Quote# 24485

Once again you misunderstand christianity. God gave us all free will for one purpose so that we could voluntarily love him. We were all born nonbelievers that is what makes are return to the father that much sweeter. God does not want to punish you he wants to love you but if you resist every attempt he makes to reach out to you then he has no choice. The bible is not without flaw but I believe that is so so that we don't complacently rely on it. The doubt created by the fallibility of the bible increases our faith.

If God wanted us solely to be doormats, he wouldn´t have given us free will, to begin with.

And the hallucinations one sees on LSD increases your grasp on reality.

That's some balloon animal reasoning right there.

I started out with a completely open heart. I was conservative and almost fundie until seventeen.

Then reality hit. If God really wanted me, he'd make himself known in better ways rather than constantly convince me he doesn't exist.

Free will is the constant fallback of the fundie.

...if you resist every attempt he makes to reach out to you then he has no choice.

How can an omnipotent being have no choice?

The bible is not without flaw...

Understatement of the Year Award!

...but I believe that is so so that we don't complacently rely on it.

So what should we rely on, our own judgement? Logic? Empirical facts? Blasphemer! Now you've really pissed HIM off.

The doubt created by the fallibility of the bible increases our faith.

In other words, the more wrongheaded something is the more reason there is to believe it. Congratulations, you may be \"saved\" yet.

Yeah, our faith in Bizarro World where, fallibility is infallibility, wrong is right, and cats and dogs shack up together.

Socialisation, or Indoctrination, if you'd like to use that word occurs from the social surroundings of any person. Organised religion is part of that; so whilst all people are born without religion; these notions are developed in them.
Just look at Santa.

This kind of reasoning gives me mental whiplash.

God gave us free will so we could voluntarily love him, but if we exercise our free will and don't love him, he has NO CHOICE but to send us to Hell? That makes his \"gift\" of free will completely fucking useless, doesn't it? \"Love me or I'll hurt you\" is the motto of a stalker and an abuser, not a supposedly higher deity.

The Bibble was designed to be fallible to increase our faith? Gawd revealed his holy message to humanity but inserted lots of mistakes and contradictions so we wouldn't rely on it? Then why give us his message in the first place?

TreeofSephri should get some kind of Mental Gymnastics Gold Medal Award for this.

\"God gave us all free will for one purpose so that we could voluntarily love him.\"

And, he threatens you with hell so that you'll be sure to voluntarily love him.

\"The doubt created by the fallibility of the bible increases our faith.\"

That's the stupidest thing I've read this week. Well, OK, in a day or two, but it's still really, really stupid. It's like saying, instead of putting up a \"bridge out\" sign, we put up a Burma Shave ad to increase your safety.

How about a Tom Hagen Award for this Consigliere? :) Then again, we'd be making him look bad. Tom, that is.

\"God does not want to punish you he wants to love you but if you resist every attempt he makes to reach out to you then he has no choice.\"

Yeah, right. An omnipotent being ALWAYS has a choice. Why does perfect justice involve eternal vengeance?

Even I wouldn't punish my worst enemy for all eternity.

Attempts such as what? Wow, you prayed and found your car keys. Impressive! Where were they, up your ass? You're an idiot.

Yes... he loves us so much, that if we don't love him back, he just has to send us to an eternity of torture.

If all that bullshit about, \"If you don't love him back he has no choice,\" were true, it would make a lot more sense that people who didn't love him back just didn't get to spend eternity with him, and instead spend it in some kind of limbo. Or, better yet, we don't get an eternity.

This is evidenced by the fact that God created Hell and Satan.

if you resist every attempt he makes to reach out to you then he has no choice.

Sure he has a choice. He's God, the Lord of the Universe, isn't he? Besides, if he really wanted to reach out to people, he'd appear on the Six O'Clock News and be done with it. How can he blame people for not believing in him when he's invisible?

What better love could you ask for than the love that tortures?

What better proof than absurdity?

The Bible is so crazy, it must be true - no one would seriously make shit like this up.

Using his reasoning, my lack of faith is actually the ultimate faith.
