[In response to a woman upset about her father's death and worried about his eternal destination.]
You can be the best person in the world, but if you die without Christ, you'll end up in hell. And no amount of prayer from relatives, the church, etc is going to change that. Praying that the Lord give you comfort...

Then become a mormon because, in that sect of Christianity, family members, with the help of the church, can pray and get someone out of hell. There, problem solved.
Your problem is that you think that everybody who says lord lord is free to be a good person. In that case, don´t expect Christianism to be widespread, because you´re anihilating the very notion of good deed and sin.
The bible says that if you even think of doing wrong (that is, what it considers wrong), it's the same as actually doing it. As a re-hellious kid and teen, this became my excuse if you will, for doing wrong. If I'm going to get blamed and punished for something, I'm at least going to fucking have fun doing it, not just having a ten second daydream and finding yourself in hell.
This being said, I'm not terrible person, even at the worst I've done in my life. But the church teaches that Budda, Ghandi, Abrose Bierce, and half the Virginia shooting victims will be going to hell along with me, while Hitler, in theory, could've asked forgiveness when he was commiting suicide and gotten to go to heaven.
This has been reason #948 why christianity is not worth my time and its god is not worth my spit.
Tragic .
Not only that she lost her dad, not only that she is tormented by this belief that he's being eternally tortured, but that her 'buddy' on this site takes such an utterly insensitive stance.
I'd be crazy enough with worry and grief if a friend of mine was tortured for only a day, and this woman thinks her own father is being tormented for eternity. And yet she receives no compassion from this guy at all.
If this isn't a 'Feel that Christian love' candidate, I don't know what is. Or did we already give that one out?
Sigh... at least the others are caring for her and realizing it's a sad thing.
And yeah, praying? I can picture someone recommending that in the event of a real-life torture/murder/massacre situation: 'I realize you're upset that Usama ibn Ladin killed your husband with an anthrax letter, but you have to realize that he loves us, so maybe if you sent a respectful, loving, submissive letter to him apologizing for not understanding his master plan and asking him to forgive you your hatred, he'll explain it to you'. Utterly nauseating.
Well, aren't you a nasty human being.
We, as mortals, do NOT have a right to say who or who doesn't go to Hell. Personally, I do believe if a person is genuinely good, they will go to Heaven, even if they aren't Christian.
What's even sadder is that after many similar posts (but more subtle and couched in lollipops and sunshine), this lady basically just accepts that her father may very well be burning for all eternity, but you know, it's all in god's plan so why should it bother her? The whole thread was actually pretty disturbing...
Being perfectly ok with, and praising god, when you truly believe a beloved family member is being cruelly and unimaginably tortured for all eternity at the command of said god? This level of desensitization is just scary.
Also a main aspect of my eventual deconversion.
Sounds like god is an insecure little brat.
Worship me or I'll punish you even if you don't deserve it.
Could you imagine a heaven filled with only these assholes? Surely that would be hell, no?
In the extreme unlikely case should I encounter such a sociopathic and moronic god after my death, then I will join the ranks of Lucifer and the Fallen Angels with joy.
Because such a jealous, petty, unjust, malevolent bully must be battled and destroyed. Lucifer (who's existence is as improbable) is a shining light of goodness against such a malicious God.
Fortunately, the probability that such a god exists is very, very low.
...because you surely aren't going to extend any to a bereaved sister.
There are such things as white lies, living4JC, things you say to comfort others, things that are not lies per se.
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven."
- Matt 7:21
Even a casual reading of the gospels reveals that the will of the father that Jesus is speaking of involves giving up earthly attachments (especially wealth and prejudices) and taking care of those in need. Of course, the entire appeal of being a fundamentalist is being able to ignore all of that. Fundamentalism is grounded in the lazy, Pauline myth of "pledge allegiance to Jesus, then you can forget about him."
If you are truly living4JC, read the gospels and find out what it is he expects from you. Don't turn to Rapture Ready for help. They don't have a clue about the bible.
I mean, they actually believe in The Rapture.
Confused?
