I agree God is love, but God is also wrath. The Bible says there are some people who are hated by God, and I believe it. Casting an unrepentant sinner into Hell is not loving. God will pour out His wrath upon them, forever and ever. There is nothing loving about that.

Brent, you never learn. If God hates, he ceases to be God. According to the Bible, he´s over human emotions.
There is absolutely nothing fundie about this. Why do I even bother trying to reason with you atheists? You're not getting it. This is straight from the Bible and is completely logical and line with the character of God as revealed in the Bible--therefore, there is reason for those of the Christian religion to believe this. AND YET--you seem to think that this is "one of those darn things those fundies say." It's like you're not even trying anymore... just enjoying masturbating yourselves on whatever "Christians" say, as though that always in itself is merit for ridicule.
Heh... Mr. Nameless-one, it is because it is (possibly) taken right from the Bible (a book written, when all is said and done, by men with their own agendas) and praised as truth that this is fundie. If you see nothing wrong with this, perhaps you get some *cough* pleasure out of imagining all your enemies burning for eternity. Just a reminder, that type of pleasure is a sin according to the same Bible you claim is the epitome of truth, so you'll be down there right along with everyone else. ;)
(And for the record many on here, including myself, aren't athiests, or even agnostic. Despite that, being called an "athiest" isn't an insult by any means to normal people. Have a nice day, sir.)
Who do y'all think the Anonymous Troll-Coward du jour is this time? Is it Bwent or Jehane? We know how the two of you get off on trawling this site...
And for the record, there are actually several Christians (myself included) on FSTDT, and we *still* think you're out of your minds.
This line of bullshit might work on a four-year-old, but reasonably intelligent adults might prefer a god who is actually wiser than Descartes, instead of some paranoid shithole who demands constant attention. My opinion is that the fundie's god should have listened to his momma more than he did.
The Walrus (#227824 ) on 4/18/2007 at 2:41:17 AM: "I don't think that there is anything obscenely wrong with what she said... it's the evangelical point of view. While I find many quotes on here hilarious and ignorant, some of you obviously have problems with Christianity in general, not just fundamentalism."
Skeptical (#228303 ) on 4/19/2007 at 1:59:05 PM: "What Walrus said. I really thought there was supposed to be a distinction between Christianity and fundamentalism here, but many hate the entire kit and caboodle, period."
This is my problem with this site and likely one you will never address. You are not making the distinction. You slam Christians without regard to what they believe at all. On this site, it no longer matters if it's "fundie" or not; or you've actually broadened "fundie" to include tenets of the Christian faith that have never been moved for 2,000 years, such as, oh I don't know, prayer? Or studying the Bible (I can't believe you accepted this one)? These aren't "fundie" things! These are what all Christians have been doing since they were first called Christians!

LadyBaird, you said: "If you see nothing wrong with this [believing the Bible is true], perhaps you get some *cough* pleasure out of imagining all your enemies burning for eternity." You forget this: If God doesn't take pleasure in the death of anyone (Eze. 18:32), why would I do differently? Just because I believe the Bible is true, do you think I am stupid enough to ignore what it says and derive pleasure from imagining people in hell? Do you not bother to recognize that smart people can believe the Bible is true, too? (At which you would probably just say, "Pity he's a Christian...")
mjonesQuaker, if you are convinced that fundies are out of their minds, then do something that will change it. Siding with people who hate theism (Laurel) is not the way to do it! As is shown above, you're not helping things by participating in this site. It is biased not against fundamentalism but against theism. Laurel entirely admits this: "Maybe we're sincere when we say we're atheists."

I'm a Christian. I'm not Brent or... whoever the other one is (Jehane?). I'm not a fundamentalist.
Now here's the thing: while I'm not surprised about it, I am sorely disappointed that atheists who respect humanity clearly enjoy dehumanizing Christians and insulting them. In other words, they are very, very "tooth-for-tooth, eye-for-eye" and are no better than the fundies they slander. If any showed grace, they would not be here actively participating in this drivel.
But the ones who call themselves Christians! Axver, for instance, who is a member of Christian Forums. Calling other Christians "stupid fucking twit" (#227197 ) and feeling entirely justified doing so!
No, I'm not talking about other fundamentalists. I am less graceful towards folks like the Phelps family of Westboro. I'm talking about other Christians--that girl was simply, at the moment, restating a core tenet of Christianity: evangelism, which has been happening since its inception!
...please, atheists. You value reason, so please be reasonable. I know that an anonymous committed Christian asking anonymous committed atheists to stop flaming Christians on the Internet is about as useless trying to swim across the Pacific Ocean... but come on. You have to see how this is not helping anyone.
If any human acted that way, we'd refer to them as a war criminal. Why exactly does God get a free pass? Why don't we, in fact, expect more from God than from humans?
I agree God is love
Then explain the Old Testament. Also the concept of 'Hell'.
"but God is also wrath."
Then he's not the 'God of love ', is he? Can't be both, Brent. Either he's the God as described by Unitarian Universalists as one who will allow anyone in Heaven, regardless of them being Christian or not , or he's more like Khorne in WH40K. Now what's it to be (check one):
[ ] The UU's God, in which case everything you say is a lie , and we Atheists don't need to listen to you fundies (thus you & your ilk are fucked; at least as far as your life now is concerned - no power over people, and all that jazz)
[ ] BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE! And yours will be joining everyone else's there.
Choose wisely.
This is what reinforces my disbelief in god. What would an omniscient/omnipotent entity do with anger? Such a human emotion.
Also, I find it odd that god's will always seem to go along with man's will.
Anon-e-moose
Either 'God is Love', or he's not . Make your fucking minds up, fundies.
...still, at least you lot admit, on the basis of your own logic, where Games Workshop got the inspiration for the Chaos God Khorne, for their Warhammer Fantasy and WH40K games.
'BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!'
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
