborn and contrary to reality is something I wonder about every day I come to this site.
Genesis is no foundation, it's one of the most UN-believable books of the bible.
I wouldn't say that the bible is CLEAR on homosexuality, when it says something to the effect of 'man lieth with a man as with a woman.' That could really be interpretted a number of ways, and what about women who lieth with women? Why is there homosexual overtones to some passages of the bible?
\"engage in highly creative interpretations of the Bible\"
What the hell? Christians are the ones who do this. Otherwise you couldn't wear two differnt kinds of material at once, or couldn't get your ears pierced. You people pick and choose which rules to follow and which ones to disregard. Otherwise you'd be out in the streets trying to stone homosexuals.
I'm fucking glad if people aren't buying in to the bible, because it's not 'your' bible to begin with. Look into Egyptian, babylonian myths and read the Code Of Hammurbi and you'll find out where YOUR bible got it's start. Remember, \"Only the names have been changed to protect the guilty.\"

Give me any shred of evidence that the Theory of Evolution is a religion. Just because you say so doesn't mean a damned thing.
And considering you promote moral absolutes, your whole post is nothing but lies and slander, which are denounced as sins by the book you worship.
9/28/2006 1:16:55 PM
Evolution is not, never has been, and never will be a religion.
9/28/2006 1:22:45 PM
Ditto those above, and let me add that this conjoining of alleged \"homosexual activism\" and alleged evolution-as-religion is one of the weirdest and stupidest fundie assertions I have seen yet; the logical disconnect is just incredible.
9/28/2006 1:37:57 PM
Sell all you have, and give the proceeds to the poor. Then we'll talk.
9/28/2006 2:19:59 PM
What is this obsession with homosexuality?
Its all gay-this and gay-that. They talk about gay sex more than gays do.
9/28/2006 2:28:36 PM
\"Religion of atheism\" is an oxymoron. You, sir, are a moron. And how one manages to connect the teaching of the ToE with alleged attempts by \"homosexual activists\" to get BS funding cut is beyond me...
Nothing really new, but the stupid is strong with that one (inversely proportional to his grip on reality, I'd say).
9/28/2006 2:45:50 PM
They keep trying to link evolution and religion, as if it was something awful, when it's they who are in a religion.

Wolf O'Donnell (SWHQ)
There are so many oxymorons in that post. I bet there are a lot of morons in that club too.

It is vital that parents understand that evolutionism is really a religion masquerading as science.
By the fundie definition, virtually all human knowledge is \"religion\". They define \"religion\" as anything that involves making any kind of assumption (which they refer to as \"faith\") whatsoever, regardless of whether it requires a higher power or anything supernatural. They keep pushing the idea with the silly hope that they can get the teaching of evolution banned under the First Amendment, which of course is never going to happen.
At its foundation, evolutionism is rooted in the religions of atheism and humanism. Both of these false religions directly challenge the authority of the Bible, and indirectly (often in subtle ways) encourage their believers to substitute the fallible 'wisdom' of men for the infallible true wisdom of our Creator.
It challenges the narrow, literal interpretation of the Bible that has been made by people of certain sects, like Baptists. Most Christians don't see evolution as challenging their religious beliefs.
... they often succeed in convincing many of their students that the moral absolutes of the Bible (i.e. homosexuality is sinful) are not to be believed.
What is the fundie obsession with homosexuality? They treat it like an eleventh commandment. The Bible condemns hundreds of things.
The idea that someone will think they can do anything they want because the Bible isn't 100% literally true is moronic. Religious people don't behave any better or act more morally than atheists.

Worst orator of the month award. I mean, I used to laugh at those conspiracy theories, but this is too much. Evolution a religion?. This guy hallucinates. Besides, the affair of the boy scout story lies on one point. Boy scouts is considered a private organisation and CAN expell homosexuals BUT the companies which are discontinuing their support ARE ALSO PRIVATE. Sorry, but no double standars here for the law.

