[On gambling]

World Magazine (a mag like a Christian Newsweek) wrestled with this question once. A Christian somehow won some amount of millions of dollars playing some lottery game in his state. At his press conference he announced that since he was a Christian, he intended to give ten percent to his church. Many churches were delighted with this announcement, seeing it as a real gift & blessing from God & evidence that the dude was being such the wise steward. World Mag said the church should refuse to take it, as "Jesus doesn't build His church on the backs of the poor".

Poor? I thought he won the lottery.

Think Floyd

Hey it looks like we can stop giving the church tax breaks! Then we could afford to solve society`s problems instead of compounding them with ignorance and lies.

Yes he does. Always has.

I think the idea here is that alot of poor people blow their money on the lottery. There are worse sentiments.

Philbert McAdamia

Imagine a church turning down money.

A world where a multi millionaire is considered poor and churches turn down money?

I wanna live there too. How do I get a green card?

The Duelist

World Magazine is one of the most retarded publications in recorded history...

I figured that was the obvious meaning, but a lot of the people here would take "Hurr, I'm Hitler, lol" as a signed confession if they detected the faintest wiff of Christianity about the person.

Yup, many churches still do have a problem with lotteries, since they view gambling as a vice that preys upon the poor.

Mind you, at least as many demand tithes from rich and poor parishioners alike, so it'd be a bit hypocritical if one of the latter were to suddenly refuse to take the money of someone who clearly can afford to do without it.

Jesus doesn't build His church on the backs of the poor

The above links would show you that he does a lot more than just that.

Just like they didn't Tithe the masses, taking 10% of what the people were making, even if they were already just scraping by.

Quantum Mechanic

"Jesus doesn't build His church on the backs of the poor".

Jesus didn't build His church at all, since he never existed.

And World Magazine was instantly excommunicated for going against Republican doctrine.
