Quote# 20027

why exactly do you think thats funny?

[I don't want to tell you, I'll let you get laughed at first.]

Is it becauseyou know that the Sun is the center of the Universe, because thats what everything revolves around and want to hold onto a fleeting idea that maybe just maybe the joke of a congregation you belong to is totally full of crap and when one card in the house you built is removed the whole thing falls?

We all eagerly await your peer-reviewed research paper concerning your idea of a heliocentric universe. What? You have no such paper? Well, I think you should reexamine your assertion on exactly who is \"totally full of crap.\"

Another quote from the same thread on CF. There are some arguing the earth central rubbish and Jacob is arguing against that , and still gets it wrong. Again, the whole thread is just an ass load of ignorance.

The funniest thing is that the whole thread started off as a discussion of FSTDT, started by BigChrisFilm, who was appealing to other like-minded (for lack of a more appropriate term) fundies to come to FSTDT to \"witness\" to all the atheists here (cause we all know that if we question fundamentalism we're god-haters). That sparked a discussion about this site itself and what gets posted, and went on from there to people copping to having been quoted on the site. Some people then got their panties in a knot over \"atheists trying to make us look stupid,\" and others (including JacobHall) pointed out that it's not the atheists making Christians looks stupid, it's Christians making Christians look stupid (I feel sorry, sorta, for JH86 as he doesn't even realize that he's making a good example of this maxim). And someone gave an example, something along the lines of claiming the earth is the center of the universe... and then it all went to hell pretty fast.

I give the OP credit for recognizing, primarily, that fundies are the ones that make themselves look stupid, and it takes no effort on our part to help them along in this endeavor. The worst thing is, in trying to make this point, JH ends up shooting himself in the foot without realizing it. But I think it more exposes a sad lack of science understanding than genuine fundie dogma-spewing in his case. He's salvageable... he seems like he can be taught the error of his thinking, unlike his opponent (RichardT in the original forum) who seems to be a copy of AV1611VET.

You are right that I'm sort of like AV1611VET in that I take the bible as an axiom and work from there. If I have to question anything in the bible, then I have to question the whole bible. To quote Burgon :

I am asked whether I believe the words of the Bible to be inspired,—I answer, To be sure I do,—every one of them: and every syllable likewise. Do not you?—Where,—(if it be a fair question,)—Where do you, in your wisdom, stop? The book, you allow, is inspired. How about the chapters? How about the verses? Do you stop at the verses, and not go on to the words? ... No, Sirs! THE BIBLE (BE PERSUADED) IS THE VERY UTTERANCE OF THE ETERNAL;—AS MUCH GOD’S WORD, AS IF HIGH HEAVEN WERE OPEN, AND WE HEARD GOD SPEAKING TO US WITH HUMAN VOICE. Every book of it, is inspired alike; and is inspired entirely. ... THE BIBLE IS NONE OTHER THAN THE VOICE OF HIM THAT SITTETH UPON THE THRONE! EVERY BOOK OF IT,—EVERY CHAPTER OF IT,—EVERY VERSE OF IT,—EVERY WORD OF IT,—EVERY SYLLABLE OF IT,—(WHERE ARE WE TO STOP?)—EVERY LETTER OF IT—IS THE DIRECT UTTERANCE OF THE MOST HIGH! ... ‘Well spake the Holy Ghost, by the mouth of’ the many blessed Men who wrote it.—The Bible is none other than the Word of God: not some part of it, more, some part of it, less; but all alike, the utterance of Him who sitteth upon the Throne;—absolute,—faultless,—unerring,—supreme! (Sermon III, pp. 75,76,89). -Burgon

“That which distinguishes Sacred Science from every other Science which can be named is that it is Divine, and has to do with a Book which is inspired; that is, whose true Author is God. ... It is chiefly from inattention to this circumstance that misconception prevails in that department of Sacred Science known as ‘Textual Criticism’” (Burgon and Miller, The Traditional Text, p. 9) -Burgon

Don't think that I'm not unwilling to learn, please look at this thread if you need to be convinced any further, I try to find answers wherever I can.

http://www.christianforums.com/t4535327-rate-group-radioactive-decay-finds.html

In this thread that I started I noticed that RATE group found inconsistant radioactive dacaying results between different methods and came to a conclusion based on it, but in the thread it seemed as if RATE was atacked as completely dishonest, to me, if RATE falls, then YEC falls and I would have to come up with a different biblical exegesis.

Just like YEC, as with Geocentricity, I do not know enough of the science just yet to make a definite choice to believe it based on science, which is why if you look at my profile you will see that my origins view is \"no comment\", I have alot more learning to do.

That's one hell of a run-on sentence there...

And the sun doesn't revolve around the universe. There's no center to the universe, really. The sun does orbit the center of the galaxy. But you wouldn't understand the difference between the universe and a galaxy, would you?

Well RichardT, I give you some credit for being open to further instruction. What you have yet to learn is that the concept of the Bible being \"divinely inspired\" is an assumption, an article of faith only. Is it a correct assumption? That's what you have to learn.

richardT, please read your Bible again. If that's the voice of God, then God is dull, dangerous and demented.

JacobHall86, our piddly little solar system is not the universe, nor is our third rate galaxy. Lad, there ain't no center of the universe. Imagine that.

Alright, I'm not even going to try to defend christianity in this environment, getting slurs thrown at you constantly is really not fun. What do you think my impressions are of this site when when I try to get my points accross I get this crap thrown in my face.

The man is right. I dislike Christianity as much as anyone else here, but there's no need to jump on someone's throat the moment they reveal themselves to be Christian, especially if they actually have half a brain.

Actually guys I am against the earth being the center of the Galaxy, because the planets revolve around the sun, not the earth. I mispoke and used the word Universe as opposed to Galaxy. RichardT is the one arguing the Earth is the center of the Galaxy, he is also the one who recommended my quote to be on here. Mostly because hes an asshat Christian. He is wrapped up in his fundie ideals and anyone who doesnt agree with him is wrong, in his mind. Contrary to popular belief, not all Christians are fundies.

No, I believe the earth is the center of the universe, not the galaxy. But I'm not certain of it.

richardT: You are right, and I apologize for my \"synapses\" comment earlier. I'm having a bad day, but that's no excuse for me to be so snide with you; even if nothing else, it's a lousy way to encourage your skepticism. The comment was uncalled for, and I'm sorry, truly.

I'll even forgo the obvious cheap shots that I could make at this comment and simply ask: If you really know how ridiculous it sounds, why on Earth (so to speak) would you make such a claim? How can you claim that the Earth is at the center of the galaxy, when Earth isn't even the center of the Solar system?

And if you now claim that Earth is at the center of the Solar system and that the Sun goes around the Earth instead of vice versa, all I can do is point you toward thousands of astronomers, satellite launchers, space probe handlers -- heck, astronauts -- whose experiences and work every day bear out the heliocentric model of the Solar system without the faintest suggestion otherwise -- indeed, would literally crash completely, every time, if there were anything wrong with that model. It isn't just the fancy mathematics that prove the Earth goes around the Sun; it's the fact that NOTHING done in space science would work as it does if those mathematics were so fundamentally wrong.

Just like YEC, as with Geocentricity, I do not know enough of the science just yet to make a definite choice to believe it based on science,

Just to save you a lot of time, take it from me: there IS NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE for a young earth. There just ain't. Anyone who tells you otherwise is either very ignorant, or has a well-thought out reason for lying to you.

This need not be the end of the world. Millions of Christians accept a 4.5 billion year old earth. You're not going to go to hell for not accepting a 4,000-YO Hebrew creation myth.
