(Pro-Life is a ridiculous name. What a low blow. Pro-Choice should be upgraded to 'Pro-Humanity'. "We care about ALL of humanity, you simply care about forcing the population to grow, regardless of whether those babies will be cared for or be able to live happy lives.")
Wow, killing babies. How humane.
And you don't know whether they'll have good lives or not. There are 2 million couples waiting to adopt.
And our planet is not over-populated, if you brought everyone to Texas, they could all have 1 acre of land.
Go pro-life!

I'm not going to go through a pregnancy for a couple I don't know. I feel for them, really, but I'm not putting my body through that just to make some strangers happy.
Overpopulation is not so much an issue of physical space that humans take up. Though, I seriously doubt all the "humans could fit in this certain piece of land" crap I keep hearing, because there are countries where there IS overcrowding and not enough individual space.
Anyway, overpopulation is an issue of RESOURCES. The planet cannot continue to support the way people are living forever, and the population just keeps growing. This is an issue, and abortion is one way of slowing down the population increase.
I think Texas has around two hundred million acres, which would not be enough to give every person in the US, let alone the world, their own acre.
LadyBaird: As someone who's worked with kids in the foster-care system, I can tell you that so many children are not adopted because 1) Many families wanting to adopt want an infant. A greater portion of infants in foster-care that come eligible for adoption are adopted versus the number of older children eligible for adoption.
Secondly, a good portion of children in foster care who are eliglble for adoption have either mental or physical disabilities. This can range from mild, like ADD or other behavior problems to profound mental retardation. Unfortunately, families looking to adopt often don't want problem kids. They want a perfect baby.
It saddens me every time I hear the "2 million couples, etc." argument. Yes, 2 million couples wait to adopt...2 million couples could adopt easier if they would adopt the children most in need.
/soapbox
I don't know where Texas comes into it, but I think if you divide the entire land area of the planet(1.5x10^9km^2) by the current total planetary population (about 6.5x10^9), you get something like five acres each. Of course, that's including all the uninhabitable stuff like deserts, jungles, barren rocky wastelands, that radioactive mess around Chernobyl, frozen tundra, volcanic areas, earthquake zones, etc.
If someone can produce an estimate based on the available useful, livable land area, I'd be most interested in the result.
I don't know who´s more ridiculous of the two. This guy ignores that many couples waiting to adopt are not precisely saints. Moreover, that they are waiting to adopt white, healthy and cute babies, not sick, minority and ugly ones. Problem with overpopulation is not just space, BUT ALSO RESOURCES. And the notion of space is not limited to the physical one. Living in a place where certain rules apply and needs some bureaucracy implies that the world is UNEQUALLY DISTRIBUTED. What if the land turns out to be a dessert or an inhabitable place?.
2'd. The truth is, it's not so much population as it is piss-poor distribution of resources by their stewards. The extra squeebounce is for using a power phrase (baby-killing) in order to serve one's point, which is VERY fundamental to the fundie stereotype
First: you couldn't fit a tenth of the earth's population in Texas, even shoulder-to-shoulder. Hell, China couldn't hold the entire human population. You also have no concept of "available resources."
Furthermore, it's not "killing babies." I'm sure you believe that a blastocyst or fetus is just a really tiny, fully-developed infant, but you're wrong.
You know, some women get abortions because pregnancy is too dangerous to carry out.
Also, of those supposed 2 million potential adoptive parents, most only want perfect Caucasian children, not minorities or children with disabilities.
Do you have any idea how many children remain in foster care, never being adopted purely because of their genetics?
Next time you post on the subject, maybe you should do some research instead of repeating what your fundie friends tell you.
Guess what shit hole. An average person needs about 5 acres of land. And then there's the other animals and plants and stuff that live here too. And then there's housing, growing food, resources. How can you not think about this stuff?
Everyone has pretty much nailed this post to the wall, so I'll just add that it is the fucking hypocrisy of the anti-abortion movement that makes me so furious. I can respect people who protest abortion because of sincere beliefs, but they lose all my respect with these constant fucking lies .
I will support the anti-abortion movement when every male over the age of 15 in this country gets a vasectomy. They can store their sperm in sperm banks till they need it. That way no woman can get pregnant by force or accident.
You frown at killing a clump of cells, but probably think nothing of gunning down a fully grown adult for any religious/political reason. The hypocrisy is strong with this one.
