No one is forced to have an illegal abortion. That is a choice that you make. Making abortion illegal will not force women to have an illegal abortion. They will choose to break the law and have one.
Should we have pity on the rapist who feels he forced to commit rape because it is illegal? Should we have pity on the murderer who feels he is forced to murder simply because the act of murder is illegal? Should we have pity on the arsonist who thinks he is forced to commit arson just because it is illegal? If abortion is made illegal and women Choose to have an illegal abortion it isn't because they were forced to have an illegal abortion it will because they chose to have an illegal abortion. And using the old excuse such as, “We have 1.2 million illegal abortions every year and that should be a good excuse to make it legal makes as much sense as a rapist saying, “We have 1.2 million illegal rapes a year. So we should make it legal.”

The more I hear of the drivel from your mind, sir, the more of a heartless bastard I think you are. Do you REALLY think a rapist or murderer commit the crimes because they *know* they're illegal? They have ulterior motives for the acts, just as women would if abortion was illegal. With the small exception that an abortion, if committed illegally in a back-alley somewhere, has a high chance of ending in the death of the mother; I doubt you care about that though, sir.
Having an abortion is *nothing* like being raped. Abortions have good reasons for being done, and harm no one if done right ; I assure you, an illegal abortion would NOT be done right in most cases.
In conclusion: you, sir, are an utterly inconsiderate, heartless bastard of a mangy cur, and I sincerely hope no women degrades herself enough to mate with you. Really.
They abort because they think that raising a child will be difficult and dangerous at that moment. They don´t go on purpose to an alley to see what happens. Besides, there is something called motivation to commit a crime, or to do something for that matter. They don´t base their choice in their degree of illegality.
Ratigan, I am a peaceful person, but you are seriously aggravating my "choke-a-bastard" reflex.
Perhaps, when and if you ever know anything about pregnancy and abortion, you will be qualified to have an opinion on the matter. Until then, please stop spewing sewage from your noise-hole.
Making it illegal will not make force people to have an abortion anyway. It essentially attempts to do the opposite. Fail. And furthermore, the fact that ~ is illegal would not lure people to the act on its own, unless the people are fools.
*****'d
Fuck him.
It might be intellectually honest, though. If having an abortion is equivalent to murder, then who cares if the murderer also dies? The argument that grown women will die if abortion is made illegal only touches the inconsistent anti-choicers who do have some belief that a fetus isn't quite human, that it's a miscarriage rather than a dead child, that it'd be okay to get an abortion if you were going to go blind in childbirth even though a life should be worth someone else's sight by their philosophy, and so on. But it is really about hating women, and this comment shows wonderfully what pity he has for grown women with lives and personalities.
LadyBird I completely agree that the premise that people commit acts *because* they are illegal is absolutely ridiculous. However, immediately following Roe v Wade in the US deaths from abortion increased. Possibly because the number of abortions increased, I do not know why. Just a stat. Also, back-alley abortions were generally performed by nurses or doctors; the term back-alley was used because women entered through the back entrance to avoid detection.
Some CDC stats: http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss5103a1.htm
Not that it matters but I am a woman and I have a uterus, have had an abortion and have given birth. I don't know why that all factors in but alena said it did ;)

LadyBaird - go to his site. The guy is gay. Not only does he have no business in any womwn's womb, he doesn't want to be in any woman's womb.
I think you missed the point completely.
Making abortion illegal would cause a RISE in illegal, UNSAFE abortions, therefore cause more WOMEN (not just your precious fetuses) to die.
Making murder or rape illegal doesn't cause more murder, rapes or death.
Yes, and if you make buying food illegal, then only those who choose to break the law will buy food.
If you're so damned law-abiding, then I'd actually support the temporary imposition of such a thing to get rid of the idiots like you.
Yeah, because those situations are even remotely comparable.
I thought the point was that legislating forced birth will NOT deter women faced with unwanted pregnancies, and the number of abortions - as in the deaths of fetuses - WON'T FALL. They will likely even rise.
And, oh yeah, there will suddenly be a huge problem of women dying or being hospitalised from complications thanks to shitty backyard abortions. but I suspect the "pro-life" movement is not really about the BAYBEEZ at heart, but about controlling and punishing women for sex, so maybe these nasty consequences of criminalising abortion aren't inconsistent with their ideology.
otherwise, for example, why not follow the lead of a country with low abortion rates, like Holland, which has roughly 1/3 the US's abortion rate despite legalising abortion on demand from conception until viability.
Want to save TWO THIRDS the 'babies' currently being 'murdered'? YEAH - wait, it means women aren't forced to give birth against their will? Sex ed that doesn't demonise sex and contraception and promote abstinence until marriage as the only option? No thanks, then. Sure, we're all about the 'babies' and all, but their lives are worth keeping people sexually ignorant, and it's only a coincidence and not a concern that this overwhelmingly negatively affects women and girls. And, oh yeah, the actual babies once they're born.
/rant.
Praetyre, I guess you think that it's an unborn "baby" in the womb with the Constitutional rights of an ACTUAL person, right? Now who's being logically incorrect? I assume a woman gives up her rights in order to preserve a cluster of cells without brainwaves, right?
I'll say it again: When anyone, based solely upon his/er religious beliefs, expects to exert control over what happens inside my body, that is fundy.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
