[Regarding a study which showed rising HPV rates in girls]

The stinkin sex revolution agendists have brought this problem on our society and now they want to mandate HPV virus innoculation against a parents wishes? Oh, but they'll tell you there is no connection between promiscuity encouragement in schools and the increase in cancer- oh no, it's gottas be sdomething else.

Being a highschooler myself, I feel qualified to make a retort to this.
a.) In elementary school, the extent of our sex ed was to teach us about what exactly was happening with us during puberty. I think if they had not taught me about that and I had just spontaneously started my period, I would have pulled a Carrie White. They NEVER taught us about sex. b.) They don't hand out condoms to us in my school. I wish they did, but they don't. The sex ed in high schools is really, truly lacking -- I had to use the Joy Of The Internet to find out what an orgasm was. c.) THEY DO NOT ENCOURAGE SEX IN OUR HEALTH CLASSES! We are made to recite over and over again, "the only 100% effective form of birth control is abstinence". They had us do an assignment about the top ten reasons we wanted to stay abstinent (which I refused, but that's another story). They don't encourage abortions. So shut up.

I dont know about anyone else, but they never called it "sex ed" in my school. it was called "Health" and we learnt about physical, mental, emotional, and sexual health, which are all equally important.
Some people think that people under the age of 18 are just stupid, and that they cant think for themselves. Some ARE stupid, obviously, but most can think for themselves and can make their own decisions. no matter what a school teaches, some kids will choose to have sex and others will choose not to.
some of these kids will have fundie parents, or parents who dont want to tell their kids the facts of sex and relationships, so by teaching it in school, they arent encouraging people to be sluts, they are teaching them the best, safest and most comfortable way to pursue a relationship or have sex, IF THEY CHOOSE TO.

why do these fundies seem to think that just letting teens know about their own bodies, they are forcing every child to go and have sex??

Didn't learn this until I was in 7th or 8th grade. Failure to know the facts.

Have you ever even been in a classroom where this topic is brought up? The students are always split in opinion, leaning more towards pro-life, in their opinions while the teachers are going "Shut up, it's time to get back on topic." And how can you be a slut before you hit pubrity?

I dunno about you, but I was just taught about puberty, and essentially what to expect when the time came.

Honestly, they should, or at least make them readily accessable. Forgive me, but if a couple of kids, raging on hormoes wanna fuck, they're gonna fuck. At least give them the means to do it safely.

Must've missed that lesson. I was taught that sex is a rather big thing, and to avoid it unless I felt I could handle the emotional impact of it. and even then, if I chose to do it, at least do it safely. Nowhere did I ever hear "screw it if it moves...or if it doesn't move...or if it looks like it might fit in it."

Yes, how dare we think to try and keep the population healthy as opposed to using a potentially fatal virus as a threat to our children...one that CAN be transmitted through non-sexual means too...not to mention, even if it is sexually transmitted, do you really believe in that one strike and you're out mentality? Do you really believe a person deserves to die for a moment of carelessness?

FER CRISSAKES! Everything seems to cause cancer these days, dingbat! To try and pin a cause for these things on any one thing is short sighted, and foolish. Yes, sexual contact has been cited as a contributing factor for cervical cancer, but there are many, many other factors to be examined...one of which being flat out, genetic predisposition. Get your head out of the stone age, and stop condemning your bloodlines to a potential for a dramatically shortened lifetime.

Apparenly, Cottshop knows where they teach the fun sex ed, because I never got it.

Personal anecdote. Take it for whatever it's worth. I received sex education in high school. The teachers were Christian, though probably not by Cott Shop's standards. So were the kids.

We were told up front that the only absolutely certain way to avoid sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy was to avoid sexual contact. Condoms and other forms of contraception could lessen risk, but they contantly stressed that nothing save abstinence would eliminate it altogether. They discussed birth control and their failure rates using data from the state board of health and the CDC, and demonstrated how to use them using props. They were extemely clinical, they didn't encourage promiscuity at all, and unless pictures of asses infested by genital warts and dicks with antibiotic-resistant syph got you hot, it wasn't particularly titillating.

I was also given the same information a lot earlier--at home--by my parents, who also made certain that I knew how to use a prophylactic, and what different methods of birth control could do and what they couldn't. That wasn't a lot of fun either.

It stopped when the school was finally overrun by fundtards. The two loudest ones were basketball coaches who raised a stink, and the class was finally axed. Pregnancy rates and STD rates began to slowly rise.

Gosh, or could it be that telling kids amped up on hormones to just not fuck is at best, ineffective, and at worst, naive to the point of stupidity? And that teaching kids about sex in a safe way when they're young encourages them to actually ask questions about it, rather than treating it as this unapproachable, monolithic thing? Or that giving free condoms (Not like popcorn, like you seem to think, but rather, giving easy access) ensures that while they may not be abstinent, they can at least be safe? And that the quickest, and easiest way to ensure a large amount of teenagers will do something is...wait for this, because it's a doozy...IS TO FUCKING TELL THEM NOT TO! And finally, as has no doubt been mentioned numerous times in this thread, HPV IS NOT SOLELY SPREAD THROUGH SEXUAL CONTACT!

Oh, they'll likely never be able to force your kids to get inoculated against HPV. You just have to deal with the fact that you may have to tell your daughter that, to prevent her from being a filthy whore, you denied her a vaccination that would have prevented her from dying a premature, painful death. Hope you're stronger than me because I know that such a speech, and such knowledge would destroy me...

Or, like, the fact that regions that depend on "abstinence only" education have far higher teen pregnancy or STI rates than those that educate their children properly. It's just our godless morals spilling over, and NOT you guys failing your children on an epic level...right?
