Quote# 2357

You claim the evolutionary process produces both simplicity and its opposite, complexity. That’s having your cake and eating it too. It’d be like some disingenuous Christians who claim that even when God does bad things those actions are really good because God did them. Just as good and evil become meaningless terms when evil can be good and good can be evil depending upon who commits them, so too does the evolutionary process become a non-process if we must believe that it can produce X and also produce the opposite of X.

Evolution doesn't produce simplicity.

I'm not certain evolution can't produce simplicity, but in any event, what's core to evolution is *survival*, by any means necessary. Therefore, if evolution "decides" to simplify in order to survive, there's no real problem. Other than that, this quote seems to me quite respectful. Let's not bash those who don't deserve it. Being wrong isn't the same as being wrong and an asshole.

Simplicity and complexity aren't opposites you muppet. They're just arbitrary words for different degrees of the same thing. Same as 'hot' and 'cold'.

The cake is a... oh never mind.

What's the problem with eating a cake that you have?

You know, I never understood that saying, "having your cake and eating it to". If you can only have one or the other, wouldn't you automatically choose to eat it rather than just let it sit there? And if you're eating it, don't you "have" it by definition?

Christians claim that shit (storms, Earthquakes, volcanos , forest fires)constantly, evolutionary science not only claims many failures and successes, it has documentation of both.

Again, no where near equal fields

And by the way, "having your cake and eating it too" is a cliche and like MOST cliches it doesn't make any sense when it's broke down. Like many, many Bible verses, and I'm not even referencing the clusterfuck that is Revelation or unlivable ridiculous abitrary rules of Leveticus.

Pink Jackboots

Actually I think the original saying was 'Eat your cake and have it too' But it got garbled somehow.

Christianity produces simpletons. Albert here is a prime example.

You claim that concrete produces both marbles and high-rises. That's having your cake and eating it too.

But- but- fundie Christians claim that the evil things that God supposedly did are really good because God did them, all the time!

Life started out simple and evolved into complexity, similar to how individuals start as one cell; the egg impregnated by the sperm, and develop into complex animals.

You mustn't believe anything, as it can all be observed both in nature and in laboratories.

Well, an ice cube is a quite simple form*, and yet the single ice crystals it is made of are mind boggling complex. Does that mean that water doesn't freeze?

*at least compared to an ice crystal.
