The fact that you are an agnostic (as I am) should not prevent you from believing that Christianity is superior to other religions. Such a position can easily be argued from the facts, for example, that Christianity was deeply involved in the rise of empirical and formal science. There's plenty of research on that. The historian Philippe Nemo has recently argued that some of what we strongly value in the West, such as democracy, is ultimately owed to late Mediaeval Catholicism. Superiority of religion should not of course be confused with superiority of devotees: the best behaved group historically seems to be Jews (compared to Moslems and Christians).
Christianity is of course a universal missionary monotheism. It is because of an enduring yet adapting Christianity that we have any civilisation at all on this planet. Out of all the thousands of religions and cults that have existed, one had to be better than any of the others. Christianity came first by many leagues. If there are evolutionary principles underpinning human society and its competitive religions then the fact of mighty Christianity is the best argument for evolution ever.

Oh, gods, so many things wrong with this:
-The Arabic people were involved in the rise of formal science and mathematics. The Christian Church tried to destroy such knowledge for centuries. -Democracy is not owed to late Medieval Catholicism; it has its roots in Ancient Rome. -If there absolutely MUST be superiority of religion, then it should go to the oldest, and still being widely practiced today. I believe that would go to the Hindus, but I could be completely wrong about that. ^_^" -Christianity is not universal, nor is it (according to most fundies on here) missionary. -Again, according to most fundies, Christianity is not adapting at all. -Civilization and religions of all sorts existed FAR before any shred of Christianity came about. That being said, please be a troll or Poe.... please?

There have been quite a few civilizations that flourished without Christianity: just a few examples being in Greece, Rome, Egypt, Asia, and Central and South America. I would like to talk history and democracy with John Snowden. More specifically, participatory democracy (an even more liberal form than representative democracy). Wikipedia defines it thusly: Participatory democracy is a process emphasizing the broad involvement of constituents in the direction and operation of political systems. While etymological roots imply that any democracy would rely on the participation of its citizens (the Greek demos and kratos combine to suggest that "the people rule"), traditional representative democracies tend to limit citizen participation to voting, leaving actual governance to politicians. Participatory democracy strives to create opportunities for all members of a political group to make meaningful contributions to decision-making, and seeks to broaden the range of people who have access to such opportunities. Now for the history part. The oldest running participatory democracy in the world belongs too... The Six Nations people, otherwise known as the Iroquois Native Americans. That's right, people without Christianity. They have goverened themselves this way for nearly a millenium. The Iroquois government (among other things of course) was an inspiration to the Founding Fathers when forming the government of the United States. Simply put, giving Christianity credit for the existance of democracy is flat out lying. (Likewise for claiming it is a superior religion. Since all religions essentially fill the same niche in human society, I'm guessing the only way to decide one is "better" is by its fruits; i.e. its effect on the world and humanity. In that case, Christianity is likely one of the absolute worst. And I can admit that as a Christian myself.

It arose with the Greeks, Persians, Egyptians, Babylonians and was stamped hard on it's neck to the ground by fucking Christianity. Stop pretending the dark ages aren't Christian supression of available knowledge for sake of rule, it was, and still wants this. FUCK RIGHT OFF.

The ONLY reason some small fragments of knowledge come through Christianity is the Catholic (now all Christianity) desire to control written language, the calenders, the historical records and politics. All of which they fucking corrupted to their own propagandic mythical devices.

I'm not playing Christians. ESTABLISHED, DOCUMENTED and PROVEN history shows this beyond spades. And this is what we need shown to the children in our schools. The REAL HISTORY of religion instead of this whitewashing of the atrocities in Europe and the Americas, this full on bullshit that the Christian church has always force fed the public, that they came from a caring, loving free place.

All religions are dictatorships waiting for their day.

I posted under that name at that now defunct message board during that year. That post in my name is not mine but a misleading grouping of sentences taken from other posts plus a few fabrications. There were a number of fake posts in my name in those days. The author was a mischievous religious poster who seemed to delight in misrepresenting my views. In particular I do not believe that democracy grew out of late Mediaeval Catholicism. I did however mention a recent publication that curiously argued that case.

Yes, I am an agnostic and no I'm not a Fundy Christian. But I would happily defend Christians against the malicious hate speech directed at them by the atheist riff raff that infest the Internet. Atheism is on the rise in the West. Some atheists have class, like Gordon Stein or Michael Martin, but as atheists increase their numbers the numbers of low brow atheist trash increase. One of my motives for posting at the No Answers in Genesis Message Board was to provoke the atheist trash there to reveal their true bigoted selves. The results were revealing.
