['If a Christian has a loved on suffering from cancer, or a virus or is in a coma, the Christian will usually pray to God that their loved one be cured or healed. But why is it that hardly any Christians will pray for an amputee's limb to be restored?']
Because the medical people usually do things to prevent regrowth.

Go find a secluded cabin in the woods. Hide yourself in there, then take a rusty knife and saw off all four of your limbs (I'm sure the power of god will help you get that last arm).
Got that? Good. Now, pray to your god that you won't die of blood loss or infection. Pray that your limbs will regrow. There are no "medical people" there to "prevent" this, so let's see if it works.
that's...that's just insane. To believe that the medical establishment is deliberatly preventing the regeneration of lost limbs is taking paranoia to a whole new level. And if God can regrow a limb, how is it that any medical intern can prevent him from accomplishing this? If God can be thwarted by just some guy with a medical degree...then he doesn't seem like much of a God to me.

If God can be thwarted by just some guy with a medical degree...then he doesn't seem like much of a God to me. We already know that the Almighty's almightiness can be thwarted by a dollar's worth of latex, so the Christ-hating evil-utionist doctors can probably come up with something even more imposing.
This is one of the few people on CF who actually piss me off. Her posts read like stories from quackwatch. Medicine is the devil, doctors want you to be sick so they make money, the medical profession conspires to kill people with fake treatments, the whole nine yards.
I honestly hope she never has children because if they get a serious disease they will probably die from lack of real medical care.
Your Bible says "anything is possible with God" and contends that your God is omnipotent. Both of these clearly mean that, if your God was real, he could restore an amputee's missing limb. To state otherwise is to admit that doctors are more powerful than your omnipotent God.

Eris...
If you're alone, you can only hack off three of your own limbs with a knife. Somebody's going to have to get that last arm for the guy.
Any volunteers in the audience? No medical personnel need apply.
Well, Merlin could always build a little limb-guillotine; it shouldn't be too difficult to come up with a way to trigger it even with only one arm left.
Merlin's been stuck in the crystal cave for far too long now; his brain seems to have calcified.
Seriously, this is just a stupendous level of idiocy, one I haven't seen since ... oh, a couple of posts up when I read the latest piece of insanity from Carico. Or dad. Or JohnR7. Or supersport. Or AV1611VET. Sad to say, this degree of craziness isn't nearly as rare as it ought to be.

Okay, this part has to be added:
[hahahahahahahahahahahha hahahahahahahahahahahha
Oh man... that's a good one.]
They do.
The injury (stump) is sealed off, often with a flap of skin.
It's standard procedure.
It would be considered medical malpractice to not treat the injury in this way.
But, having modified the injury also prevents regrowth of the limb.
Can you provide me an example?, by the way, why did so many soldiers in the middle Ages, pirates or just people who have an accident and got their limbs amputated in times WHERE IT WAS MORE FREQUENT BECAUSE MEDICINE WAS NOT AS ADVANCED AS TODAY, didn´t grow up a new limb spontanously, I mean, not being treated medically as today?.
Because the medical people usually do things to prevent regrowth
This doesn't really answer the question, which was "why is it that hardly any Christians will pray for an amputee's limb to be restored?", not "why don't the prayers succeed?".
So tell me Merlin, how many limbs has "grown out" again?
Lets chop off one of your legs and watch Gods "work"; he will stop the bleeding and put on a "new" leg...
...or maybe NOT!
Now, that would be entertainment!
Might be better to give said mind the chance to Believe, and exersize their Faith that GOD did in fact know what He was doing in designing & creating humanity...
I have a friend whose left side doesn't work. Every time we're in the Christian Science Reading Room with a devout healer of that faith, I tell him that God didn't make any imperfect beings (the CS belief), and to hold his left hand out.
So far, no progress. The CS lady still believes her faith is right, even though she can't even get it to work close up.
I smell a conspiracy afoot! Those foul doctors are intent upon leaving defenseless Christians limbless! Odd how you see non-Christan amputees don't regrow their limbs, but those evil doctors, they are indeed quite against Christians! Damn them and their satantic ways!
[/extreme sarcasm/imitation response of Merlin's fellow fundies]
I like debates like this ^_^ Although this guy is hurtfully stupid.
Here's a thought: What if God doesn't heal amputees because it's impossible. He set it up that way. Not that he couldn't overcome that limitation, but he simply choses not to because doing so would provide proof positive of his existence, which I'm pretty sure is one of God's big no nos if he exists (or we would have evidence).
Flaw: Why didn't he set the world up so that humans could regrow limbs?
Possible counters:
Some crap about the fall and punishment.
God expects us to overcome stuff like this (i.e. prosthetics), and gave us that capacity instead of regeneration powers.
And of course you can find flaws in those as well, and probably counters to those.
...not that anyone's reading this.
“Because the medical people usually do things to prevent regrowth.”
If that were true, they’d never heal ANYONE.
I mean, if they have the means to cure and heal, and intentionally prevent restoration, no one would ever survive cancer.
You truly think that God WOULD restore a Christain’s limb if the docs didn’t have something to stop THE ALMIGHTY GOD from doing something? What, do they inject the Essense of Irong Chariots into the stump?
FAR mroe likely, they just never actually see miracles like that. Same way that military chaplains won’t pray for someone to come back alive from a mission, battle or deployment. They HOPE he’ll come back, but acknowledge that they might not, and ask God to reach down and take his sould to Heaven. Covers all their bets wihtout getting screamed at by the family.
Confused?
