Yeah, like I 'deny' that Santa Claus exists so I don't have to accept that I'm going on his naughty list! Clearly anyone who doesn't believe in Santa CLaus is deceiving themselves so they can continue to be bad boys and girls!

I finally figured out where this belief comes from. There's some passage in Romans that explains that, according to Paul, all people have an innate knowledge of God, and therefore no one can be excused from eternal wrath under the excuse "I didn't know you exist." So to the fundamentalist, an atheist really cannot exist, or at least can't be truthfully professing belief that God does not exist (or denying belief that God does exist), because the Bible tells them "all people know God exists."
It seems that it´s actually you who need desesperatelly for God to exist. Otherwise, if nobody is going to Hell, in which sense are you special?. Besides, if Atheists deny God because they´re afraid to go to Hell, why don´t they try not to go to Hell, to begin with?, to believe in Hell implies to believe in God, so we are in the eternal circle idea again.
Nah, the people who are in denial are people like you. None of you want to accept that some of us genuinely do not believe in your god, or hell, or any of that stuff. If you accepted that, then you might have to examine why you believe in that stuff, and I think you're terrified that it wouldn't hold up. It's easier to condemn and threaten than to really let your faith in god get tested, isn't it?
