Only if the earlier theory was incomplete or incorrect (and even then it's possible, and indeed likely if the earlier theory has gained enough traction to be considered a theory, that a random bit of evidence will fit with the theory).

So when a theory is proven to be right we must assume it's wrong because proof of something is proof that the something is wrong? Is that what this idiot said?

Oh boohoo, the new evidence should have completely overturned their existing theory. But it doesn't. They should be having to scramble to come up with a new theory to explain the new information for my own beliefs to be valid. Oh woe is me, I want to play, but you just keep winning, that's not fair. Boohoo!
John..., JOHN! Snap out of it dammit! No one likes a crybaby.

Butthurt that more and more gaps are being filled, thus your so-called 'God' who used to be at the centre of the platform that is Human Relevance, and is currently hanging on by his last few fingernails, waiting for the final few gaps to be filled (lol, LHC)? Thus your nonexistent invisible sky pixie will then finally fall into the Abyss of Human
Irrelevance, to join all the other mythical deities of yore.
That day, in which we Atheists will finally be proved to be superior will be an exquisitely sweet one indeed.

"They should be having to scramble to come up with a new theory to explain the new information."
That's how it works, y'see:
Refining theories, based on new evidence. It's how you have a computer to spew your fundie bullshit.
Certainly how they become more & more powerful, almost by the year, if not sooner.
