[More on the Wiccan symbol now allowed on soldiers' headstones.]
The couple of times I've visited national cemetaries, I personally found it extremely comforting to see the symbol of the cross, a symbol of salvation and love and victory, in such a place. I know not everyone shares my view, but I think it would've taken away from it immensely to see a satanic symbol that represents death and defeat and suffering on such hallowed ground. I have the priviledge of having the choice of being buried in a national cemetary or my family's cemetary when I die and the thought of my family have to see a satanic symbol on the headstone next to mine for years and years to come makes me much more inclined to want to be buried in my family's cemetary.

You know what? Fuck you. It's not YOUR grave that the symbol would be on, and if you can't stand the thought that other people in the military can finally get their own religion recognized, then you don't deserve to be buried there.
Then be buried in your family's cemetery. You have a right to practice your religion among consenting adults in your family's cemetery. But a national cemetery is just that -- a national cemetery -- and you have no right for big government to grant any special privileges to your faith. Christians deserve equal rights, not special rights.
"...I personally found it extremely comforting to see the symbol of the cross, a symbol of salvation and love and victory..."
Funny, I thought the cross was a perfect symbol of torture, public execution, and excruciating death. Frankly, the use of the cross baffles me still. Serioulsy, what was so wrong with the fish? Less people having to be nailed to trees were involved.
Wicca is NOT Satanic, I'm not Wiccan, but I know for a fact that it isn't Satanic. It's a nature religion, to celebrate life and natural cycles. Nothing Satanic at all. Seriously, get over it. People should have religious symbol they want on their gravestones.
Why so many people confuse Wicca with Satan worship or Satanism is beyond me. Then again, to a Fundie, any religion or set of beliefs that doesn't mirror theirs exactly is "Satanic".
Reading through this thread, it's nice to see some of the Rapture Ready members say things like this:

What I find incredibly sad is the fact that an American will denigrate fallen service members by comparing them to the vilest entity known (Satan) just because they follow a different religion. Might I suggest that you have the guts to tell the family of these dead wiccans what you posted anonymously on this board?

Your words truly disgust me. American service men and women come from every walk of life, yet you don't even have the common decency to accord them something as simple as the headstone of their choice.
Please sleep peacefully, these same people will still be fighting and dying for your prejudices.
Hey, intolerant fuckwit, the cross is a symbol of execution. Very very nasty execution. Death, defeat, and suffering are what crucifixion is all about. You lose.
It's not Satanic, and you don't have to look at it. The cross on your gravestone will be enough for you and your family. If they are offended by other people taking comfort by seeing the symbol of their faith, maybe they should have their triggers checked.
Holy shit, it's a freaking pentacle, ain't it? If you don't want it, don't put it on your headstone. Simple as that.
The right of a Christian not to see something he doesn't approve of trumps the right of someone else to have his own choice of symbol on his grave? Typical.
Look, fuckwit, that person was willing to die to help preserve your freedom to call him names. That fact should make you cringe in shame.

Are you saying, then, that the crosses on gravestones are put there so people who are still alive can look at them and feel good?
I suppose I agree - religion's biggest hook for followers has always been promising a way to make death seem less horrible to those who can't deal with it at face value.
I'm a wiccan and I'm not surprised to hear people confuse my religion with satanism! What surprises me is the fact that there are people out there, not willing to honor the brave "Wiccan Warriors" by displaying our religious symbols on a grave stone! These men and women were fighting side by side with Christians, Muslims, Hebrews for your right of running your mouth, for your freedom to worship whomever you want to ... I strongly believe that if they can fight next to each other, they can be burried next to each other peacefully and nobody has the right to disgrace their resting places or their religion!
Until you understand Christians are not superior, no more christmas tree and easter eggs for you! :p
rant end! :o
So what you're essentially saying is that you don't want to be burried anywhere near non-Christians, who voluntarily went to war, and died for your country.
Wow. Fuck off you brain dead puss on a snail's ass.

I am honestly glad that you are able to find cmfort in such a place.

