Quote# 15480

(dont compare being gay to commiting a felony it's not the same they do not do anything wrong in the eyes of the government they are really good people usually so why should the government deny the marriage and dont base your awnser on some religious reason because are country is not based on christianity)

You completely missed my point with the felony thing. My father can't vote, therefore gay people have more rights than him. I was comparing the two to say that gay people have more human rights than felons do, and felons are the only citizens in this country to not have all of their rights. I'mnot saying gay people are like felons, try looking in between the lines dude. The country actually was based on religion, when Christopher Columbus came over because they wanted freedom of religion... I never said that our country was founded on anything... BUT we should deny gay marriage because it is a union between a man and a woman, it says so in the Bible. If you choose to be gay, you are also choosing a lifestyle, one that this country doesn't allow marriage or adoption.

What a mess of non-sequiturs. You couldn't do better if you deliberately tried to write a paragraph of assertions which have nothing to do with each other. Oh, and some of it's dead wrong too.

'Christopher Columbus came over because they wanted freedom of religion'

Columbus was a Puritan now?

Your capacity of argumentation is amazing. Christopher Columbus NEVER came looking for freedom of religion. So, historic revisionism aside, are there, please, any other reasons to ban it apart from the Bible?, because, you know, the first amendment is clear on that. Second, if your father can´t vote there are a serious of reasons why people are denied that right. Sorry, but if you think that gays are inferior to him just because he´s straight, you´re missing the point.

First of all, Christopher Columbus never landed in the United States. Second of all, you're an idiot. Third of all, even if a certain group came to America to practice a sect of Christian beliefs they do not represent the entire population. When the United States was formed the majority of the population wasn't remotely religious. You're more than welcomed to pick up a book for once in your life and learn why that was.

Christopher Columbus was searching for China, you idjit. Now John Winthrop, almost 1 and a half centuries later: HE was looking for religious freedom...

Wolf O'Donnell (SWHQ)

Christopher Columbus was searching for a new route to the East, because the Ottoman Empire was blocking the Silk Route or something along those lines. It had nothing to do with religion, but economics.

Freedom of religion also means freedom from religion. You first argued that America is based on freedom of religion. You then state that gay people can't marry because it's against the Bible.

Well, isn't that forcing gays to abide by Christian rules, which goes against freedom of religion?

Idiot.

When people like this talk about \"freedom of religion\", what they actually mean is the compulsory practice of their religion to the exclusion of all others.

Honey, let me explain this slowly for you. Your dad made a choice to commit a crime. That choice had consequences. I did not choose to be attracted to other women. Therefore, there is no reason for me to not have the same rights as everyone else. Plus, the two aren't really analogous.

Christopher Columbus, hmmmm... Wasn't he that dude that lost that colony somewhere in Roanoke. When he came back to America, he then founded Salem, Massachusetts! All this happened because the Inquisition kicked him out of Spain for demanding freedom of religion!

Columbus was looking to open a new trade route to China and India you twit. He could have given a rat's ass about religion.

Man I would love to respons to this over on the site, but I just can not take the Myspace boards. Everyone just quotes the ENTIRE GODDAMN THREAD in their replies. Have they never heard of editing and just quoting the specific statement they are responding to? Pretty much every thread over there gets unreadable after about a page.

\"Maria, I must leave Spain and go to find a country where I am free to be a Roman Catholic!\"
\"But, Chris, Spain is a Roman Catholic country, and anyone kicking with the wrong foot is liable to be this week's barbecue special!\"
\"Please, Maria, do not try to understand these complicated subjects. It is well-known women have no brains. I must go West! To China, where a man is free to snap the mackerel all he wants! Pack my kneepads.\"

I'm not saying gay people are like felons, try looking in between the lines dude.

Well, actually, you are. You're offended that gays have more rights than felons; which implies that you think being gay is worse than being a felon.

BUT we should deny gay marriage because it is a union between a man and a woman, it says so in the Bible.

The Bible, the Koran, the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster, etc. have no authority or standing under US law. The Bible doesn't determine our laws. Reread the First Amendment.

If you choose to be gay ...

People don't choose to be gay. Why would they, given the way they're treated? Use some common sense.

Colombus wanted a faster trade route to India you twat. And the country was founded on freedom of religion. That's not the same thing as religion.

In some states felons are denied voting rights as part of their punishment. As being gay is not a crime, your comparison is not valid. Adult, gay citizens have the right to vote unless they become felons.

Christopher Columbus was looking for a trade route to east Asia. The pilgrims were said to be looking for religious freedom. Of course, their idea of religious freedom was the freedom to believe what THEY believed, not necessarily what anyone else believed.

Being gay is not a choice. There is a significant genetic componant to being homosexual.

g-21-lto -- Please don't blame the school. I work in a public high school. I'm certain that no public school in the U.S. is teaching that Columbus came to America for religious freedom. I'm sure Chrissy twisted that up herself. Regardless of GWB's half-baked \"no child left behind\" plan, some kids just refuse to not be left behind.

My father can't vote, therefore gay people have more rights than him.

Daddy broke the law, and that's the penalty he faces. If you violate the rights of others, you have no room to complain when you lose some of yours in return.

The country actually was based on religion, when Christopher Columbus came over

Wrong. Columbus was looking for a way to get to China faster. It has nothing to do with religion. He was interested in making money. I have read that he thought it was possible to find the Garden of Eden. But even if that were true, that has nothing to do with religious freedom. Why do these people never actually study anything before they starting spouting shit?

it says so in the Bible.

But the law of the United States is not based on the Bible. And, for the umpteen-millionth time, being gay is not a choice. So, you lose.

10/1/2006 12:41:50 AM

So...gay people shouldn't have more rights than felons?

Also, Christopher Columbus came to America for freedom of religion?
