Well, it's finally happened. We have turned our science into a religion and we are copying old habits from old religious traditions.
Global warming has presented our society with a mia culpa that we can exhonorate ourselve from by simply buying our way out via carbon credits should our carbon footprint be too large.
Like the catholic indulences of old, where-in a wealthy sinner could pay for his sins in advance and there-by insure his place in Heaven, our wealthy living in mansions and driving Hummers, can pay for carbon credits obtained from low carbon emitters.
How do you like that?

I insist. Learn to write. Second, Science IS NOT A RELIGION. The droughts, strange summers and winters and so on are the living proof of global warming. And if people are allowed to believe in God, let them believe whatever they´re up to.
Global warming is not a religion. A religion is the belief in one or more gods, and/or that the world was created by an intelligent entity.
I find the carbon credit system to be a weird idea, but if it motivates people, nations, to release less greenhouse gasses in overall, I guess it's a good thing.
How carbon credits work:
Some carbon offsets go to large non-profits who use the pooled money to cap methane and keep it from releasing into the atmosphere, so they're not entirely useless... they're a short-term, delay tactic, but it's better than nothing.
Starts out amazingly stupid and doesn't get much better... but yes, he does have a point on the whole "carbon credit" thing. (Al Gore has lost his credibility with me due to his use of the tactic to justify a goddamn jet.)

Probably seems fundie because of a poor choice of words. This seems more like an argument against the hypocrisy of carbon credits, using religion as a comparison.
It actually works quite well.
In Canada there's a tax on the gas (the goverment gets some of it and the companies keep some of it)
If I was sure the goverment portion went to the societal infrastucture it wouldn't bother me.
In Canada we have a history of taking money from one thing (Gas, Cigarettes, Booze and unemployment insurance surpluses ) and throwing the money elsewhere else(Multiculturalism, Quebec, foreign aid (to China yet, the guys that bailed the states out)or Opera and Ballet (whom can't support themselves)
Just saying, if we used the sin tax for Gas on cleaning up the industry and enforcing effeciency. if we used the tax on cigarettes and booze for resulting deseases or enforcing a less harmful product,,,maybe this shit would be more under control. Like in Europe.

And there's no such thing as a way to lower a Hummers ridiculously ineffiecent fuel usage beside sticking a huge carbon filter on it. Which will plug and fail, back pressure up the Wazoo as it were.
If such a thing existed (that you didn't have to change weekly and was hard on the engine) it'd soon be required