\"Recent news media reports about fundamentalist activists trying to get taxpayer’s money for the Boy Scouts highlight the need for parents to understand the link between fundamentalism and the teaching of the religion of creationism in the public schools. It is vital that parents understand that creationism is really a religion masquerading as science. At its foundation, creationism is rooted in the religions of Sumeria and Babylonia. Both of these false religions directly challenge the awareness of reality, and indirectly (often in subtle ways) encourage their believers to substitute the myths of long dead empires for the immensely more effective theories of science.
As the priests of ignorance labor diligently in our public schools to indoctrinate our children with their world view, one side-affect of their efforts is that they often succeed in convincing many of their students that the moral absolutes of the Bible (i.e. homosexuality is sinful) somehow exist in physical reality. How do they do this? By attacking the very foundation of science, observable reality. If they can convince their students through their bad science that observable reality is not “real” then they've succeeded in undermining the students basic trust in their common sense. Not all fundamentalists have this as a goal. But intentional or not, this is the often the net affect of the dogmatic teaching of creationism as fact in the public schools. Americans who fall for this deception typically end up on one of three paths in their lives:
1. They engage in highly creative interpretations of the reality to try to make reality somehow 'fit' with the lies of creationism. This then sets a precedent for the twisting of other parts of the reality, including its clear demonstration that science is correct. Once Americans start traveling down this road, it often becomes a slippery slope that leads to all kinds of other gross misinterpretations of reality. Now, their intelligence which is the most effective tool in dealing with the problems of life, becomes a dull tool. They may still be intelligent but they're less effective (sometimes to a very great degree).
2. They abandon reality altogether. This is becoming more and more a trend with young people who have been indoctrinated in creationism for many years in fundamentalist controlled school systems.
3. They initially are 'believers' in science, but later become concerned about what seems to be irreconcilable differences between reality and creationist myths. This concern causes them to investigate further by getting the opposing views to reality. Those who do this with an damaged sense of reality often discover the creationist lies fit neatly into the previously presented myth and that observable reality is an evil plan to discredit their comforting myth.. This then can lead to an improper understanding of just about everything, from esoteric physics to basic electricity. It can also completely eliminate the need to think, because now the plain reading of an ancient creation myth is readily understood to be the truth.

You know what the very worst part is? Somewhere, somehow, a Fundie parent read this and believed it; now, their kid is screwed.

Prince Macho Belly
I think these people believe that gay people want to fuck monkeys, or some other crazy shit. Although, thinking back, I do remember a guy in elementary school who thought Davy Jones looked really good. Hmm....

This asshole lost me after the first paragraph.
At its foundation, evolutionism is rooted in the religions of atheism and humanism.
Neither one of which is a religion, moron.
Both of these false religions directly challenge the authority of the Bible, and indirectly (often in subtle ways) encourage their believers to substitute the fallible 'wisdom' of men for the infallible true wisdom of our Creator.
I've read the Bible. I saw no evidence of any wisdom, godly or otherwise. It most certainly isn't \"infallible\". In fact, it's the most \"fallible\" thing I've ever read.
9/28/2006 5:18:45 PM
I just can't fathom this idiocy where uber-religious folks just cannot get it into their head that NOT EVERYTHING IS A RELIGION OF SOME SORT. It seriously boggles my mind that one can not tell the difference between a RELIGION and a SCIENTIFIC THEORY.
ETA: And WHAT THE FRACK is with all this \"humanism is bad\" shit? IF YOU ARE HUMAN, YOU ARE PROBABLY A HUMANIST, YOU MORON.
9/28/2006 7:25:25 PM
...I'm sorry, but what? Genesis is the foundation of the Bible? What? A serialization of popular myths about the emergence of Israel, thousands of years after the fact? What?
The Book of Job was probably the first written work, but even then there was this guy who kinda invalidated the entire religious writings to date. The people who followed Genesis didn't like what he had to say and put him to death, but a small cadre of believers spread the word from there.
Geez. And even at its _worst_, the Bible portrays homosexuality as a symptom of, rather than a cause of, corrupted morality. Trying to cure society by getting rid of it makes about as much sense as treating leprosy with band-aids.
9/28/2006 8:25:25 PM
Priests of evolution? Shut the fuck up. Do any of you dorks EVER read anything at all? Including your precious bible?
I didn't think so.
9/28/2006 8:59:01 PM
These people can't say \"Good mornintg\" to one another without mentioning homosexuality. Oh, and there's no such thing as \"evolutionism.\"
9/29/2006 12:15:54 AM
You call it \"moral relativism,\" I call it \"moral reality.\"
Morality is not, nor has it ever been, a \"one-size-fits-all\" garment. There are certain things that many of us have in common when it comes to morality, like, say, \"murder is wrong.\" But there are those who would dispute that. The Thuggee Cult of turn of the century India believed that murder was not only allowable, but required of them by their god. Now I'm fairly certain no one reading this is going to be siding with the Thuggees on the whole murder issue, but we have to acknowledge that the other side does in fact exist. Not every culture aligns itself along the same moral compass.
If you look hard enough, you will find an exception to nearly any moral code. There have been cultures that value lying. Cultures that believe sexual promiscuity is proper. Cultures that embrace homosexuality as acceptable. Cultures that allow murder, rape, incest, theft, and just about anything else you can think of. I am not necessarily advocating these moral perspectives, merely pointing out that they do, in fact, exist.
Morality is a human construct. Humans invented it. Humans enforce it. To pretend that moral absolutes were handed down by God in the form of a much-translated and altered book is pure nonsense. To believe that you, personally, are in possesstion of ultimate and absolute truth is the height of human arrogance. To believe you have the right to enforce that \"truth\" on all humanity \"for their own good\" is unbelievable hubris.
There is no such thing as a moral absolute, merely a communal agreement as to what is, and is not, \"moral.\"
