Thanks for posting that - I'd forgotten it (then again, it's been donkey's years since I've read the bible and I've no particular wish to pick up the vile tome in the near future...)

It looks to me, according to this, that only absolutely perfect, unblemished individuals are welcome to approach this tyrant deity. So no short or long-sighted people, no-one with a birthmark or even a mole (or freckle?) - which I assume is what 'anything superfluous' would mean, take to the extreme - or a scar of any kind... Isn't that going to exclude, oh, I don't know, 99.9999(however many 9s is appropriate, I don't do numbers)% of everyone? Fundies too?

I will never understand why people would choose to acknowledge such a deity, let alone worship it...

Maybe he´s actually parodying the guys who use the OT in order to justify their hatred for homosexuals. Because, there are no fire and brimstone for both left-handed and vasectomies(which didn´t exist at the time)in the OT.

I'm not left handed, but I did try using my left hand to write when I was younger, just to see what the difference would be (I was a weird kid, I guess.) Lemme tell ya, the hand you write with is NOT a frigging choice, you avatism. Some brains are just wired with left-appendage bias, and overcoming that is next to flipping impossible, without resorting to brain surgery.

I'm guessing you avoid meat on Friday and wear only longskirts too.

Left-handed people can choose to write with their right hand, just as you can choose to write with your left hand. Doesn't work that well, Vera, now does it?

I have now read (or rather skimmed through) Leviticus. It's desperately boring and overwritten. Couldn't God summarize his commandment somewhat? Why go on and on and on about how to burn a sin offering of bull or lamb or dove or goat, when they are basically burned the same way, all of them?

I did find a nice verse though; Leviticus 19:33 "Never mistreat a foreigner living in your land." Guess God is against racism.

Hey, didn't God command Onan to take his brother's wife as his wife? Has God not read Leviticus? 20:21 says they will remain childless.

I can't seem to find the verse about left-handed people, or the one about men who have had a vasectomy. But, as I said, I didn't read it that thoroughly...

I am a little bit older, and I grew up in a conservative part of Europe. As a left-handed person.

Readers of FSTDT, believe me: At school and in public I was treated like "Vera Carp"'s malicious rant describes it. I was seen as not normal. I was forced to write with the right hand. I was hit physically when I tried to do something with the left hand. The bible was thrown in my face to justify this.

"Vera Carp" might be a poe, but this crazy mindset was widespread not very long ago. Please don't forget that. Please keep in mind that fundies will enact what they preach, should they come to power. We must fight that such discrimination will never happen again, be it against coloured people, homosexuals, or left-handed people.

Well you can FORCE a person to use his normal hand... just don't ever expect good hand writing out of him...




(yes I was left-handed but my grandparents "corrected" me so that I now use my right hand to write, I still use my left hand to play tennis though...)