For the Wiccans this is not a Satanic symbol, but a symbol of theirs that got corrupted to mean Satanism. Wiccans celebrate nature and the cycle of life. For them, this is a postive symbol. Just as you have a right to be buried under a cross, so they have the right to be buried underneath a Wiccan symbol.
As for your family? Well, I just hope that you somehow find out that it's not Satanic to Wiccans and that you tell them that.
I think it would've taken away from it immensely to see a satanic symbol that represents death and defeat and suffering on such hallowed ground.
Odd, I thought a pentagram was suppose to represent fertility (although that would make putting it on a gravestone somewhat ironic, as the dead aren't all that fertile anymore).
Except, you know, it's a friggin' geometric symbol that can't hurt anyone! From what I understand, it represent quite a few things, none of them evil. It seems like it would be older than the Christian notion of Satan anyway.
Good! Wiccan soldiers have the right to display their faith on their tombstone AND they don't have to be buried next to a pig who doesn't honor the sacrafices made by soldiers. It's a win-win scenario. I fail to see the downside.
On the flip side, anybody else see the irony in him claiming the Pentacle (the symbol of unity in the 5 Elements) is a symbol of "death and defeat" while applauding the appearance of crosses in a cemetary? The cross, of course, being the symbol of the torture, humilation, death and defeat of Jesus?
What I want to know is while all of these "Christians" bitch and whine about not wanting to be buried next to Wiccans, why isn't anybody thinking of the Wiccans who don't want to be buried next to Christians like this guy?
Wow, another fundie who understands neither his own religion or his own government.
The whole point of Jebus dying on the cross was that he experienced death, defeat and suffering, like a real human being. The cross is not a happy symbol: it represents the agony Jebus went through in your stead.
The U.S. government is required by law to honor the religion of fallen soldiers, and place their chosen symbol on their headstones. Freedom of religion is one of our founding principles, not "Jebus Is Number One!!!111!!!"
Seriously, crawl away in shame.
Again, a review:
--------------------
Wicca is not Satanism, or even remotely Satanic.
Wiccans revere life and nature, not death. Claiming otherwise is dishonest.
A pentacle is as much a 'Satanic' symbol as a cross, since the inverted forms of both are used to represent Satanism.
The only Satanists that actually worship Satan are in the movies.
The US was not based on Christianity.
The Christian cross is a symbol of Christ's suffering and death. The Wiccan pentacle is a symbol for the elements of nature.
Every US soldier has a right to be buried in a national cemetary, regardless of religion.
-------------------------
Study these carefully. There may be a pop quiz.
"Odd, I thought a pentagram was suppose to represent fertility (although that would make putting it on a gravestone somewhat ironic, as the dead aren't all that fertile anymore)."
It is also a symbol of rebirth, and as such, is rather fitting for a grave stone, as it says that although the person died they haven't ended there (where you think thats true or not is a different point entirely).
And as Terry Jones (from Monty Python) says: "Any religion that takes a for of agonizing toucher as its symbol has got to be screwed up."
Personally, I'm of the opinion that if someone went to war, and dies for his country, regardless of whether I agree with the war itself, or not, if he wants a statue of three hookers going down on each other, he has earned it.
So shaddap, and sit down.
<<Any religion that takes a form of agonizing torture as its symbol has got to be screwed up.>>
Reminds me of what George Carlin once said: "If Jesus had lived in the 19th century, would we have little electric-chair pendants around our necks?"
And taking that feeling of yours, we apply the Empathetic Principle to a dead soldier and his/her family who has to deal with a grave that doesn't have the symbol of their religion -- worse yet, it has the symbol of someone else's.
Can you see now?
Two bits of useless information:
1. The pentacle is also the symbol of St. Anne, and was carried on his shield by Sir Gawain in the Arthurian mythos. That's pretty Christian, I would think.
2. Satanists use the upside-down pentacle because traditional Satanism is simply Catholicism turned inside-out. Thus, you have the Black Mass, the upside-down cross, the upside-down pentacle (remember St. Anne?), the woman's body as the altar (all women bear the blame for the Fall), etc., etc.
So the pentacle is actually a symbol of God, or the Satanists wouldn't turn it upside-down and use it.
Not that Rapture Ready would care ...
Just because you say it's Satanic, doesn't mean it actually is. Your a retard and you've effectively slapped the dead soliders who gave their lives for this country so you could be free to speak about taking away the rights of others because it doesn't mesh with your scary bedtime story. Please go play hide and go fuck yourself.
Confused?
