Quote# 2175

I could say the science is the crutch of the weak. How? Because if you believe in science, you need facts. If it can't be proven, you choose not to believe. Therefore it gives you carte blanche to behave in any way you see fit. In other words, since no one can prove with 100% certainty there is no God, no afterlife, then how I behave on this earth has no real consequence. Sounds pretty convenient if you ask me.

"Therefore it gives you carte blanche to behave in any way you see fit."

I'll take non-sequitor for fish, Alex.

That's a little thing I like to call LIFE.

"then how I behave on this earth has no real consequence".

Define real, please. I don't think it means what you think it does.

The Duelist

What strikes me as convenient is that once God turns *you* into a "Chosen One", and *everyone else* into "godless heathens", you get the carte blanche to behave in any way you want(kill them, rape them, steal their land that God promised to you, deny reality, etc., etc., etc....

If facts are convenient for the other side, you might just be wrong...

"...then how I behave on this earth has no real consequence."

- Actually, that's the evangelical Christian outlook. You know, the one that says you are saved by grace and that god doesn't care what you do as long as you say the magic words before you die. In other words, as an evangelical Christian you have carte blanche permission to behave in any way you see fit. No matter how much pain and turmoil you cause, you'll still be forgiven.

As an atheist, I know this life is all I have. I do not want to spend it in prison, or alienated from potential friends and associates. We call it natural consequences, and it works far better than threats of temper tantrums by supernatural entities.

How is demanding proof for what you believe rather than closing your eyes and charging forward is weak?

Crimson Lizard

Weak, huh?
So says the one afraid to think for themselves.

"then how I behave on this earth has no real consequence"

Just in case you haven't noticed, you don't have this planet to yourself. Everyone that has to live around you will have to deal with the consequences of you thinking your actions have no real consequences. HERE and NOW consequences, not some imaginary consequences in some made-up afterlife.

You REALLY think your actions have no consequences? You seriously think there were no consequences of the terrorists flying the planes on Sept 11? How you behave has some very real consequences, HERE and NOW consequences, regardless of whether or not you believe in some sky-pixie and some imaginary afterlife.

Fucking moron.
