[letter sent to Representative Frank D. Lucas (R-OK 3rd)]
I was INFURIATED when I could not find "IN GOD WE TRUST" ON THE COIN. Who decides what goes on the new money??? I believe everyone in Congress should have a say!! This is just one more way our rights are being taken away! Maybe no one else has seen the new dollars yet. What can we do?? This is as important as the war in Iraq as it is about taking away our religion!! When are we going to stand up and resist these kinds of things?

What other ways are your rights being taken away? In fact, how is this taking your rights away? Does it say somewhere in the Bible that every Christian must see "In God We Trust" when he looks at a coin, or he's going to Hell?
In God We Trust (as well as E Pluribus Unum) is on the new dollar coins. It's just on the rim where it's somewhat hard to notice. That besides, how does omitting that phrase from currency take away your religion? Or does your church require you to present god-fearing money at the door to get in?
And one more thing- How come no one has thrown a fit about being unable to find the E Pluribus Unum phrase?
You'd think fundies would not want "in God we trust" on money. Doesn't it trivialize the name of God to have it on something used to satisfy materialism, pay for illegal transactions, and pay for stuff they disagree with on a daily basis?
In God We Trust, E Pluribus Unum, and the year were moved to the edge so that the artist could draw a more detailed picture without having an absurdly large coin (a la the Ike silver dollar).
Also, the lack of four words on a coin is not even close to being as important as a war.
Ugh. I tried to explain this on T4C and they trolled me. *sigh*
Do the coins come with a sander to smooth them out?
That saying shouldn't even be there, it's unconstitutional. And it's only been there for a part of the history of American money, showing that it wasn't intended to be there by the founding fathers.
Now take a deep breath and release your bowels.
The insertion of "in God we trust" was a decision taken in the fifties by the same congress that now rejects it. And they do have a say, only that the final consensual decision have been that. Which right have they taken from you?, the right to impose your beliefs into others or to make your vote count like 2/3 of the congress because you´re a Christian or more American than the others?.
Hi Yall, my name is Kingfisher! I'm really stupid and I have the right to vote! And we wonder why an incompetent, war-profiteer, and proven-liar gets re-elected President?
A few months ago, someone paid me with a 1940's-series $10 bill that had somehow survived 70 years of circulation in realatively decent shape. I checked the back, and sure enough, no "In God We Trust". I traded it out of the register and kept it, since I thought it was neat.
Now you know why trying to remove "in dog we trust" from our money will likely cause a civil war. That phrase is EXTREMELY important to the average fundy out there. In fact, more times than not, I have been told that the phrase on the money is proff that DOG exists. Also, the fact that they put it on the edge of the coin has also drawn GREAT dismay.. their god must be bold and the first thing you see.
The war in Iraq is rather more about taking away THEIR religion.
So, if it doesn't say "In God We Trust" on the money, you forget to do so, or what? What a weak religious conviction you must have.
We have "For Sweden in the time", verbatim, on our 1 krona coin. Our king's motto, whatever he means with it. We are still mostly Christian, regardless of words on coins, which nobody reads anyway.
"What can we do??"
You can shut the fuck up about it and stop trying to convert everyone on the planet to your crazy religious belief system.
Ever heard of the separation of church and state? Silly me, I guess I expected our fucking representatives to have read the constitution.
You know, I've read the bible several times. I recall Jesus talking about caring for the poor and neglected. I recall him saying that those who lived by the sword would die by the sword. I also recall him telling a parable or two about storing up earthly treasures being a ticket to damnation. However I don't recall ONE FREAKING PASSAGE WHERE JESUS SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT AMERICAN CURRENCY BEING USED TO PRAISE GOD!
You want to do something for Jesus? The do something that you mindless amen-sayers would otherwise find unthinkable. Help feed the homeless. Take a stand for social justice. Campaign for peace. In other words, instead whining about how your savior isn't getting the press you think he deserves, try following his teachings!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
