Also, modern man emerged in the cradle of civilization - Europe, [not] Ethiopia.
There has never been any civilization in Ethiopia that I know of until us Europeans went there, colonized them, fed them, civilized, educated, and tamed them.

Somehow, I think that Stultorum failed his history class. I wonder if he would throw even more of a fit if he knew that civilization came out of the mideast originally, and then spread into Africa faster than it spread to Europe. The Egyptians were busy building pyramids while the Europeans were figuring out how to turn meat brown over fires.
I admit I'm not too familiar with Ethiopia per se , but if he thinks that Africa had nothing but mud huts before 17th-century Europeans came in and took over, I'd like to ask him where the heck he thinks the pyramids came from (not to mention countless megalithic statues, columns, obelisks, and temple walls) -- hardly the work of people who had not been civilized, educated, and "tamed"(!).

Well, the Bible would disagree with you. According to the Bible, the disciple Steven met an Ethiopian Eunuch on the road, spoke with him at great length, and the Ethiopian took Christianity back to his native land with him. When European colonizers arrived in Ethiopia, they found a Christian people, and declined to occupy them. In fact, Ethiopia is the only nation in Africa to escape that particular fate.
If you believe in the Bible, stultorum, you must retract your post. Either that or admit you don't actually believe in the Bible.

So true.
LOL at the idea of Europe having been the cradle of civilization. And how much do you want to guess this guy believes in the Bible , which came out of the Near East?
Oh, and Ethiopia could still kick European ass at the turn of the 20th century. (Namely Italy's.)
Good score by Sandman, except the European powers didn't decline to occupy Ethiopia, they assigned it to Italy, but the Italians got their asses kicked by the Ethiopians. Unfortunately Mussolini later came back to do the job, and Ethiopia has been pretty much in the mire ever since.
China, Mesopotamia, Egypt...any of this ringing a bell? If not, ancient history is a fascinating subject.
<<Papabear, I don't think the question is 'Were you homeschooled?' but 'Were you ever schooled?>>
Thank you. I really do get tired of nonsense like the stuff stultorum spews getting reponses like "He must have been homeschooled..." Of all the homeschooled people I have known (including myself), NONE of them would ever be caught dead spewing bullshit trivia like that.
Homeschooling =/= Fundy education.
FWIIW, Homeschooling seems to be a pretty good deal.
Africa was one of cradles of civilization. But then, they discovered slavery (long before the Europeans showed up).
The worst slavers in history were african. I am sure they are very proud of that when they name thir kids "Shanika" or "Kantwana."
Ethiopia was colonized by fascist Italy for a few years, and I don't think they educated them, unless it was an education in death by mustard gas.
Ethiopians invented thier own form of writing, you know.
The ethiopians were never "tamed", they continued to resist italian rule untill they finaly won in 1942. Ethiopian volunteers then went on to fight in north africa, and a battalion also went to france in 1944.
This proud victory is the culmination of over 5500 years of native ethiopian civilization.
Ethiopians were cultivating coffee and millet as early as 3500bce. Building their own citys, with seperate water and sewage ditches. they had fully functioning centralized government, and formal diplomacy with outside civilizations. all by 2700 bce.
Europe was a primitive backwater untill 1250 ad. it borrowed its civilization from the middle east.
I might have been beaten to this, but...
Ethiopia was one of the few African countries to remain independent up until the 20th century, then it was briefly occupied by Italy under Mussolini.
Well, let's see what I remember from ancient history class.
The first four major civilizations were:
Egyptians - present day Egypt
Sumerians - present day Iraq
Dravians - present day India
Chinese - present day China
And I'm sure you've never heard of the Kingdom of Aksum...which originated around what is now Ethiopia.
Whoops, no Europe.
Genetics strongly suggests that all humanity originated in Africa.
OTOH, this is pretty normal for Freepers.
Confused?
