[On approval of the Wiccan symbol to be placed on Wiccan soldiers' gravestones.]
I think it is incredibly sad that it has come to this in a nation that was originally founded upon Christian principles. We allow a satanic symbol in a national cemetary that honors our war heroes. That is so incredibly sad and disgusting it breaks my heart.
People put this new American ideal of tolerance (even when it comes to satanic religions) above God's law and God's commands. Let me tell you, it is far more important from an eternal perspective to be a good Christian than a good American. At one time I believe these two things were synonymous but now I believe they are at odds.
What saddens me the most, beyond measure, is that there is such widespread acceptance on a Christian message board of this idea of allowing wiccans to place their symbol in a national cemetary. This is surely a sign we are getting close to the end. The cross is the only symbol that should be allowed in a U.S. national cemetary, anyone who wants something else (especially something satanic) should be buried elsewhere.

I suggest you say that to a few Jewish Marines. They will be glad to show you the errors in your thought.

To be a good Christian means to be a tolerant person, not to judge people or religions(why is it more "satanic" that one that says that eating lobster is an abomination?), and more importantly, to give thanks to a guy who has defended the right to say this nonsense, because, you know, applying your standards, YOU, good-for-nothing,are the one to be buried elsewhere. Thanks for nohthing.
Really?
Is a wiccan really a satanic symbol, or is it a symbolic expression of somebody else's faith?
What makes your symbol of faith right and somebody else's wrong. You must answer this challange without using the words "Bible", "God", or "Hell"
What's that, you can't see somebody else's perspective on things? Where did you learn that?
"The cross is the only symbol that should be allowed in a U.S. national cemetary, anyone who wants something else (especially something satanic) should be buried elsewhere."
So, if you're Jewish, or Muslim, or Baha'i, or Wiccan, or pagan, or an atheist, and you gave your life for your country -- you can just have someone exhume your remains and put them in a regular cemetery! U.S. National Cemeteries are for Christians only ! image
Personally, I'd be offended if someone put a cross on my gravestone.
I agree, though. The placement of the Wiccan symbol -- or any religious symbol -- on a gravestone should never have been officially approved. You know why? Because it shouldn't have had to be officially approved at all. It should have been a given. If you give your life for your country, you can put whatever the fuck you want on your own damned gravestone.
That said, I am happy they're allowing it. I'm just fucking pissed that at one point, they didn't.
You and your bigotry dishonor the burial ground of our war heroes. They didn't die for just your fundie prejudiced ass masquerading as a Christian. They were all kinds of Americans and they died for all kinds Americans, whether Christian, Jew, Muslim or Atheist or Wiccan. I think if you can't share that ground willingly with all the different kinds that make up our country, then you need to find a graveyard that caters to your kind. Ask Phelps if he has any room at Roseboro Baptist for a kindred soul.

Spot all the things wrong with that sentence. What in the heck has eating lobster to do with Wicca vs Christianity? Nothing? As far as "judging religions" - I'm kind of speechless. If you're all going to mock Christianity (which is all fine and good) at least understand it first. Not that most of the Christians quoted here understand it either ;)
This topic was covered recently, Sam. It so happens there are 39 symbols approved for use on government headstones and markers. They include Buddhist, Judaic, Mormon, Native American Church of North America, Bahai, Atheist, Muslim, Hindu, Konko-Kyo Faith, Tenrikyo Church, Seicho-NO-IE,Church of World Messianity, United Church of Religious Science, Eckankar,Humanist, Sikh, Wicca and Christian Science. How do ya like them apples?
Oh, and the United States was not founded on Christian principles. It was founded on Secular Humanist principles.
The Wiccan symbol, shock and horror, is a Pentacle. Which is why the fundies are up in arms about it, even though they frequently use it themselves (on their Christmas trees, among other things).
Tzelemel:
It's a five-pointed star, often within a circle.
It represents the 4 elements (earth, air, water, fire) and a fifth, often denoted as Spirit or Life.
The idea that it is a Satanic symbol is ridiculous and ignorant.
"Satanic symbol?" To be a Satanist is to be an inverted Christian. A sincere Wiccan isn't ANY kind of Christian. As for "The cross is the only symbol that should be allowed in a U. S. national cemetary", what part of "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.." do you fail to grasp?
You mean we should segregate graveyards?
So if I had served and died, I couldn't be buried near those who served with me because I was followed the Celestial Teapot?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