Funnily enough, this planet DOES have the resources to sustain the population as it is, but most of the resources go to the countries that can afford it most, and so the less fortunate go without.
xMinionX: "Pro-life does not equal fundie. This really shouldn't be here. Yeah, he's not too bright, but there's far worse here."
No, pro-lie doesn't *equal* fundie, but they tend to go hand in hand, and I think the misogyny of pro-liars is plenty appropriate for this site.
Let's see...
A: Kill a baby.
oooor...
B: Force a raped, homeless girl to go into a potentially dangerous labor, and then care for another being when she is starving and homeless herself. Said being will inevitably grow up malnourished and sickly, or moving from shelter to shelter. Or, alternately, never know his true mother (and vice-versa), moving from foster home to foster home.
...yeah, euthanasia is looking surprisingly humane.
Granted, I'm gunning for the worst possible scenario, but it's not like anyone else would do any different.
Being pregnant for nine months does not equal twenty minutes of surgery, ergo adoption is NOT an "alternative to abortion." I'm adopted. I've spent my entire life writing UNKNOWN on medical history forms, and figuring I must have done something horrible for my own mother to discard me, and feeling like a second class citizen because I have no right to my own identity. You don't know what you're talking about, and you need to shut up.

I think Texas has around two hundred million acres, which would not be enough to give every person in the US, let alone the world, their own acre.
no, see there are only 200 million people on the planet by masumi5's logic, see they're not counting non-american, non-white, non-heterosexual, non-republican, non-their particular denomination of christian people, you know THEY don't count as humnan, just wipe those off the face of the earth and everyone left can have an acre of land in texas! easy!
I'm ignoring all the crap about Texas and the 2 million couples waiting to adopt in the hopes that masumi will answer me this question:
If you think killing babies is 'inhumane'(and to be honest, I'm against 3rd trimester abortions), what would you say if there was actual PROOF that the birthing process would kill mom or baby? Let 'em both die? Well mommy's still going to heaven, assuming she's Wendy WASP from Witchita, but baby....he's off to hell! Actually, even if aborted he's off to hell in Cloud Cuckooland but that's besides the point
@ Laurel
If you ever read this, I want you to know that my heart goes out to you. I have seen my own daughters, who are all adopted, struggle with the issues you described. You seem to have a lot of questions that need answering; valid questions that may never be answered.
While there may not be answers, there is a response to your questions. The response is that, whatever the past was, you are alive right now, and being alive is a wonderful thing. You have the potential to make something good out of the tragedies of the past. Your life is valuable, and every day you live is a testimony to your value.
Best wishes to you.
I'd rather not have to live in Texas, thank you very much.
Seriously, though, must we repeat for the millionth time that abortion is not about killing babies? That's called infanticide, and you bet your fat ass that that IS a crime. In civilised societies, anyway.
No one is killing babies. You are an idiot.
And while there are 2 million couples waiting to adopt, that doesn't seem to do anything about the millions of children who are either abused by their parents, or are starving to death.
Your thing about Texas is incorrect. As it has already been pointed out, Texas does not have 6 billion acres . To fit everyone in the world into Texas, you would need to squeeze everyone in with a population density equal to New York City.
Also, you have to keep in mind that not everyone lives in a dense city; a lot of people own quite a bit of land out in the country. This reduces the amount of land that can be used for agriculture and stuff. While there is currently enough food for everyone in the world to eat plenty, many people in places like Africa and North Korea simply don't have access to it; another thing to note is that food isn't the only necessity . There are still issues like sanitation and diseases, most of which plague the most densely populated areas in the world. Another thing you'll notice is that these very same densely populated areas are very poor . Hence, they couldn't afford birth control/abortion, but they still can't afford to take care of their children, nor can they afford health care and sanitation-related stuff like toilets and good sewage treatment systems.
Calling yourselves "pro-life" is hypocrisy. You're about as pro-life as I'm a Martian. You only care about power, power, power! One hundred bucks says you're in favour of the death penalty and are pro-war and think a raped woman should be forced to give birth.
"if you brought everyone to Texas, they could all have 1 acre of land."
Where they would immediately starve to death unless everyone started farming, stalling scientific progress and sending us back to the Dark Ages, but you probably want that, so I guess that's okay with you.
Confused?
