Quote# 15490

[H]ow old would a mountain appear, if God created it? A full grown mountain, not a baby mountain, not a youth mountain, not a teen-age mountain? Would it appear one day old to these radiometric tests the day He created it, or would it apprear older?

What kind of gobbleygook is this? This is about as nonsensical a question as I've seen in a while.

But, anyway, if God existed and he created a mountain, I would assume it would appear any age he wanted it to. But since geology doesn't work like that, mountains are formed over many years by different methods. Some are formed rather quickly by volcanic activity while others take millions of years by such methods as continental drift and collision. None of these methods require a god.

Awww, look, Mount Everest and Mont Blanc just had a little baby mountain! Isn't it cute?

It annoys me that this person is presumably my age, but lacks the mind to understand anything that goes on in the real world.
And, to answer the question, of course it would look like the mountain is millions of years old, because that is the way god will test your faith and ultimativly prove all science wrong, because when the findings of geologists disagree with the bible, it is wrong. That teaches geology a lesson!

God could create something to appear any age He chose. The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster uses this argument - the FSM created a false history and planted phony fossils just to keep scientists entertained. Such a possibility would be impossible to disprove.

But it would require Him to create a false history of things that never existed. For example, if he made a supernova 6,000 years ago that appeared 170,000 light years away, then he would be creating the image of an exploding star that never actually exploded or even existed.

So far, there has never been any evidence that anything is hidden. Any time we've assumed God did something, e.g., caused the Plague or destroyed things with lightning, we've found a rational explanation. So far, every indication is that God rewards knowledge, not faith. This is not something the average ignorant fundie wants to believe, since learning about the world is a lot more work than dropping out of high school, working on the loading dock and saying \"I accept Jesus in my heart\".

I asked my good friend Billy the Mountain how old he was, but all he did was laughingly hack up a bunch of boulders and new brown clouds.

I guess I'll go ask a philostopher and see what he says.

yes, God created red and blueshift in light traveling towards and away from the earth. Why? Because he wants people to think that the universe is billions of years old instead of just 6000 years. Makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

Actually, many mountain ranges are born because two tectonic plates are loving each other very much!

Yes, the Earth literally does move!

Unless you believe in a trickster God, it would appear to be zero age (within margin of error). If he would create it with the appearance of age just to try to fool us and then damn those who fell for it, he's unworthy of any sort of worship.

Not only would it appear older, but god would put fossils of transitional forms in this mountain to fool the evil evolutionists.

I believe that the world was created, intact, Last Thursday. All evidence to the contrary was put there by God to test our faith. I also believe that God will destroy the world Next Thursday.
